I would say You Only Live Twice and On Her Majesty's Secret Service were when John Barry was at his peak in the Bond series. YOLT particularly has beautiful music to accompany the exotic Japanese locations, especially at the end during the ocean scenes. Also, one of the best title songs.

TLD is definitely my favorite, I like the title song and the way it's integrated into the score, I like the JB theme with the techno, "Where Has Everybody Gone?". It's a great score. "Excersise at Gibraltar" is my favorite overall track.

Great choice. Excellent tracks to begin that Bond film.

The Living Daylights is my favourite - pure class and a reminder, as if we needed it, of just how perfect John Barry and Bond were together.

I just bought the DAD soundtrack and I have to say that for as many times as I have seen the movie, listening to the track in my car is like watching the film while I drive. I really love the music in the film. However, funny thing, the actual title song stinks, and I think that Madonna stinks as well. But the instrumental music throughout I think is great.

It really made me want even more music from the film. It also made me wish that it went sequencially...from the start all the way to the finish. Instead it starts with the title song and then another adaptation before going into the movie instrumentals. Do all of them do it this way or do any of them go directly with the film from gunbarrel to the ending credits?

I think that I will proceed and purchase another one. If I were going to purchase another one which one should I buy? Right now, I prefer to stay in the Connery, Brosnan eras. So, out of these, which one?

Anyone care to help and comment? THANKS. I will check back later to see what response this received.

Pretty much all of them are jumbled at least a little bit. The two that are the most in order though are Tomorrow Never Dies (either the original or expanded edition) and The World Is Not Enough.

Of Connery era soundtracks, the best is probably You Only Live Twice although Goldfinger, Thunderball, and Diamonds Are Forever are just as enjoyable. For Brosnan, the best are TND and TWINE. And FYI, Moore's best soundtracks are Live And Let Die and For Your Eyes Only while Dalton's best is The Living Daylights. Also, Lazenby's On Her Majesty's Secret Service has a very good soundtrack as well.

This site is a great reference for trying to re-create the order of the earlier film soundtracks, check it out...

and YOLT is my favourite movie, but dont have the soundtrack yet, but hopefully that will be 4th!

i think moonraker would be higher on the poll, but was only 30min:50sec long! (listening to it now  :D )

Great choice! Moonraker is #1 for me as well. And yes, a shame about the short length of the soundtrack.

I really love all the John Barry scores, but "Her Majesty's Secret Service" always stood out as a favorite. It's quite gratifying to realize that I'm not alone in feeling that way!

My favorite is definitely On Her Majesty's Secret Service - it's simply beautiful and elegant, and very suspenseful in parts (like when Bond sneaks into the office). John Barry is by far the master of James Bond scores - You Only Live Twice, Moonraker, and The Living Daylights are outstanding. I have wondered, though, why did Barry not do the scores for TSWLM, LALD, and FYEO? It bothers me a little that he didn't get to contribute to what (in my opinion) are 3 of Moore's best. Yet perhaps this is a good thing, as his music can make even mediocre movies, such as MR and A View to a Kill, almost great. Almost - which is still a great accomplishment.

I like David Arnold as well - I love Tomorrow Never Dies.

I am one of the few people in the world who thinks Goldeneye's score is best. Just for it's uniqueness and style that was perfect for Goldeneye.

I voted for OHMSS, no question. The score is defintely the most memorable, the theme song by Louie Armstrong is just as strong.

That's why I voted for OHMSS. We Have All The Time In The World stands out as the best Bond-related song ever, due to Louis Armstrong's performance. This song turned out to be the last that Armstrong would ever record before his passing, which makes it even more significant. Although the Christmas Tree song is the worst part of the soundtrack, the rest of the tracks more than make up for it, including John Barry's instrumental opening title song, the Journey To Blofeld's Piz Gloria Castle, and the beach rescue/fight music in the pre-title teaser sequence. But above all else is Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong, and he saved his best for last -- the very last.

I would have to vote for OHMSS. I also adore TLD, the main orchestral action theme is the stuff!

Fro mwhat I have heard Casino Royale 2006 score is a dark, haunting score. When I hear it in its entirity it may surprise me. Blunt instrument seems to have the old magic in it.

You Only Live Twice is far and away my favorite of the soundtracks.

Besides a great title track, and the gradual build-up of "Capsule in Space" which I really love in particular, the whole thing is great! Probably the one soundtrack of the ones I own that I listen to the most.

:) Glad to see O.H.M.S.S is a fave with most of the members.
It is my favorite Bond score. I think John Barry really surpasses
himself with a score which is reflective of the epic and emotive
qualities of the film. IMHO it's a masterpiece.
The rest of Barry's sixties Bond soundtracks also rate highly on my
list, and all are unforgetable.
I never used to rank DAF vey highly until i heard the remixed, bonus
edition CD. It blew me away! The score is so underused in the film.
As for the rest - i like LALD,TSWLM,MR,AVTAK,TLD,TND and TWINE

Wow, seems I'm not one for bucking the trend. I went with

OHMSS-Just love the synth, LOVE it. And it's got IMO the best Gunbarrel music as well, for what it's worth.

TLD-A very contemporary score from Barry. As I've said elsewhere, I'd love to have seen where he would taken it from there.

Very honorable mentions to LALD and Goldeneye, both criminally underrated IMO
