Point taken? Very much so, although I'd still prefer Owen to Jackman. Otherwise, your description of the ideal next Bond flick sounds spot on. I'll add to it that good old-fashioned "travelogue" feel.

I second that. That's what I love about 'The Tailor of Panama'. It's like watching a Discovery documentary with suspense :)

Of the choices out there I think Jackman is the best.

Owen seems terrific and would make the core fan community happy but I don't think he would have a large a cross-over appeal bringing in the casual fan.

I'd like to see Brosnan do one more unless the next film is Casino Royale in which case bring on Jackman!

Not only that, but it's also like watching a proper Brosnan Bond film with the guy given the opportunity to show what he's really capable of.

You never can tell, though. Who'd have thought Matt Damon capable of carrying a massively successful action franchise?

Damon's better looking (or at least prettier) than Owen.

Damon may have what Robert MaKee feels is Bond's staying power: He looks like a lounge lizard but when it comes time to kick @$$ he's more than up to the task.

I didn't. He really surprised me. Still not my favorite of actors, but if he's doing great with Bourne, then more power to him. I think it's one of his best roles yet.

Damon and Di Caprio are the two biggest stars and talented actors of their generation...IMO.

In answer to the original question of this thread:

Collect on the bets I've made.

Throw a party.

Pray the script works.

First, bitterness at having to accept that Pierce is actually gone.

Second, Relief considering how many really bad choices there are compared to Jackman.

Finally, Let's see what the man can do.

I understand your point, to a degree. I mean come on, you'll sit a film out if someone you don't think would be a good Bond is cast? I don't know about you, but I go to Bond films to see Bond. The chap who's playing Bond comes secondary to that. Granted I do care who's playing Bond, but I'd rather adjust to the guy than sit the film out altogether.

I'm past the point of disappointment if Brosnan doesnt come back. It's not so much I dislike him as Bond, it's just all this news and rumors have pretty much softtened the blow for when/if they really do announce he's gone.

For better or for worse DAD is his final Bond film, and I'm ok with that.

Well said JimmyB.

I'm much the same these days for my own two cents.

Would I like to see him do one more?

Yes.

If not?

Well...Alright then.

Jackman?

Perfect.

jimmy i cant do that because if an actor you dont care for is playing the part of james bond...a character you dearly love then it just does not feel right...if you like the actor then it makes things so much more nicer

how can i go see an actor i dont like play james bond? how could i enjoy the movie?

A fine choice. I'd at least see the film though Finesse, you don't know until you see it.

A valid reason. I mean I myself hated Lazenby for the longest time, he wasnt Connery after all. But after a while I realized the movie was really good, and it didnt matter who was in the role, because the script was great. After that I came around and also found Lazenby to be a fine Bond, and wished he had done a few more films.

I'm not disputing your reasons though, if you don't like the actor I can respect that, it's just something that I find a bit odd, you know :)

Fair indeed Finesse. Even if the actor chosen is not one that you like, wouldn't it be at least an idea to see the film to see if just maybe he's better in the role of James Bond?

In other words, giving it a try to find out.

I think the first thing I'd do is get my washing off the line. I've seen what seaguls can do, never mind flying pigs.

It aint never going happen dudes!

It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Hugh Jackman basically played 007 in Van Helsing, with Kate Beckinsale as the bond Girl, the forgettable Dracula dude as the heavy & Josie Maran & Sofia Colloca as the femme fatales.

BLAM!

Just kidding! :) No, I wouldn't kill myself if Jackman got the role, but I wouldn't be happy either. So many people on this site think that they can make me like Jackman, but what if I don't like Jackman? Maybe I think he's a perv!
I liked him in X-Men, but with all this talk about the actor playing Bond, it started to get really irritating, and as a result I can't stand him anymore.

Then that would be the case for any actor playing Bond, most likely.

Best bet is to at least try the actor out if they get the role.

That's my plan. Especially if someone like Owen is cast. Not that I don't like him, but because I have nothing to go by when thinking about him (though I imagine if he is cast, I'll rent a few of his flicks to see how he is).
