Should be well worth picking up, with huge improvements in image and audio quality, thanks to some heavy duty restoration work (we'll really notice the difference on the older films), as well as reports of things like documentaries missing from the current editions and new commentary tracks by Roger Moore.

Sorry if I've missed any reports here at CBn concerning this matter, so if it has been mentioned time and time again, please refer me to the appropriate link or thread.
Good timing. We just had two main page stories on the new DVDs yesterday (which, as Loomis said, are most-likely coming in late 2006).
All 20 Films to Be Remastered for New DVDs
Sir Roger Moore to Record DVD Commentaries

Now if I can just time the sale of my old sets on ebay...

Personally, I'd delay selling the old sets on eBay just yet. If it turns out they will replace some of the older features and commentary tracks, you may be missing out on something you'd wish you'd kept. I'm awaiting what will be recycled from the first wave and what will be new. Thanks for the responses and the links. I am getting excited all over again, as the rage
I felt upon seeing the inferior sound quality on films like MOONRAKER and FOR YOUR EYES ONLY.
THUNDERBALL actually sounded and looked pretty good, but I'm sure these upgrades will blow the old stuff away.

So is there going to be BRAND NEW Docunmentaries & also are they going to have Double DVD Disks???
New documentaries have been rumoured.
The BBFC has been rating new and older documentaries (which they publish online), but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be used - I guess.
Example: Dr. No

Notice the first two listed:
*The Guns of James Bond --- New to my knoweldge
*Terence Young Bond Vivant --- Previously in special edition

That would be deja vu for me. I was there when the stores opened in 1999 and 2000 for the initial DVD special edition waves.
As for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD...nobody yet knows which format will prevail. When VHS and Beta were launched everyone agreed that Betamax was the superior format technically but it was VHS that prevailed.

Right, and really it's up to the public to decide. Sony would be stupid not to release the Bond films on their Blu-ray, especially since it's early on in the format war.

Last I checked it was (as far as studios go):
Sony (MGM - largest library), 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney,
vs.
Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros., and New Line
The entire purchase of MGM has pretty much been written off as an attempt to gain support in the next format war. In this case Bond is very crucial to success.

Well in the case of those shiny discs we all love the computer comes into account too.
Blu-Ray = allied with Apple (Mac's)
HD-DVD = allied with Microsoft (PC's)

Dr. No(poster used for the 30th annervi. VHS release or the CBS/Fox VHS days one)
Goldfinger(The poster used for the EMI or Capital Records soundtrack)
Thundball(The Look Up Look Down Look Out one)
You Only Live Twice(With Bond in the Little Nille copter)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service(poster used for thr 30th annervi. VHS release)
Diamonds Are Forever(the poster)
Live And Let Die(the poster)
The Man With The Golden Gun(The curren DVD cover art is not very good and the last VHS box art also not very good, poster would be ok or a new cover art design)
The Spy Who Love Me(The movie poster is the only way to go for this one, the DVD cover art is not that good. It has the feeling of a WWII spy movies during the days of Gary Cooper, James Cangy and William Holden)
Moomraker(not sure)
For Your Eyes Only(the current DVD cover art or the poster, either one is fine)
Octopussy(the U.S.poster, that was also use on the 30th annervi VHS release)
A View To A Kill(the poster that was used for the 30th annervi VHS release)
The Living Daylights(the U.S. poster)
Licence To Kill(the U.S. poster)
Goldeneye-Die Another Day(poster or current DVD cover arts is fine for those)
That is one of the questions that has to be answered, others that need to be answered are will there be all new start up animated menu screen for all the DVDs, new interviews with the stars, new making of, will the trailers still be part of the special features, what about the booklet will there still be one, any new stuff not on the perviouse DVDs at all, and how much will it cost for a box set or each DVD. I just wonder when will these questions be answered or at lease some of them will start to get answered. If it takes too long fans will get itchy. It would be nice if MGM say something once in a while. Also it would nice if there is a email address to email the questions, unless they don't like it. But sometime some people listen.
As fitxing the movies how do you feel about going the way of how Gone With The Wind was done. For those of you who has the 4 disc one will know what I'm taling about, that is if you watched the documantry on how they fixed up Gone With The Wind. That might be a good way to go for the older Bond movies.

My question is:
Will Never Say Never Again finally get the deluxe DVD treatment?
I was wondering this early. Minor note, the BBFC's website (which you really can't go by) has all the James Bond DVDs listed under "Ultimate editions". Never Say Never Again isn't. I hope they do, but I'm thinking it may be unlikely they will.

I think that in addition to the booklet, each DVD should include a fold-out poster (not an extremely large one of course) but it would be a nice touch to add that into each of the boxes.what about the booklet will there still be one, any new stuff not on the perviouse DVDs at all,

I thing that Righty is, well...right! NSNA is nauseatingly horrible. I'd rather have my eyes scratched out by a rabid baboon (which is what it feels like to watch it) than have to watch that movie at any time. Thunderball is perfect in every form of possible development, and I'll take perfect instead of some [censored]ed up experiment like NSNA anyday!!!I can't imagine why it would since it's not a James Bond film.

I am not a huge NSNA fan, in fact it's one of my least watched Bond films. But to hear people slam it and say it's not a James Bond film when that's the lead character's name and he has the same traits as the Eon version, although a bit older, and he's played by the best actor ever to play the role, there's no argument. It's not like when Alan Arkin took the Peter Sellers role in the film Inspector Clouseau.I thing that Righty is, well...right! NSNA is nauseatingly horrible. I can understand why NSNA was the red-headed stepchild for a while, but let's come into the 21st century. Much of the old guard is gone, the lawsuits have been settled and the film is part of the MGM or maybe now Sony library.
It may not be a great film, but think of the possibilities a special edition of NSNA could produce. I'm sure the backstory alone would be worth hearing. I'd like to hear director Irvin Kershner talk about directing Bond and Empire Strikes Back, two of the greatest parts of pop culture of the 20th century. I'd like to hear writer Lorenzo Semple talk about what he could and couldn't do with the character, the challenges of creating an older Bond and how he had to structure the story so as not to infringe on Eon's rights. And how about a Battle of the Bonds featurette?
Maybe NSNA wouldn't sit well among the 20 "official" Eon entries. But it shouldn't necessarily be ignored, either.
