Agreed. The film is basically a rather standard crime film but Craig is excellent in the role.
how is it rather standard? I think it is superb and way above the average British crime thriller...nows there is alot of crap in that category lets be honest. Relatively speaking it does stand out..even if its just the soundtrack
i appreciate this is a rather subjective argument howveer but I thought you might have some insight cos most people seem to love it

Saw it first time back in October and loved it. Coincidentally, saw it again last night out of my desperate need to see Craig in a Bond-like role.

1st. i,m british! at least as much as the queen.(tho she has a whiff of berlin about her imho )
2nd. i hate british films! why? there,s basically three types.
type ONE hopeless romcoms about mismatched middleclass professionals falling in love/getting married/having, trying to have, and, or raising a baby. none of witch are rom or com.
type TWO "it,s tough up north/east and aren,t the working classes jolly plucky" commedies. patronising!!!
type THREE the most deadly and insiduous! costume movies! need i say more?
3rd. saw layer cake last week and i think it is probably the best britflic since get carter.
it,s stylish, tense, has a great cast and soundtrack, and is exremely cool.
could have done without that skinny girl jude law was seeing. but nothings perfect. top work from all involved

Craig really carried the film well. The scenes where he was wearing the white suit reminded me very much of Connery. Especially the way Craig moves.
