According to Aldiss, that was the first "sci-fi" novel apparantly. :)

Also Bram Stoker's "Dracula". Then that's it . at least we agree on one point.

British science fiction tends to be speculitive ie what would happen if..

a Doctor created an artifical man?

every one in Britain went blind?

dinosaurs were found alive in the remote South American jungle?

some one built a large rocket with the aim of destroying London...

:)

I like them both about the same really. If I had to choose, though: TLD.

Actually, I made a poster for a ficticious Dalton Bond movie for 1988 called DEATH IS A BLESSING. It's basically what I've always wanted to see, a mix between TLD and LTK starring Dalton, and it has an interesting choice for a bad girl, too. :)

License To Kill is one of the few Bond films I don't watch. It just didn't do it for me. It was James Bond meets Die Hard or Dirty Harry. A complete detour from the traditons of 007. The Living Daylights is my favorite Dalton film (Yeah I know big choice, right) but despites it's obvious flaws it was a Bond film first and foremost and Dalton's performance was much more Bondian, not as serious as in LTK. After 45 mins of the latter film I wanted to say, "Okay Timmy we get the idea, maiming Leiter and killing his wife ticked you off. Stop scowling and get on with it!" Connery did a much better Avenging Bond in the pretitles of DAF, but then again we're talking Connery. Let me sum this up by saying I liked Dalton in the role and wish he had stuck around at least for GoldenEye and TND. My only complaint with him is that he didn't do well with the quips. (A Bond must!) But otherwise when you saw him on the screen you thought I believe this guy is the world's best secret agent. I wish EON would give some serious consideration to bringing him back as a Bond villian. Now that would be exciting, Brosnan and Dalton squaring off against each other while the world hangs in the balance.
