This thread is for the discussion of The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown and the film adaptation that is going to be released in May 2006. It will star Tom Hanks and will be directed by Ron Howard.

I think this will be a great movie. Even though I really enjoy Tom Hanks, I didn't picture him as Langdon, but I'm sure, like always, he'll be great. I hope that after this one does well, they will adapt Angels & Demons, which is the first book in the series.

The first second the character of Sophie was introduced in the book, she registered in my mind as Sophie Marceau. Brilliant casting, then! :)

My image of Langdon was not Tom Hanks, but he'll do.

Also, I wouldn't have picked Ron Howard to direct. I would have thought along the lines of Doug Savant.

I didn't know they casted it yet. Also hearing Audrey Tautou is in the running, and a few other French women.

Thought I'd mention that french actor Jean Reno will be playing the part of Bezu Feche the french police detective. Perfect choice! I could see him in that role when I was reading the book.

Found out that the next book in the series is called 'The Solomon Key' and it's rumored to take place in Washington D.C. and revolve around the Masons.

It's set in America and involves the Masons? Wow, better start writing a non-fiction book around that kind of subject to cash i-----

Oh. Damn. Someone's already beaten me to it.

'The massive success of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" has readers eagerly awaiting his next novel "The Solomon Key". Using hints and clues left by Brown in interviews, on his website, and on the cover of "The Da Vinci Code", Greg Taylor takes you an unprecedented tour of the new book before it is even released. "Da Vinci in America" explores the topics likely to be included in "The Solomon Key" - including the Founding Fathers, Freemasonry, and the Ku Klux Klan - to give you a better understanding of the history behind Brown's research. Maps and discussion of Washington D.C. also acquaint the reader with the setting for the next Robert Langdon thriller. Read this book before you buy "The Solomon Key"!'

That doesn't suprise me....anyone who has ever made the walk up the hill at the end of King Street in Alexandria, Va. knows how freakily powerful the Masons are

As much as I like Tautou, I am disappointed if this turns out to be the case.

Yes, i had envisoned Sophie Marceau for the book before I found out they cast her! She's French, like the characer, and is talented and beautiful.

The casting of Tom Hanks are mixed feelings to me (he seems to be cast in every part, give someone else a chance). I, myself had envisoned Liam Neeson as Robert Langdon.

The theatrical trailer has been released. I cannot watch it because my computer doesn't have the updated QuickTime.

It's a piece of "escape" literature that has flat characters, horrible developments, a contrived plot... it's an utter waste of time, really, and I have a feeling that the film will be little more than a more grown-up, better filmed version of NATIONAL TREASURE.

Roger Ebert said it best: "I read books like The DaVinci Code to remind myself that life is too short to read books like the The DaVinci Code."

Is it a teaser trailer? I thought the teaser trailer was the one released a while back with little more than CGI graphics.

I quite liked the book, although it is a direct rip-off of his first Robert Langon book, "Angels and Demons". Sure, they are not literary masterpieces, but it's an enjoyable read anyway.

I also love the book. But I like Angels and Demons even better. The movie looks like it is going to be great! The trailer looks nice

Langdon, Sophie, Silas everyone looks almost like I imagined.
