Both are solid, but I like LTK more. I do get annoyed by Dalton's hair in LTK though, it makes him look more villainous. Both of the End Credits songs are amazing.

What´s this obsession with his hair.  Okay, the casino scene had him slick it back.  But overall, he just has short, unfussy adult hair.

For me Licence to Kill was Dalton's definitive portrayal. I think The Living Daylights is excellent but Licence to Kill is sooo much better.

LTK definitely had the better Bond girls. Carey Lowell, and Talisa Soto are two of the best looking women to be in the series, but TLD is my favorite Dalton Bond film. Although I love them both.

Completely greed, although I do like Kara quite a bit since it's not very often (at least in terms of recent franchise history) that we get a Bond girl that isn't a "Bond equal".

Could be the next one. Who know ? After all, he is the most likely former Bond to come back in a future film (as supporting cast, of course)...

I remember saying to myself, "why wouldn't Bond want to be with Talisa instead of Lowell" when I first watched LTK. Then, when Lowell cut her hair, I saw why lol :D

TLD for me. It's very much a throwback to the classic James Bond, with the European locations, the Aston Martin, etc. It is kind of a Generic James Bond plot, but Dalton was really, really good in it. The opening defection sequence alone has to be one of the single best translations of Fleming's work to the big screen. And, after the doom and gloom of QOS and SF, doesn't a good old fashioned, "generic Bond" movie sound really good right now?

LTK is a very good movie too, especially the performances by Dalton, Davi and Del Toro. I know this is a tired old complaint about the film, but sadly it does look like a cheap TV movie to me. Add the extremely graphic violence, and the result is a good, tough, gritty Bond film, but just not - for me - a lot of fun to watch.

The Living Daylights. Aside from OHMSS and FRWL, it's the closest representation of the books.

Licence to Kill is a good film but it doesn't really feel like Bond, books or films. It comes off more like an episode of Miami Vice. Also some of the violence is a little too graphic. This is Bond not Die Hard. They might as well have dropped some F bombs while they were at it.

The Living Daylights; the was an absolutely fun adventure throughout, and it had a great sound track, colorful villains and allies as well as a JB Girl that was gorgeous and feminine!

Although TLD was good, I have to say LTK was more original. It didn't try to be a Bond movie.

LTK. After seeing it on TV when I was 9 I loved that movie I don't know what it was about it but I really enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think the thing with Dalton's hair in LTK was that he was receding and they had to find a hair style that would work with the lack of volume up front. I guess the result looked a little odd because he had (and continues to have, by the looks of it) an overall thick head of hair everywhere else. Idk why they didn't just stick to his do from TLD, which worked fine to me. It's interesting to note that they didn't stick him with a rug or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I think that from Connery to Brosnan, only Lazenby and Dalton didn't wear a touppe or dye the hair in any degree.

But this isn't about hair, though it's part of Dalton's enigmatic character.

I'm overall just amazed at the casting of Dalton, just because he's so un-glamorous compared to those before him. But that's what makes him great and unique. He's good looking enough for the part, but he never seemed especially vain or shallow.

Dalton is a good looking man without drawing attention to it as sort in a pin-up or male model sort of way, not to sound demeaning to the others. He prefers the acting part of the role to the glamour part, for sure. I thought he wore the suits well.

Connery was mostly uninterested in the glamour part of the job and said he'd prefer to play Bond without the hairpiece and all that. He has a natural presence that conveys the glamour aspect up.

Of course, Lazenby and Moore did model early in their careers and Brosnan and Craig are naturals who play well to the camera in terms of looks and glamour.

1) The Living Daylights

2) License To Kill

Got to admit it was a close call because although I prefer TLD for it's plot, scope and beautiful locations the theme song for LTK sung by Gladys Knight is one of my all time favourite Bond songs.

While I do admit that Dalton's take on the role was probably ahead of it's time in terms of its tone and demeanour I just find his portrayal charmless and humourless. I realise that he was probably closer to Fleming's Bond than even Connery was but I always get the impression that out of desperation to be completely different to his predecessor Moore, he killed off any humour and wit in proceedings and instead had this uber serious, almost dour, air about him. Maybe some people liked that but it turned many others off. I suppose a bit like Brosnan, Dalton felt trapped between Connery's Bond and Moore's Bond and it showed.

My first post.  I chose License to Kill.  TLD is a great introduction to TD as Bond, he definitely strayed from Moore's bond (I mean he had to, right), but kept the new Bond's personality and overall feel of the movie somewhat neutral, maybe a tad moody.

LTK, oh I love it.  It's raw, wound tight, no joke as actor Robert Davi put it.  I admit this Bond is probably near the end of the spectrum as the literary Bond's violent, ruthless side.  Dalton was just brilliant.  I remember watching this and thinking, this is guy is f*cking terrifyng, something I only got from Connery (and lately, a little from Craig).

I usually use the books as my base of comparison. Why? I don't know, I guess since it all started there, the essence of Bond (to me, anyway).

And let's face it, Bond had a small sociopathic side.  Sure, there were glimpses where he reflected on a different life (books again).  But this guy had to murder people when needed.

I was so impressed with the TD interview in the Everything or Nothing documentary:

"These movies weren't made for six year olds.  This man killed.  In cold blood. Bang bang bang bang bang (making a gun with his hand).  I wanted people to believe in him again."

However, I don't think that's all TD wanted to show; the guy is so talented he could have done so much with the character.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you think!

I will always defend Timothy Dalton and his Bond movies.

License to Kill will always be my favorite. I loved both the title song and the ending song (If you Ask Me To) I would love for that song to be played at my wedding. I also love both the Bond women for different reasons. I like how ruthless the villain is. He can be taken seriously because of how vicious he is and scary. I just really enjoyed this Bond movie a lot.
