zencat (08 Jun, 2001 07:05 p.m.):
Here's an idea. How about NO car in Bond 20. Since when has it been a requirment that every Bond movie feature a tricked out car? Personally, I think they're running the idea into the ground. It's like in the '80s when John Glen said they had to have their "traditional" ski/snow scene in every movie. Says who? The BMW in TND was the best, and it was logical that Bond NEEDED a German car for that mission. But come on, give us a break! If it's not organic to the story, no car. (Except maybe for a guest apperance by the DB5. Now that's a "tradition" I can get behind.) Does anyone agree with me?

Sure, but 007 needs a vehicle to travel around in, unless he's chauffer driven everywhere. I would like to see 007 drive a Q motorcycle. NSNA had one but that hardly counts. Perhaps one that can also travel on water and turn into a gyrocopter !. It's a ripoff of Wet Nellie and of YOLT but I would love to see it !.

I agree with zencat that a Q-Branch equipped car need not be a necessary ingredient (at least not for us fans of Bond as a character, though the regular punters expect some sort of *star* gadget).
I like the idea of Bond using the DB5 for transport - its a perfect 21st century equivalent of the Fleming Bond's vintage Bentley.
If Bond has to have a special vehicle, though, I'd prefer it were an Aston - but alas these choices are based on who comes up with the best product placement deal.

Would people agree if I said that "Bond's Car" is part of the James Bond formula that makes the films work. He's nearly always had a new car, it's just like him having new gadgets in every film. It's like him introducing himself "Bond, James Bond". It's always there, and it's great!

Anyone agree?

I personally would like to see the DB5 more. In Raymond Benson's books, Bond loved it, and bought it (without the gadgets) from the ministry after it was brought "out of action". Although it had no gadgets, he used it as a personal means of transport. We can see this in Goldeneye. ALthough he does have one cheesy extra, the Bottle cooler!

The car has the classic Aston Martin look (love that they've retained the grille) and also looks *very* Bond. Hope EON can come to some arrangement with the A.M.people.

I agree Zencat....Prior to Brosnan they only had the souped up gadget cars in 1963, 1964, 1977 and 1987. I remember being psyched in 1987 that we were going to get a gadget car again, but now its ho-hum par for the course with a Bond movie....much like the James Bond theme it has lost its special quality...
