I think they'd make extraordinary films.
That being said, the Union, from Benson's novels would make a pretty good modern day SPECTRE like organization.

Ahh, even thought I don't like Benson's novels, I think they should be adapted into films.

I agree. The Union would make a great SPECTRE-like organization for the Bond films. But, if they were to adapt any of Benson's novels, I would love to see them do Doubleshot and Never Dream of Dying. Those were my two favorites.

Like all the other 007s I am sure Craig is a supporter of the left wing and the Democrats.
Sorry, but that would never work. First off, `ol Dubbya wold send the military after him, and then when the US finds out that someone is after `ol Dubbya, all those "rootin tootin true straight Christian Republican Patriotic Americans" would go after him. If that did not work, and it `ol Dubbya ticked off the American people, well hell, that's okay too. He'd crucify one of his or good `ol Dick's helpers, and be back in time to watch Survivor. So, sorry, YOLT, but it would never work. Besides, how would they film in the US with `ol Dubbya as the villain, are you nuts?

I think that we are going to see the return of an international group of criminals or whatever with Casino Royale and the following films. If this next era of Bond is really going to reboot the series, I think that a SPECTRE-like organization from the first Bond movies is needed. With the new SPECTRE-like organization, the new films will be compared to the grand Connery era, instead of the Brosnan era, which is what the filmm akers are tying to avoid. That being said, the Union, from Benson's novels would make a pretty good modern day SPECTRE like organization.

Hillary Clinton would be a better villain.

Seriously though, I think there are a lot of good ones that aren't being used, like Qadaffi, Iran's preseident (alleged former hostage taker), and a possible corrupt European Royal family member (from a country no longer ruled by a monarch). Or, do Colonol Sun, and have him be the ancestor of a Chinese Emperor.

"Pirates seize French ship off Somalia". Link to story is here:
http://news.yahoo.co...irate_attack_12
A luxury yacht with 30 crew members was hijacked with pirates on its way from the Seychelles (A Fleming Bond location in the Hildebrand Rarity) and the Med. The French and Canadian navies have already dispatched warships and other naval forces to search for the missing ship and free the hostages.
Several years ago another hijacking attempt was made on a large cruiseliner also off the coast of Somalia, however it was unsuccessful.
Piracy still exists and is prevalent in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Anyone think this type of scenario might have potential in a future Bond film?

- Counterfeit medicine; medicine sold under a different name, with different active ingredients than the ones listed, a placebo sold as medication or, worst of all, with substitue ingredients that are toxic.
- Some kind of engineered war, like in the Caucasus, and probably orchestrated by the military-industrial complex to make money. Or possibly a corporation that sells weapons to war-torn regions with one hand and then wins all the reconstruction contracts with the other, exploiting countries twice.
- Private military corporations (scary stuff).

I'm sure we should give James Bond a bit more credit than that.

I think most would share my opinion that the villian should not be anyone who was elected (don't start). So that means not Putin (or Medvedev for that matter), not Bush, not even Hugo Chavez.
Some good suggestions here though.
Ummm, how would you do that? I don't know if any apolitical middle-eastern terrorists.1) Middle-Eastern terrorists (but non-Islamic and strictly apolitical)
Seriously though, why would you want to? Just to make sure people undertand that you're not against all muslims/arabs, you could have Bond working in tandem with, say, the Turks (we have at least one resident Turk on the boards dont we? What say you?). Some moderate Muslims.
Besides, it's not like radical muslims are going to not watch the film because of that.

Wouldn't mind seeing a female lead villain for a change either.

On that note, Irma Bunt has left SPECTRE and went to the Union, or her daughter.

By the way, thank you for the wonderful illustrations of how easy it is to thoroughly convince the masses of anything if you say it often enough and loud enough.

I'd really love this to be the starting point of a literary Bond mission! I don't think it'd work in the films, but in the novels it would be perfect. Just think about Dr No (bird dung), or even OHMSS (allergies)!
For instance, if the story was situated in the 60s, when satellite images weren't as easily available as today, a mad sadistic henchman of the Villain could be serial-killing pet rabbits around the Villain's lair, using satellite images to locate hutches invisible from the street. It would raise concern in the SIS about how the guy would be able to get sat images, and Bond could be sent to investigate, unveiling an evil plan by the main megalomaniac Villain. Ain't it cool?

I can imagine the briefing with M:
"- What do you know about bunnies, 007?"
- ... Sir???"

-> Plot: Keep it real, the villain's plot should be against the UK's interest but doesn't have to be evil in itself. Doesn't mean there can't be something else evil going on. Oil, defence contracts, whatever. The villain might have some sort of private defence contracting going on (a nice way for Bond to infiltrate and get some military action in).
-> Location: Africa. Sierra Leon type of situation, lots of nasty dangers around every corner - also one of the sub-Saharan capital cities. Let us see something we wouldn't see on our summer holiday.

The WHO (the World Health Organization, not the rock band) warned people not to go into Ugandan caves with bats, after a Dutch tourist contracted the deadly Marburg virus.
Deadly bats in caves, infected with a terrible virus, in an exotic country devastated by wars (and former British protectorate)... Again, it would be a wonderful premise it would be for a James Bond adventure! Very Flemingesque IMO.
As a side note, the Marburg virus is part of the plot of last volume of The Moneypenny Diaries, Final Fling.
