I don't see Brosnan's relationship with Stephanie Zimblest getting much better out of this.

I remember watching the show when it came out in '82. It was fresh and unlike most shows on television.
The show wasn't about her character, and what has SZ done since that people these days would know of?Putting Brosnan on the box cover by himself is a real slap in the face to Stephanie Zimbalist. That's like putting Bruce Willis on the box cover of Moonlighting by himself. As for the "Before He was Bond he was..." tagline, I'm glad none of the various Saint box sets had such a line on them.
Done purly for marketing purposes for these reasons.

Actually, Stephanie Zimbalist's character came up with the name Remington Steele so people would take her seriously, thinking that she worked for a detective agency run by a man, not one run by a woman so, she should be prominently displayed on the box art.

It's clear that the ploy has worked for her in real life as well, otherwise she WOULD be on the cover.

Also, the retail price of $39.98 seems a little steep considering a lot of TV show season boxes go for between $20-$30. Of course, that's the full retail price and most places will likely discount it. I guess it depends on the commentaries and features also. It may be worth it at that price.

It has a tagline that's something like "BEFORE HE WAS BOND HE WAS...REMINGTON STEELE".
You don't want stuff like that on your boxsets. I don't know about other people but I prefer quotes and/or references to other films/shows to be left off.

The picture even looks like it's from the GE promotional campaign.

Pretty sweet that Pierce Brosnan has a commentary track on the pilot.

I agree...I actually think Zimbalist was the only good thing about this show.
She was good BUT Pierce was the break out star of the series(from what I hear causing Stephanie much jealousy) and was clearly the engine of the show.

Lucky bastard. The press release just arrived from Fox....and our Lifestyles editor asked if I wanted to review it....looks like I may have it as early as the end of this week.
Pretty sweet that Pierce Brosnan has a commentary track on the pilot.
Well I'm not really a fan of the show, but I am interested in checking out Pierce's commentary track for the first episode.

I imagine it would be something like this...Well I'm not really a fan of the show, but I am interested in checking out Pierce's commentary track for the first episode.
"Hi, I'm Pierce Brosnan... welcome to the DVD audio commentary track for Casino Royale... Now, I know what you're thinking, 'I bought Remington Steele! What the [bleep] is the deal, Pierce!?' Well, I'll tell you... y'see... just like I was invited back for Casino Royale - [bleep]ing Broccolis - I was also invited back to do the DVD commentary for the film... Well, they may have revoked my invitation to star, but nobody took back their offer for me to do a commentary track! Hey, what the-! Let me go! I don't care if I'm supposed to be talking about Steele! You can't take this away from me! NOOOO!"
There's a scuffling noise and what sounds like a wine bottle being smashed. Stephanie Zimbalist inexplicably appears and delivers her commentary track by shouting over the ruckus in the background.
At least that's how I imagine it.

By the way, I think "Remington Steele" was always very cheesy, like "Hart to Hart" - but somehow I liked it... when I was 12. And Brosnan always was the best thing about it. A kind of Bond lite. So the DVD will be something to enjoy with a lot of smirks and roll-eyes-moments.
My thoughts exactly...but as I rewatch old tapes, there are parts that I enjoy very much - parts that are witty or even poignant. It's hard to pull off a romantic detective dramedy, but Brosnan and Zimbalist did.
By the way, I'm sick of hearing about Steph's bitterness. Even if she is bitter, she has little right to be...it's painfully obvious which one of them is vastly more talented. (Hint: it's not the blonde.)

We will see if this gamble EON took was sensible. If a new actor does not deliver Brosnan

Actually it arrived right on schedule on Friday, but i was at another location that day for our employee appreciation event. It was waiting for me when I got in this morning.
The packaging looks pretty slick with the 2 super thin DVD cases in a nice box. Brosnan artwork dominates the set, but the only mention of "James Bond" is on the cover of the box with the words "Before he was Bond he was...Remington Steele"
I should have the review up by the start of next week. With 22 episodes I will probably need a good portion of the weekend to get my teeth into it.
