If they are going to introduce a new car ... then they must use it to a large extent. Not like TWINE and GE.

Ah, but the Aston Martin DB5 WAS in TWINE -- except it was cut. In an issue of 007 NEWSLETTER there's a photo of the DB5 arriving or departing the King funeral. The cool thing is Moneypenny is driving (!) and Bond is in the passenger seat (because of his arm I guess). Why would they cut this!?"R" (16 Jun, 2001 06:06 p.m.):
One of the BIG disappointments for me in TWINE was that we didn't get to see a UK car.
I wish that they kept that in the film.
It shows us something maybe, why was Miss Moneypenny driving? Do James and her socıalıse? Surely he'd get Tanner to drive it, he's best friends with him. That's what it seems like.

I agree Dave. A new car is part of the excitement of a new Bond film, along with the new girls, gadgets, caper etc. Bond using the DB5 for off-duty use is always good to see. The scene where 007 drives to the Admiralty in his DB5 in TND is great to watch and demonstrates how classic that sort of thing is.Dave (09 Jun, 2001 11:50 p.m.):
Would people agree if I said that "Bond's Car" is part of the James Bond formula that makes the films work. He's nearly always had a new car, it's just like him having new gadgets in every film. It's like him introducing himself "Bond, James Bond". It's always there, and it's great!
Anyone agree?
I personally would like to see the DB5 more. In Raymond Benson's books, Bond loved it, and bought it (without the gadgets) from the ministry after it was brought "out of action". Although it had no gadgets, he used it as a personal means of transport. We can see this in Goldeneye. ALthough he does have one cheesy extra, the Bottle cooler!
These films didn't feature a special car for 007: DR NO, FRWL (though the Bentley is there), YOLT, DAF, LALD, TMWTGG, MR, OCTOPUSSY, AVTAK & LTK. Apart from the first two, most of the rest weren't too good; if a new car was featured would they have been more memorable ?.
DR NO, YOLT

Gee whiz, Moneypenny behind the wheel !...Now that's the sort of thing I like to see...If Moneypenny is doing that then what else was she doing for poor James ?. Anyway "zencat", you're amazing...you never cease to surprise me. I think it's about time I renew my subscription to 007 NEWSLETTER.

Will do!Blue Eyes (17 Jun, 2001 07:41 a.m.):
Could you possibly e-mail me a scan zencat through [email protected]? I'd really really appreciate it!
FYI: The pic was in "007 NEWSLETTER", issue 20, August 1999. I think you can get a copy from the JBFC website @ http://www.thejamesbondfanclub.com/ or SpyGuise @ http://www.spyguise.com/. The cover has many color TWINE pics surrounding the teaser poster.

He is best friends with Tanner - though the movies don't emphasise this all too much. And Tanner (we know from Benson's TND book) was outbid trying to by the Aston Martin because he wanted it as well.
So why has Moneypenny been driving Bond's car? Where did she pick him up from in Scotland? Where they staying at the same hotel? Or perhaps the same flat? Perhaps they were living together? Was there a purposeful backstory here for the fans?
I'm thinking back to the X-Files. In one episode for no apparent reason Agent Fox Mulder is wearing a wedding ring. We've never been told that he has been married or is, but we know he lives along. So we're left for ages guessing as to what it means. We still dont' know. Is this the same sort of fan pleaser trick?

Incidentally, the DB5 features in TND. It's parked outside the Oxford college, and we see Bond drive it into the Ministry of Defence. I quite like the way that Bond drives a 100% British car for his own use, but systematically destroys any German car he gets into for work. Especially after what BMW did to the UK motor industry, but that's another story.

It's intriguing isn't it ?...Though we have to assume there's nothing special behind it...just ever efficient Moneypenny helping out 007. I wonder if EON shot any dialogue between them in the car or when they arrived ?.

Ah yes...but what about TND ?...the DB5 was in that film. Perhaps it was cut because you see Moneypenny and 007 walking out of the church together anyway ?. Other scenes were cut too, presumably to cut the running length.....Anyway, if you get that scan from "zencat" could you post it on the site ?...to see Moneypenny behind the wheel...is so cool !.Blue Eyes (19 Jun, 2001 04:38 a.m.):
Just thought you'd liek to know the Aston Martin was cut because it breached the BMW contract from what I've been told. Somewhere in the contract it was written that GE could include it, but nothign else.

What an interesting vehicle. Looks a bit strange perhaps for a Bond car...perhaps for a villain it would be suitable.Blue Eyes (14 Jun, 2001 07:21 a.m.):

What a fantastic picture...somebody should use it on a fan poster...it's the Bond car for the new millennium !!!.
Well it's on a fanart picture somewhere. I know I've seen it. Just finding it that is the problem!!
But don't be so sure about it being the new car. No doubt Bond 20 would feature an even newer model!

That's a good rule; one of the Commandments for Bond....Love to see the new Aston Martin Vanquish !!.Blue Eyes (11 Jun, 2001 04:25 a.m.):
