OT: I remember when I went to see Minority Report there was a preview for SwimFan and after the preview was over I yelled out "Boooooo!" ...the whole theater joined inYou know, all day long when I think of this title I think Swimfan (that MGM turkey from a few years back). Even when I first saw it this morning, I saw Swimfan and not SilverFin. Weird.

Saw a pic of that girl who holds you as your latest interest, Eliza Dushca (spelling all over the place!) today in a magazine. Apparently she is the lead in some tv series. Have to say I have only seen her in Bring it On, the cheerleader flick - superb.

However, I can't help but think how much more exciting all this would have been if we were talking about a real continuation novel. You know, the kind in which James Bond is Double-Oh Seven...instead of James Bond, Uh-Oh Poopy Pants.

Um... could it be... Charlie Higson is a member of CBn
Response to bryonalston's 2st post:
Yahoo! I like this guy. Anywho, she has nothing to do with anything, but as I mentioned before she does have her own show now called, Tru Calling.

Good plot...but it's been done. The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. Great film if you've never seen it, btw. When I first heard of the plot (The scottish castle) I thought that the villain would have some kind of LOCH NESS MONSTER machine thing that is really a cover for some kind of underwater operation. A local girl named Wilder Lawless takes a photograph of what she believes is the monster, and gives it to the local paper. It is nicknamed "SilverFin," due to its shiny fin. She disappears of course, and James goes to find her, because he's in love with her or something. What he really finds out is that the SilverFin is an experimental submarine developed in the sleepy town, where it isn't likely it will be detected. James solves the mystery somehow, and gets his first kiss after he rescues Wilder from drowning.

As for the cover art, it's all wrong. The eels or whatever those things are on the front cover are intriguing, but it's downhill from there. The fonts, as Evan pointed out, are dull, and certainly all wrong for a 1930s piece. Even the Young Bond logo is quite dull. The Harry Potter books are successful, and the cover art for them isn't striving to be modern. If you're gonna go after the Potter crowd, you may as well go the whole hog and use old-fashioned artwork. Be interesting to see the US art.
Still against the concept of this, though. Bond shouldn't have adventures as a child. But I'm curious as to how they'll strike a balance between Fleming's Bond and this Young Bond-come-Hardy Boy-adventurer. I fear we'll see a lot of the latter and very little of the former, contrary to comments made by Mr. Higson himself.

Doesn't explain why Thunderball is a "Bondian" title, given that thunderballs are noted meterological phenomena, nor "Brokenclaw", on the basis that claws may be broken - and given that "Goldfinger" was a real person's name pinched for the occasion, I suspect that is a subtext too far this time.I'd imagine hearing a silver fin would be more common than hearing about a gold finger. Hence, a more exotic title.
.Goldfinger sounds better
What does that mean? How better? It's your qualification, so justify it.
But that "debate" is done. Back to the killer eels.

a 13 year old bond, he can't drink, drive, smoke, have sex or even work, especially as an agent with a licence to kill.

Like Thunderball, Silverfin could be the name of an op that is named by the combination of two unrelated words.
But wait, Jimmy isn't on the job yet, is he?
Perhaps he's in the 21 Jump Street version of MI6 in these books.

Eels or worms...still an odd cover.
