Blofeld's Cat (23 Apr, 2002 03:40 a.m.):
Seems to me that if point 1 happened, points 2 to 37 would be redundant.
Quite true, but only if I had been directing and had got Roger to get No 1 "executed" correctly.
As for it being overkill, I don't think they all end in her demise. Shame really.

It would be the perfect film for the end of the Roger Moore era!
PS: I think there should be a final scene where Moore hands in his licence to kill to M and collects his free bus pass.

the script doesn't flow like butta
all of roger's movies are perfectly paced.. and types of movies that the more you watch them.. the better they get and you notice new little things everytime you watch them..
avtak is the only one where the middle is a little off.. even some of the characters in the middle of the movie "sorta" give us reminders of what the reason/plot is.. it is just a little loose in the middle..
the begining and ending is great!! but like I said before I sorta give this one a break because the whole 007 stage burned down..
so it gets a pass with me.. the little "flaws"

I agree with Bondfinesse in that it's close to perfect. I even can handle Tanya Roberts as the Bond girl because she is such pleasing eye candy. I went to see this movie multiple times on its theatrical release and when it came out on VHS I watched it so much that I wore out the tape.
The nostalgia of AVTAK is so powerful to me.

It feels more like a "Sean paced 007" which in my eyes.. has soooo many dead spots.. and that is the only Roger 007 that has that Sean/Pierce dead spot/007 Movie...
I think thats why I LOVE Tim/Roger's 007.. because they have NO dead spots.. they are perfectly paced movies.. and IF they are sorta slow for a few minutes..we all know that it will pay off at the end..
I think AVTAK is the only that has a different feel when it comes down to the script pacing..
ie: dead spots
in my eyes;)
But to be honest.. wow when I am watching a Pierce Bond I swear I have to watch it in 12 minutes spurts.. wow ..I think they are trying to get that Sean feel... but sean's are pretty good..

I was 13 in the summer of 1985 when AVTAK came out and I went to see it numerous times that season.

i was 11/12 when the likes of Thunderball, Goldfinger, FRWL etc were being broadcast on the ABC Sunday Night Movie.
i do, however, recall seeing YOLT and DAF in the theatres as a child with my parents .

Like "Diamond Are Forever" which celebrates all that is 1970 --- and "Thunderball" exudes the post-Kennedy 1960's --- these films are tentposts.... Not great Bond films, but absolute time-capsules of times that can never
be repeated.... Watch them and re-live all the swingin' good times.

YES! The summer of 1985 was a great time to be around and AVTAK was a wonderful movie to see in the theater. I got a much bigger buzz from the release of AVTAK, than any of the later Dalton or Pierce Brosnan releases.

Actually, I do have it somewhere at my parents' house along with a few other things. I must have around 30 or so VHS tapes of Bond material dating back to the OP/NSNA era. Someday I've got to catalogue it all to see what I have.

You should transfer it to DVD so you can keep it for future viewing. I know I spent a lot of time burning DVDs of my old VHS tapes when I first got my DVD burner.

I'd love to do that when I get a DVD burner some day. It would certainly save a lot of room and make my wife happier. She complains about the three cabinets and various areas of my house taken up by tapes.
