Because of the Brosnan era of "character" in James Bond. Why do I get a bad feeling whenever I read filmmakers banging on about "character"?

I think there was an Indy Jones book called that.Well, as long as the title won't be "Indiana Jones and the Philosopher's Stone" I think I'll be okay with it...

When cameras roll, then I will believe it.
(But this sounds pretty promising.)
My thoughts exactly, Zencat. I'd love it to happen but we have been fooled before. Lets hope we get it this time! Thanks for the update, Bon-san. Loomis an older Harrison and Sean seems even more inviting than your Sly. The last Indy was great and I think the people involved have the potential to do it again. It could be their NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN--only much better!

I think it's more likely to be THE DA VINCI CODE meeting a STAR WARS prequel. Still, a 1960s setting (which they'll presumably go for) might be interesting - Indy meeting The Beatles in India, perhaps.
Good god, I hope it's better than THE DA VINCI CODE! But like NSNA because supposedly it will be definitely an older Indy but one who still is very potent. Exactly the way they need to play it.
Indy in the 60's? How about running into a young scottish actor on location for a certain spy film?

The new one will probably be the worst of the bunch. I just hope they don't let it get bogged down with too many monologues and flashbacks to when Indy was throwing conkers as a child. I want to see rolling boulders, lava pits, and ceilings with spikes. I want to see Indy laughing when he thinks he's found a way out of dodge, and then screwing his face up when he realises that plan just ain't gonna work. I want to see pits full of arachnids and runaway mine trains. Let's go out on high here, so find a good stunt double and let's do it.

Or his dad running into Sean!
Ha! I like that.

What is it with all these comeback movies currently in the pipeline? Rocky 6, Indy 4, Rambo 4, Die Hard 4.
It's funny. Every major franchise nowadays seems to be either young so-and-so (Batman, Bond, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees) or old so-and-so (Indiana Jones, Rambo, Rocky). Seems there's virtually no such thing any more as a good old-fashioned straightforward sequel featuring an established movie icon in his prime, without any origin story or twilight years aspects. I expect we'll have YOUNG WITHNAIL & I next, and a film about an 80-something Dirty Harry.
Now, most of these "comeback movies" I've enjoyed or am looking forward to, but I have a very bad feeling about the upcoming outings for Hannibal, Indy and John McClane. Still, if they can turn BOND 22 and ROCKY VI into cinematic gold, I guess they can do anything, so I suppose there's hope.

Of course, I've never seen Indy in theatres. That might be why I am so pumped about this.
Most of all I am very excited about another Indy score from John Williams. He hasn't let me down yet.

YES!!!!! Thanks for the news Zen. I look forward to it with way less skepticism than Harmsway. You got Spielberg directing--that is a huge advantage over many other projects of this ilk or any other ilk for that matter.

I'm a bit skeptical of this film myself. After all the hype and all the anticipation and wondering whether or not it'll even get a greenlight, I can't imagine that the film could live up to all of that. At this point, I can't say that I have much interest in the project.

OK, well, call me cynical, but I ain't believing anything until I see some on-the-set stills of Ford cracking a whip. And Daniel Craig should play the villain - that would be classic! Imagine him having scenes with Connery.

Does anyone know if Connery is in the next one?
Lucas has said "they're writing him in whether he wants to or not". Considering he's fully capable of driving a dumptruck of money up to Sir Sean's house to get what he wants, I think he'll do it.
I do expect this to be better than the Star Wars prequels... Spielberg is still a great director and Lucas still has good ideas when he lets other people work with him to refine them.

Connery has said he's uninterested in returning, but Lucas and co. have written him into the script. Odds are he'll be back if they offer enough money.Does anyone know if Connery is in the next one?
Personally, I don't see the point. The whole Indy's dad gimmick was entirely used up in LAST CRUSADE - what more does Henry Jones, Sr. have to offer the film? Bringing him back just seems like unnecessary clutter for INDY IV.

Very much agree- feels like Lethal Weapon 4 where they felt they had to clutter the poster up with all of the baggage co-stars they'd accumulated through the series.
Any news if the film will be shot on digital (which Lucas loves) or film (which Spielberg believes in strongly)?
Personally I think the further away they keep Lucas the better. Look at him going on about macguffins as if that's what makes a film. The definition of 'macguffin' is an item the nature of which is unimportant- it's the pursuit of it that's the important part. Thankfully Spielberg seems to know that.

The Spider-Man films are pretty much that- they're not depending on anything old. The X-Men films... all straightforward. Harry Potter...

I would venture a guess for film, seeing as Spielberg's the man behind the camera (Lucas' role on the previous films has been very much in the background, with Spielberg really leading the charge), and I would think he'd want to keep the look consistent with the previous films.Any news if the film will be shot on digital (which Lucas loves) or film (which Spielberg believes in strongly)?

And Connery's also got more than enough money to tell Lucas to sod off.
Not that I think he would, though.

Let's hope most of the decision-making goes that way!
