I must get something off of my chest. This is not to bash any of the fine posters on this site, just to state my opinion. I think the series has moved beyond being controled by the Fleming novels. I really don't care if Moore is not like the Fleming bond. I have read all of the Fleming novels (more then once) and must say that his Bond is not someone I'd root for. I didn't root for Dalton's Bond because he portrayed Bond as an unlikable jerk. Shoot, I don't think Connery, God to several Bond fans, resembled Fleming's Bond much at all (I'm talking about character, not physical looks. I never could form a clear image of Bond in my head as I read the books)!
Let me get something clear though, I really like the novels, but I like the movies much more. And I really like Roger Moore's interpretation (the only Bond I don't care for at all, is Lazenby, but I don't want to open that can of worms).
Why are we so easy on Roger?

Nor could I. It's kind of better that way. I wouldn't want to see the same Bond actor all the time when I read the books.(I'm talking about character, not physical looks. I never could form a clear image of Bond in my head as I read the books)!

I like it better that way as well. Starangly enough though, in Gardner's books I always pictured Dalton as Bond and in Benson's books I always pictured Brosnan (though I think that was the point alomst, in Benson's books).

When I first got into Fleming, I tried to put Brosnan in there because he was the current Bond and I wanted him to be the one I automatically pictured when I thought of Bond. I even went so far as to picture what earlier films might have been like with him giving the dialogue. But, in the end, I just read the novel and picture all of the different actors when some characteristic words or actions happen. Doesn't help Moore get in there very much.

I've heard that also. For the most part, I just imagine a Bond kind of similar to them.I like it better that way as well. Starangly enough though, in Gardner's books I always pictured Dalton as Bond and in Benson's books I always pictured Brosnan (though I think that was the point alomst, in Benson's books).
