I think Riggs changing as dramatically by 4 as he does works for the story because in the first film he really has nothing to live for. In the second and third he jusy enjoys making people think he's crazy as it gives him an edge and by the fourth film he's got extra responsibilities and finds he has to tone it down. It's really a fairly clever character arc for an action franchise.

Once he found his wife's killer (and dispatched him) and then settled down with Lorna, he lost the suicidal edge. As many say, it was a gradual character arc that makes sense...if he's still crazy and suicidal by the fourth one, many of us would no longer care. We'd be egging him on to pull that trigger.

I had no problems with it for the most part either. I liked it when he went on extremes. It's just that third film, Pesci isn't as funny as he is in the 4th, and both the main characters seem bored in it.

Oh, I agree. The third is definitely the qworst of the series. I like it just fine but it's really flat in some parts.

The villian is extremely lacklaustre, as is the plot.
