Should we rule out all actors over 35 now? Some possibilities (and trying to keep it to people who currently seem reasonably realistic candidates):
HENRY CAVILL, 22
HUGH DANCY, 30
JACK DAVENPORT, 32
IOAN GRUFFUDD, 31
STEPHEN MOYER, dunno his age - http://debrief.comma...showtopic=24621
ALEX O'LACHLAN - 28
KARL URBAN - 33
GORAN VISNJIC, 33
Any other suggestions?
No Loomis I wouldn't rule out those over 35 yet as 007 contenders. I asked Zencat about the Haggis quote AND the Daniel Craig screen test--he says Craig is still getting a screen test. The same source that originally told Cbn about the young Bond a long time ago also told them about Daniel Craig and they stand by the upcoming screen test for him. I still buy that--at the very least it can't be outright dismissed.
So 37 year old Craig is still getting tested--it is quite possible that the Haggis 28 early Bond is a flexible concept(a shorthand for a beginning Bond) which may have the age pushed up or down depending on which actor dazzles. Zencat suggests a Commander going into Mi6 can be aged somewhere between 28 to 38 quite plausibly--I concur.
If Craig is truly being tested soon and still, then indeed we can get an actor yet who passes as someone between 28 to 38 or so despite the specific age haggis states.

Could Craig or someone of a similar age still land the part? Possibly. Who knows? But the purpose of this thread is to explore credible candidates for a 28-year-old Bond.

Fair enough, Seannery, but this thread is based on the assumption that, when Haggis said 28, he meant 28, and not "anywhere between 25 and 40" or something like that. Clearly, someone like Craig would be totally unconvincing as a 28-year-old, although I'm not sure that the same is true of someone like Visnjic.

That's fine but you did ask if we should eliminate those above age 35.

He's 26.

Incidentally, why are people saying that Craig was Babs' favourite? I seem to recall hearing that Sony, not EON, had offered him the role, and that EON promptly put a stop to it. I think someone misread a quote or something, because I don't believe Craig has any support at EON. I think they're firmly committed to a reboot, and have been for a long time.

HEATH LEDGER IS THE ONE!
So Jake Gyllenhaal will be Felix and the two will be gay cowboys?

Broccoli and Craig are friends socially (e.g. here), so it makes sense. One source close to the movie reported that Broccoli liked "Layer Cake" star Daniel Craig, 37, but Wilson didn't.

Pussfeller, the Hollywood Reporter article of a couple weeks ago is the source on this.

Correct and to add to that Cbn reaffirms that Craig is still getting a screen test for 007.

Jonny Lee Miller: Looks like someone's annoying little brother. Sorry, but no.
Jude Law: Everyone already knows my thoughts on this topic. Give the pretty boy a chance! He looks vaguely like a young Hoagy Carmichael, and he shagged his kids' nanny! That is so Bond. Come on.
Ioan Gruffudd: Oddly thin face, would make a good villain, but he's just too distinctive to be Bond. And by distinctive I mean ugly.
Goran Viswhatever: I love his look, but can he do the accent? Only time will tell.

Yeah. So much of the rotten corrupted bastard about him. He'd be great. Seriously. Him or Davenport, anyway.

Would be an interesting choice, and certainly superior to many of those being currently suggested.

JACK DAVENPORT
as
JAMES BOND 007
in Ian Fleming's
CASINO ROYALE
I've wanted to change the position of "Ian Fleming's" since forever.
Now it seems, we can.
Brave Eon, brave Sony.
Now, do the right thing and give the role to the only guy with the looks, the class and the chops to do Ian Fleming's 007 justice.
Alas, poor Pierce, we knew him well.
Shame he's not coming back

Very unlikely but there you go. After 2 more Pirates of the Caribbean movies, his star will have risen. Would he do Bond? God only knows although he comes from a famously pragmatic British acting and political family!
Looks like O'Lachlan it is then!
