I will also say that OHMSS has a very strong score.

I don't think Barry ever topped that, but The Living Daylights was a great score to finish off his career. I think the A-Ha song is quite poor, but the two Pretenders songs are great, and I love the way electronics and drum machines are used for some of the tracks, giving the music a fresh feel while still being obviously 'Bond' music.
I do enjoy David Arnold's scores, but he does sometimes overdo things, such as the use of the Bond theme, and I think sometimes has too much music!

(WTF was with Sony anyway? I never saw the CD in any CD or book/CD store anywhere!)
The CD single seems to be extremely difficult to locate in stores as well.

That one's a little more understandable, as it's technically not released in the U.S. It's my understanding that the U.K. pressing has been imported here & there. Personally, I'll just rip the audio from the DVD when it's released. Already paid for the iTunes release & the CD single has no other version on it.(WTF was with Sony anyway? The Living Daylights was good, as mentioned before, the orchestra-synth made it memorable, but i would have liked more for a gunbarrel. maybe more of a beat thrown in there, to show that it was from the '80's?

I'm amazed and surprised every soundtrack except for NSNA has at least one vote.
Me too, considering I just added Casino Royale'67 and Never Say Never Again not too long ago.

I wouldn't make Never Say Never Again my favorite, but I enjoy listening to it - glad it was added as a choice!I'm amazed and surprised every soundtrack except for NSNA has at least one vote.

Wow, seems I'm not one for bucking the trend. I went with
OHMSS-Just love the synth, LOVE it. And it's got IMO the best Gunbarrel music as well, for what it's worth.
TLD-A very contemporary score from Barry. As I've said elsewhere, I'd love to have seen where he would taken it from there.
I am right with you as far as the top 2, just in reverse. To me TLD is a richer and more complex soundtrack that uses the 4 themes, (Bond, Where has Everybody Gone, TLD and If There was a Man) to great effect. "Assasin and Drugged" is the best example of this mixing. OHMSS is a little more simplistic but has what has to be the standout song of all time "Journey to Blofeld's Hideaway" Only some of his work in "Out of Africa" and "Dances with Wolves" tops it.
AS far as where Barry would have gone from TLD, I think some of the music in "Dances With Wolves" evokes a Bondian feel and could have been used very nicely in Goldeneye, such as the Pawnee Attack music and the film opening music when Kevin Costner rides between the Union and Confederate lines

It's important to remember 'though that this is a poll on soundtracks and not themes; how well does OHMSS sustain the whole of the film? That earlier comment about the cheesy Christmas music is a case in point (although again I think it acts to lessen the tension).

Kind of surprising that this is still the case per Never Say Never Again. Even if it's certainly not an overall favourite among fans, it seems that every option in these polls gets chosen given the diversity among these forums.

A Soundtrack can be the best score without having the best music. Live and Let Die, Tomorrow Never Dies and Casino Royale '06 all have fantastic scores that really fit the action, but you wouldn't neccessarily want to listen to the album that often. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, though almost as good as these, doesn't quite have the same effect, but is easily the best collection of music from the entire official series. Likewise, the music from Goldeneye isn't bad, it's just the fact that it doesn't fit an exciting chase sequence.
Overall, I find Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Casino Royale '67 and Tomorrow Never Dies to be soundtracks which hugely benefit the films they score, making them better films than they rightfully should have been, whereas Never Say Never Again and Goldeneye adversely affect the films they score, making the films worse than they should have been.
