I'm glad to hear that Bale got the role, being as he was the only candidate who isn't TOO YOUNG for the part.
I'm not a huge BLADE fan, so I can go either way on Goyer.
Let's just hope they get Danny Elfman to score this one. I don't care what people say - I think that his BATMAN theme is the best superhero theme ever created for a film.

But at least WB managed to get their **** together to do this RIGHT. I'm not a huge fan of the character or anything, but I did enjoy the first three films.

That is a really good question. I'm not an absolute huge fan of Keaton's Bats, but he did a fine enough job. I was fine with Kilmer in the role. But Clooney? Well, he was just Clooney...
Here's hoping that they can get Bale to commit...

Actually, that's another project that you're confusing this with. They're two different films altogether, I believe.

So far the film has an unknown title (but it still may be based on Year One).
I was a herr-uge Batman fan before my obsession with Bond kicked in, and I still have a wealth of knowledge concerning the Dark Knight, so I'll look forward to having conversations with any of you Batfans on the boards.
This is great news for me. Batman and Robin was a horrible mess, and I'm glad that WB have taken such a step back from Schumacher's ideal. I want to see the gritty detective of the 1940s and 1980s, not some camped up hero of the 50s and 60s. Keaton was inspired casting, and it's a shame Kilmer bowed out after falling out with Schumacher on the set of Forever.
I am very happy!

That's true, but to do the stuff Batman does, he's got to be a guy you physically think can take on super villains and pull off incredible feats. Not that Kilmer or Clooney fit that bill necessarily, anybody whose seen American Psycho can be confident Bale is a guy who looks fit and can still play the millionaire playboy guy while still maintaining that tortured soul thing.
In other words, he's a great all-around choice and has a fine director to work with. I think I can look forward to this Batman adventure.

Jack, you really need to see Memento...it is truly a special/unique film, very diabolical.

If it's a successful matchup, it'll add more weight to the argument that Bond could be played by an American. Works both ways could it not?

Well seeing as how Batman is American (presumably) and Bond is British, I don't think so...Originally posted by Blofeld's Cat

In theory, yes, but there is a long and proud tradition behind the big screen portrayals of Bond that does not exist when it comes to the BATMAN series (which started in 1989 and so far amounts to only four films). Likewise, no one really cared about Bridget Jones being played by an American, since there was no great heritage to screw with. A non-British or non-Commonwealth actor won't easily be permitted to don the tux.
If an American were to play Bond, he'd have to be a truly exceptional candidate for the part, one who blew all possible British and Commonwealth rivals right out of the water.
That said, we nearly had John Gavin and James Brolin as 007, and I'm not sure that they were seen as exceptional candidates, merely "any port in a storm" choices. And Mel Gibson was supposedly approached for THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and GOLDENEYE - isn't he American, not Australian?

and they need to tone down the gadgets and ditch the black rubber suit and go for a more faithful grey with a simple black bat outline on it...
make this dirty and not flashy like the last two..
maybe Bale can pull it off, but this story is all about one twisted guy who's not a playboy, sure that's the act, but Batman is easily just as messed up as any of the villains...
it better be about him and not some guest villain...

I actually got it for my girlfriend for her birthday, and for some reason we still haven't watched it. I do really want to, though. I did finally see Bryan Singer's incredible film THE USUAL SUSPECTS recently - absolutely brilliant.

now if they can just write a good story...I hope these guys understand the character...Bruce Wayne is the secret identity, not Batman....he's a detective and he doesn't kill....

The Usual Suspects and Memento are two of the absolute best (non-Bond) films for me. I could watch them repeatedly. I really get chills thinking about it.
Yes. Christopher Nolan directing Batman. Let's do it.
