I need you guys to help me decide on which soundtracks I should buy next. My goal is to get them all eventually, but I want to get the good ones first. Use the soundtracks that I already have to figure out my musical taste, so that you can give me atleast five suggestions of soundtracks that you think I might like. Thanks.

I just won this soundtrack for $3.00 in an auction on eBay.Originally posted by bond111
TND is one I hardly ever listen to, and I don't highly recommend it.

They were not and that is why I didn't bother looking for the "director's cut" version. Though I read somewhere that true Bond fans should get them both.Originally posted by bond111
Songs by Sheryl Crow and Moby? You mean those weren't on the later edition?![]()

I've got both. The music from the first half of the film didn't make it onto the first CD and it was corrected on the second, although they sacrificed one of the other Arnold tracks on it and instead had the interview with Arnold.
Both are good in my opinion, Arnold's best Bond music so far, although a lot of people think he uses the Bond theme too much. I can't get enough of it, personally.

It's basically on there in some half-assed fashion where who ever was responsible should have been kicked in the ***--hard. It also sounds like the soundtrack to Lethal Die Hard 1.7.
I agree totally. In one of the other threads, some guy is going on about how good this score is while slamming Barry's AVTAK and TLD scores.

- On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Question:
1. Is the The Man With The Golden Gun soundtrack any good?

There was a special edition soundtrack CD titled Tomorrow Never Dies: The Original Motion Picture Score by David Arnold that contains six additional tracks from David Arnold's score, not on the previous soundtrack CD, and an interview with Arnold about writing the sound track. This CD was released because fans wanted the complete David Arnold score. It turns out that the score of the film was not entirely completed when it was necessary to compile the music and send it off to the record company so that the CD and casette could be released at the same time as the film.
I believe that Cheryl Crow's theme song does not appear on this CD for two reasons. One, David Arnold had no hand in composing or producing it and two, the record company would probably have been forced to create an extra CD if they would have included the theme song and Moby tracks. I am certain that the interview would have been cut if the Cheryl Crow and Moby tracks were required for this CD.

Most fans rate it lowly, which is probably stemming from a lot of people's dislike of TMWTGG. But I like it a lot and would call it the most underrated soundtrack IMO.
I'm amazed that John Barry wrote this in about two weeks. It reminds me of YOLT in that it has a lot of Asian themes and such. Lots of good action pieces and such. Not too much is missing from the film, but it would have been a nice expanded edition.
I wouldn't get it before FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, FYEO, OP or TLD, but would definitely pick it up before the others, except maybe MR.

I think I am going to have it before I get any of the ones you mention above because right now I have a chance of getting a remastered version in good condition for $5.00. LOL.Originally posted by Turn

I don't blame you there, Righty. Get the values whereever you can get them.

I purchased them as sort of a birthday present for myself. Ironically, I got FYEO as a b-day present back in '81 and AVTAK in '86. Maybe B-day also stands for Bond day in that sense.
To round out my collection, I now only need:
Dr. No
Goldfinger
The Man With the Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker

Check out eBay, there are a couple of auctions with great deals on the soundtracks you need.Originally posted by Turn
I picked up FRWL, FYEO and AVTAK for my collection earlier tonight. I listened to FRWL in the car on the way home and it sounded great. My only copies of those were on old vinyl albums in the past and you could really tell the difference.

The other day I recieved the Tomorrow Never Dies I bought from eBay. It cost a total of $6.00 including S/H. The description said it was un-opened and it came un-opened, but seller did not tell me about the drill hole through the side of the CD case. This made me very mad. Also, today I won an auction for a "as new" Dr. No remastered soundtrack. Hopefully it comes without a drill hole.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed Righty007. I have experience holes drilled through CD jewel cases when a company my parents worked for had a strategic alliance with Philips. We could purchase CDs at a discount under Philips' employee purchase plan. I presume that they drilled a hole in the jewel case to prevent us from reselling the CD.
The CD you purchased could have been a promotional copy given to someone or an employee purchase that someone decided not to keep.

The punch hole indicates that it is either a promo item or it has been "cut out" by the label or distributor. This means that they sold it to a jobber at a greatly reduced price and the jobber supplied it to retail at the lower price. From my perspective, what is important is that you got the music and CHEAP! Only the jewel case has the punch hole. I used to be bothered by this as well but the more money that you save, the less important it becomes.

In addition to OHMSS I also got TSWLM. Like Moonraker it is very short. It's not my favorite Bond score by any means, but I'm sure it sounded fresh when it first came out. But aside from all the disco and synthesizers you will find some really great pieces that I will enjoy listening to in the future.
Next up I hope to get YOLT and TMWTGG.

--When it comes to Bond, if you don't own it, buy it!--
I love the remastered OHMSS soundtrack, not only had they added new tracks, buy they lengthened some of the original one's I believe. With TSWLM, it was one of the first that I bought from the second set of releases, I love Bond 77, (it's just screaming disco and excitement), but the rest are okay.

Oh I know the feeling Ian.

On top of that now I have DVDs to snatch up quick before they are put on moratorium again. Plus there's EoN for GBA and I just spent most of my money on finally being able to own GoldenEye for Nintendo 64. Ugh, it's hard being a Bond fan.
