If Cavill or O'Lachlan are cast, Eon won the match.
If Brosnan (or a generic 40-something Bond, like Purefoy or Butler), Sony won.
That's my feeling on the matter as well. And, based on that, I hope Sony wins.

I can't imagine that Sony has much of a say in the casting, and I don't think they'd risk a falling-out with EON to reinstate Brosnan.
