I know for a fact the new Bond is gonna disappoint the majority of Bond fans initially because, like comic book fans and sci-fi fans, Bond fans almost always are negative right off the bat.

You do have a point there--the key is to find someone well cast who will win over most BUT not all since that's impossible.

I agree with the general statement of this thread.
I don't think there is any unity in the Bond-fan community.

It seems that a majority doesn't want Brosnan to return but a majority doesn't want Owen to take over, a majority doesn't want Craig, Butler, Purefoy, Jackman, anybody under 30, etc.

I think one problem is that Brosnan hasn't quite delivered what he promised (as Remington Steele), but there still seems no good reason to get rid of him. That is to say, I can't realy see how replaceing him with any of the actors that are being offered would be any better than getting the old guy back in to do one more.

Perhaps the majority would like Brosnan to come back - just as long as he gave us the Bond performance that we all think he should have given us from the begining, and not the rather bland characterisation that we have got in the last few films.

It's never going to happen - so most of us will wind up dissapointed.

How very negative.

I have just today seen pictures of Ioan Gruffudd and he looks spot on as Bond. Handosme; young; and for a change, IS sexy!

I can't see Eon wanting their Bond to be Bond and Mr. Fantastic. I believe he is signed up for two more F4 films.

Why would EON even think of those "final" four? Bringing back Brosnan would make more sense. Even better, bring in Butler and every female with eyes will go see Casino Royale.

Hear hear! Butler would be perfect. I have a feeling he may be their secret choice anyway. The Sunday Mirror list may be nothing more than a smokescreen.

I'm a fan of Butler too, so I'll second your choice. I've been saying since the article came out that I thought it wasn't legit. I don't think it's a smokescreen as much as it is a tabloid trying to create news and EON letting it get out to keep attention on the matter.

One interesting thing, though for those of us that want Butler to be the new Bond. He has two movies coming out between now and the release of CR. The new movie version of Beowulf is due out later this year with Butler in the title role. Also, sometime in 2006 he is starring in a movie about Robert Burns. So his next two big screen appearances are as a mythic action hero and in a love story. Sounds like good prep for Bond.

I'd definitely welcome Butler as Bond, given the pathetic line-up of milquetoasts we've been hearing about lately. He'll bring a sort of rough-but-smooth quality to Bond that nobody has had since Connery.

I don't think that the newspaper who ran the story about the four candidates is running a story that they just made up themselves, because if they were the ones making it up to sell more copies, would they really include those four names as being the final four? No, they wouldn't. If they wanted to sell more papers and were completely making up the story, then they would have said that they were Clive Owen, Daniel Craig, and then maybe included Cavill and Visnjic. I think that EON may be playing a trick on us, but I don't think that the newspaper is deliberately making this up because using these four names doesn't really make good business sense for them because hardly anyone has heard of three of the guys on this list (excluding Visnjic, whom people know from ER). It's EON that's playing the trick on us, not the press.

What if these 4 candidates are actually already chosen as the "support" characters 'for' Bond. And not to 'be' Bond himself?
We've (members of CBN) already pegged Camilla Powers as either Moneypenny or Vesper (or maybe even someone else).

Until this week is up and if at all EON/Sony makes a statement these four 'candidates' are still a part of the ever-lasting hoaxes by some evil PR company.

That has been mentioned here before. Zencat even confirmed that Cavill has indeed been tested as a possible Bond if they go young. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the others were somehow involved in screen testing for some part in the film not necessarily Bond.
