Batman & Robin was fun.

That's brave.

Clooney was coolest - most like the comic books which I love.

Uh, Clooney was about as "cool" as Adam West was. But less self-aware of his own silliness.

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Batman '89
Batman Returns
Batman Forever

I feel a little bad that TDK is gobbling up what might otherwise be votes for Begins, leaving it only one ahead of Batman '66. :(

Bale
Keaton
Kilmer
Clooney

I don't think any of them were bad, but Bale and Keaton are by far the best as far as I'm concerned. Shame Keaton didn't return for Forever, which I think had a lot of potential. One of its most glaring weaknesses, to me, is the abrupt shift in tone from Returns, and that isn't helped by the change of lead actor.

The problem i have with Batman(1989) & Batman Returns is Keaton.
The character of Bruce Wayne/Batman is somewhere around 6'0-6'3 & Keaton is all of 5'9.

Call me crazy, but I like Bruce Wayne (and James Bond, since this is a familiar debate  ) to be closer to average height. It gives them more of that "everyman" superhero status. Like Craig, I think Keaton's height was fine given his built. A stockier frame might have made them look bad, but thankfully they're both wiry guys.

Batman & Robin was fun. Clooney was coolest - most like the comic books which I love. I agree with everybody that Michael Keaton was not very good in the role. Reminds me of Daniel (who I like but the film not so).

Most like the "comic book" comic books, you mean.

Favourite Batman movie: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (not listed in poll)

Favourite Batman: Clark Bartram from Batman: Dead End and the World’s Finest trailer. (not listed in poll)

And as far as missing some key fields in the poll, what about the films of Lewis Wilson, the silver screen’s first Batman, and ex-husband of Dana Wilson Broccoli and father of Michael G Wilson. Also not mentioned are Kevin Conroy, Rino Romano amongst others.

Ah, the love is still not there.

Bale’s my favourite Bats now. And I’ll give top film to The Dark Knight at least until I get a chance to see Batman: Mask of the Phantasm again.

Yes. Kristian Bale was too serious for to be the Batman. No fun.
I also like Arnold as Mr Freeze - he was very funny. And cool!!!!
And Clooney was good two - maybe he would make a good James Bond.

Frankly, I thought that Gyllenhaal was no better or worse than Holmes. But at least Holmes' Rachel didn't seem overshadowed like Gyllenhaal's did at times.

Agreed, but it's because she wasn't that much better that I would have preferred Holmes, if only for the sake of continuity. It would have made her romance with Dent more believable and significant to me. Fickle, perhaps, but there you have it.

Holmes' Rachel was just a mouth piece about Gotham City, she was little more then the love interest. Gyllenhaal's Rachel actually seemed like an adult who was torn between Dent and Bruce.

Anyone who thinks that The Batman that was in Batman & Robin obviously hasn't read the comic in quite awhile. The tone of the stories & character himself is very dark & serious much like the Bale Batman we have now, maybe even darker.

Really? You should definitely check them out for Burton's take on the franchise.

I've seen bits and pieces years ago but not enough to give a fair rating. They've been on my Must See List but I haven't gotten around to them.

Batman & Robin was more in tune with the Batman comics from the 50s & 60s. OF course that was not the problem with Batman & Robin, it was just a dumb movie. It made DAD look like Citizen Kane.

The big problem I had with TDK is that it did not have any really great memorable lines like
"Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb"

I'm surprised for the lack of love for Batman:Mask Of The Phantasm.
Yes it was a animated film but it was released to theaters so it should count. It's one of the best Batman films period.

Yeah, the reason why I liked it alot because everything about the film was personal to Bruce. Also the plot was alot more interesting then the frankly generic and predictable one in BATMAN BEGINS.

I went for the 1989 "Batman", but that might change after I've seen Batman Begins a couple more times. I've only seen the latter once and it's a film that warrants more scrutiny.

I went for Bale as the top Batman.

I've refrained from voting untill The Dark Knight was released, and now I can officially say that it is my favorite Batman movie by far! Mainly because of Ledgers performance as the Joker. Everything else is brilliant aswell. A brilliant movie, the best movie so far this summer, without a doubt!

Based on those that I've seen, here we go:

1. THE DARK KNIGHT
2. BATMAN BEGINS
3. BATMAN RETURNS
4. BATMAN (1989)
5. BATMAN & ROBIN
6. BATMAN FOREVER

However, the gap between 4th and 5th on this list is so vast that I can't conceive of describing it. The Schumacher entries are two of the worst pieces of cinema I can remember seeing, and I found it nigh on impossible to decide which was less deserving of last place.

I can certainly see the appeal of the Burton movies, and they only fail to crack my top two, because it was Nolan that turned the entire concept of Batman into something that I could appreciate for quality of movie-making as opposed to comic book excess.

Christian Bale got the nod for my favourite Batman just ahead of Michael Keaton. However, I don't think that Bale has quite nailed the role, and I can certainly conceive of someone surpassing him in the future.

Agreed, but that's easy for me to rank. Surely last place is deserving of Batman and Robin? That is worse by far in my view.

I genuinely find them as bad as each other, plus I have a dislike of most things that Jim Carrey does which pushed BATMAN FOREVER over the edge first for me. Splitting hairs here though. I have no intention of watching either of them again.

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Batman 89 & Batman Returns
Batman 66

The rest don't really matter.B & R can be ok for a laugh every couple years, but nothing more.

Christian Bale & Kevin Conroy are my favorite actors to have played Batman.

Batman (1989) for me.

The Joker- "My balloons. Those are my balloons. He stole my balloons! Why didn't somebody tell me he had one of those... things? Bob, gun."
[Bob hands him a gun, Joker shoots him]
The Joker- "I'm gonna need a minute or two alone, boys."

I thought Keaton played Batman well, though his Wayne was a tad off.

I do like Bales version of Wayne better, so I'll probably be adding Batman Begins as well to my list- can I have 2 favorites?

I think given a good script and story a la batman begins and the dark knight, Val Kilmer would have been a great Batman/Bruce Wayne. Maybe he would be a good choice, if Warner Brothers decides to adapt The Dark Knight Returns comic book into a movie.
