IMDB, though we know how reliable the site is :), has just posted news that Lucas maybe considering making episodes 7, 8, and 9, even though he has said that he won't make anymore. I personally don't think it will ever happen.

I strongly doubt this.

I doubt it too but maybe III sets up the possibility for another trilogy...I'm not impressed with his recent films and tampering but if he hired another director that would change things...

It would be cool as hell to see Luke as old as Obi-Won playing the wise Jedi master... :)

It seems unlikely, but with Lucas, ya never know.

If he does, i really hope he allows outside directors and writers.

Depends on the actor, and whether or not Lucas is directing.

They can be great films, but it's more likely that they'll suck worse than the prequels (sorry Loomis). :)

I'd say no.

The Star Wars saga is about Anakin Skywalker and his Jedi training, dark, redemption and death. By the way we can call the New Jedi Order series of Episode 7,8 and 9. We don't need any more Star Wars

Actually, I thought the saga was about making money.

7, 8 & 9 were touted by Lucas when #4 became a hit wasn't it? But I heard after #1 that he had no thoughts about the last 3.

Er, yeah: A NEW HOPE, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI.

But I hope we do get Episodes 7, 8 and 9. Nice to know that there's still at least one quality filmmaker out there: Lucas, George Lucas. :)

After the travesty that was THE PHANTOM MENACE, I chose not to see the subsequent films. Enough liberties and inconsistencies were present to destroy anything that the original trilogy established. If they're lousy, I'll take your word for it, if they're magnificent works of cinema, I'll still take your word for it. He ain't gettin' any more of my money, at least when it comes to any new films and "Special Edition" dvds. I love the original trilogy, always will. (I even re-acquired three of the original SW Topps trading cards sets recently and was thrilled to have them again) STAR WARS was the jewel of my childhood, and to see it in it's present condition is like going back to your old hometown and finding out it's now a ghetto. Absolute desecration.

His quality for the prequels is greatly less than the quality there lies with the original trilogy.

Nope, it's just that people tend to look back on the original trilogy through rose-coloured spectacles. STAR WARS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI were good, but not that good - and certainly not streets ahead of THE PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

In terms of quality, the STAR WARS films are all much of a muchness.

IMO, they were streets ahead of the prequels. Sorry Loomis, but the prequels have brought the series down. :)

I was refering to a post-classic trilogy of course...maybe we hear Darth Maul has been cloned and is frozen in carbonite somewhere or something like that...there will be some sort of red hearing, I'll wager that. Besides, we never heard the term Sith in the first trilogy so we're gonna hear all about the "revenge" mentioned in 1...I'm sure Lucas is entertaining it but does he really want to take some more geek abuse while making more money?

You're way too kind to G-lu.

I doubt Lucas would be making them if 7, 8, and 9 got made, unless he gets frozen in carbonite or something.

As a side note, I found it interesting that there were actually going to be four trilogies at one point.

If there are any plans for further Star Wars films, I echo what other people have said on this very thread: I hope they get another writer and/or director.

Loomis: I disagree with you about the quality of the originals - I really think that they aren't only streets ahead of the prequels, but cities ahead... :)

I remember a long time ago, sometime prior Episode I's release, Lucas said he would never do 7, 8, or 9, but did have a good story in mind for them just incase someone else took over and wanted to do them. They would revolve around Luke Skywalker's jedi academy, and the return of Exar Kun.

But if 7, 8, and 9 did ever come up, they should be even more prequels. They would chronicle the birth and destruction of the Sith. If anybody here is big on Star Wars, then you would know that they would kick :).

In terms of quality, the STAR WARS films are all much of a muchness.

Well the first three have characters you care about, are joyous and have a plot that you care about whilst the prequels are hollow special effects showcases, with Attack of the Clones happening to be a very very good one.

They may technically be the same but people will remember Han Solo long after they've forgotten Mace Windu.

One of the things about the originals was the incredible people they had. James Earl Jones, Harrison Ford, Alec Guiness, Julian Glover, and Frank Oz. (small part though). Alongside plenty of on screen charisma from Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher as well.

I thought I heard somewhere that Lucas always envisioned this as a trilogy of trilogies. I think it would be logical to find out what happened to the heirs of Han and Leia and Luke.

Besides, once Lucas releases the original trilogy, then the original non-special editions of the trilogy; the super director's cuts of the other trilogy; the anomorphically enhanced HDTV verions of the original trilogy and the second trilogy; and whatever else he hasn't released, he'll get desparate for something else to throw out there.

Or he can always do a new Indy movie with Spielberg.

Is there money to be made?

Then yes, Episodes 7, 8, and 9 will come out. It might be Lucas, or his heirs, but they will get made.

They told the story, once Ep 3 comes out the whole series will come together and make sense. In ROTJ, they ended it, Vader and the emperor was killed, the new Death Star was destroyed as was the Imperial Empire. So there is no need for another 3 movies.

True, but the entire Empire wasn't destroyed, there still have to be remnants on other worlds, various Star Destroyers in other places.

The Jedi still have to be reorganized. Leia must be taught to use the force.

Enough fodder for a least one sequel film.

He'd make enough for easily more than one.

I guess its good for him there were no books he based things on. You can't say "Hey, that wasn't in...", then again, not exactly a good thing. How do we know Lucas's plans involve more and more hideous CGI blokes.

With what he's done so far, I wouldn't expect him to have to justify his actions.

I'll be interested to see if Episode III affects all of this.
