Many years ago, a friend of mine told me that there was a version of the Tomorrow Never Dies theme song sang by Bjork. This version, which had been composed by David Arnold, never made it into the movie. In fact, it never made it into the open because I never heard it. While doing some research on the net a few weeks ago, I realized my friend was totally wrong. Yes, Bjork did collaborate with Arnold on a Bond song, but it wasn't Tomorrow Never Dies. Instead, she did a wonderful retux of You Only Live Twice, but because she didn't like how she sounded, the song was not included on the Shaken and Stirred album. However, there was another version of TND, sang by a Danish band called Swan Lee. Apparently, that was going to be the song for the film, until somebody more famous came along, Cheryl Crow. The Sawn Lee TND song can be found on iTunes.

So here's my question to all Bond fans: do you know of any other obscure Bond related songs? Here's my little wish list of Bond songs that are rumored to exist out there and which I still haven't heard :

* Goldfinger, by Debbie 'Blondie' Harry
* Goldfinger, by Nina Haegen
* A song called I Wanna Be A Bondgirl, by some female band (not Bond!!!)

Thanks for any info!

There are many threads on these lesser known Bond songs. Some of them include:

The Man With The Golden Gun - Alice Cooper
For Your Eyes Only - Blondie
Live And Let Die - Guns N' Roses
Tomorrow Never Dies - Pulp
The World Is Not Enough - Straw

Visit Swan Lee's homepage! They made a pretty good video for that song, inpired by the Goldfinger Titles.

Are you sure it was really intended to be the title song for TND? The track was published in 2001 on their debut album.

Pulp's song is called TOMORROW NEVER LIES. I think it's great - but wouldn't have worked as part of the official series. Saint Etienne also tried out with a bizarre song called TOMORROW NEVER DIES, which almost sounds as if they were trying not to get the gig:

'For loving him, I'm so crazy for loving him
But there's only cold inside his heart
Using words to hypnotize
Taking cities as his prize
Tomorrow never dies'

There was a not-awful attempt at Thw World is Not Enough by some outfit called Straw. I wish Mi6 still had their rare Bond tunes section open, it was very good.

I love Straw's song for TWINE. I listen to it regularly and really wish it had made it as the official theme rather than that garbage they ended up using.

If you search the music discussion forum and read the threads of yore, MrMoneypenny, you'll find song upon song of rare Bondedidity recommended and derided in equal part for your viewing and listening pleasure.

I'm a big fan of Straw's The World Is Not Enough. it's a bit insular with all of its references, but classic unofficial stuff nonetheless. I'm also partial to the atmospheric "You Expect Me To Do What, Mr Goldfinger?" mix of Diamonds Are Forever on McAlmont and Arnold's Diamonds Are Forever single. In fact I think I'll dust the bab off and listen to it now.

And let's point out, for all those rookie Bond fans, that Alice Cooper's "Man With the Golden Gun" is an entirely original (and, in my opinion, superior) tune for that movie.

That's another one that I listen to regularly. Probably my favourite track on the LALD soudntrack. I guess it could be regarded as an official version of the theme though.

Thank you so much for the Swan Lee link. The video is amazing!!!! A true homage to Goldfinger. Yes, Swan Lee was supossed to sing the title song of TND, according to an interview they gave a Dutch music magazine. Although the song was written in '97, for the movie, it only ended up on their debut album 4 years later.

Thanks again!

This topic caught my eye :)
I'm new here.

With regards to the song "You Only Live Twice" which was remade by David:

http://www.ianflemin...bondmusic.shtml
Check out the part that says
Under Covers: Covers of Bond Music
One Brief Moment
Natacha Atlas/Mantra Records

I guess that summarises what really happened.

I've heard both versions as performed by Bjork and Natacha Atlas and they're the same music with only the difference in vocals of course.
Bjork is a funny character. I actually liked her rendition as well as Natacha's and I'd give them both good yet equal ratings :)
As usual, David makes sure that the Bond music matches the locale pretty well.
