I was watching G4, the Gamer's Network with my kids about the new must-have
video games for the holiday season. There was a segment that featured the new game Spyhunter 2, during the evalutaion of the game the show's host announced that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had signed to play the hero in the movie based on the Spyhunter games. If you remember the game it was a pre-007 video games
car/racing/actioner where you accomplished secret missions in a tricked out spy car to the strains of a hyped up version of Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn Theme. In ways the Spyhunter games were cooler than some of the driving levels we've had in the Bond games.

So anybody else here about this? Any details?

As a fan of The Rock as an action star (I'm very opposed to the whole WWE thing, but I think that Dwayne Johnson has great potential as an action star - could he even surpass Ahnuld himself???), I'd check this one out...

The Ain't It Cool News web site displayed four preproduction images from the upcoming [I]Spy Hunter movie at the following URL:

Spy Hunter Pre-Production Images

I like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and I hope that this movies turns at well for him and I hope that the movie is more entertaining than the disappointed [i]The Scorpion King
.

I always thought that "The Rock" would also be interesting as a villain's super-strong hench man in a James Bond film. Eon Productions might have missed their chance, he might be too expensive now.

As much as I like The Rock, I don't think that he should be brought into a Bond movie. It would be a lot like if, suddenly, Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared as a villain's henchman.

And yes, it is a shame about what happened with The Scorpion King - although, I did enjoy it, it was missing the flair that Stephen Sommers gave to his Mummy movies (and even the lesser-loved Deep Rising) that made them so enjoyable.

The Rock as a Spy? We have a shortage of sevicable leading men in Hollywood I guess. Amazing there are so many people who want to break into show business...and The Rock is a movie star now? I thought The Rock was perfect for the cheesy Conan rip off though.

From what I've heard and seen, it was basically a standard sword and sorcery film that would have simply gotten lost in the shuffle if it had been released in the mid eighties when the genre was really popular.

Tarl - The Rock does not actually play a spy. To my understanding, he plays an Air Force pilot who is recruited to test out a new, confidential super-car...

(Cue PETER GUNN THEME)

According to a report on Aint it Cool News, John Woo is "on board" to make Spy Hunter starring wrestling superstar/up & coming action hero "The Rock".

I assume it's based on the computer/playstation games of the same name?

The report states filming is due to start in March 2005.

I think we can strike Mr Woo off the list of possible directors for Bond 21.

( ....... and, The Rock off the list of Bond contenders, of course !!)

Scheduled for release in late 2005 or early 2006 it COULD (I know big ? mark there) give Bond 21 a run for it's money at the box office.

Some other good news about John Woo for Tom Clancy fans. He has picked up the rights to Rainbow Six! :) That should be fun.

One can only hope. Yikes, has it really been seven years since his last good movie? Everything since Face/Off has been very disappointing.

What are you talking about? M:I-2 was four years ago, and that movie kicked some serious :)! :) I can't see how anyone could have the heart to dislike that film.

It was alright but honestly, he could do that sort of thing in his sleep. The action is good but the story just doesn't match up for me.

Wow. Because I thought the story was brilliant! Perfect for any spy genre.

But, of course, that's IMO. :)

I have been looking forward to this movie, only for the fact that The Rock will be starring. I was never a fan of wrestling, but after seeing The Scorpion King and especially The Rundown, I immediately took a liking to him; he's a guy who really enjoys what he does, and does it well - he's going to make a great action star, very charismatic, funny, and talented. I didn't get to see Walking Tall, but I do hope to soon.

I'm rather hoping that they do make a sequel to The Rundown - they mentioned a possiblity of a second one on the commentary with The Rock and director Peter Berg, and from the sounds of it, they had a lot of fun making the first one. Who knows?

Many fans and critics hated that movie.

I can't believe that. What is there to hate?

But Ebert gave it 3 out of 5, so that's all that matters to me. Other critics don't matter as much. Except Leonard Maltin. What did Maltin give M:I-2?

(P.S. I don't want to see any of these bad reviews! That will only make my day a really bad one, seeing as M:I-2 is my all time favourite movie. Call me crazy, if you will, but remember: that is IMO!)

I don't plan to go off topic with the bad reviews in any case, just letting you know not everyone was a fan. I found it to be fair to good.

Yeah, well that's reasonable. Not everyone is a fan of everything. As long as M:I-2 isn't the worst movie in the world, then I'm good! :)

I've heard many different reactions, but the one thing that remains the same in every review I've heard is that The Rock is great. And that alone makes it worth seeing for me.

I read that the DVD has a commentary with The Rock; looks like something for me to spring for once my bank accounts become a bit more plump...:)

I find it difficult to see how any film could be claimed by all to be the worst film in the world.

It's kind of hard for me not to get angry, because the forumers are kind of being blatantly harsh. And I grew up in a neighbourhood where I had to put up with a lot of that stuff, but I never won with the others, so yeah I get pretty ticked at that kind of stuff, even though I should just ignore. This might take some time for me to get used to.

I got kinda mad at this one guy who didn't like M:I-2. I asked him why he didn't like it, and he said "there was a mask for every situation". Come on! It was supposed to work that way! It wasn't like the writers went "Oh, Ethan is dead. But, uh... no, he wasn't dead! He pulls off a mask!". Ethan Hunt obviously put that mask on that guy because he wanted Ambrose to shoot his brains out! It wasn't coincidence or any of that crap!

Face/Off always was an interesting movie for me. I never could decide if I liked it or not, now Travolta's performance makes it better.
