I'd be interested to hear their new style first before letting them touch Bond. ...

Actually, naah, A View to a Kill was superb, let them at it again.

Maybe they could have a Bassey-like connection to Bond?

I think the biggest dropped ball by the 007 crew is NOT getting SADE to sing !!

she should have been the Bassey-like connection to our era of Bond:(

You're really into her aren't you? Do you have any songs you think I should check out to try and sway me? (As I am unfamiliar with her work)

A lot of momentum at the moment for Duran, they're doing shows, writing new material - and so MTV gives them the Lifetime award.

They should do the next Bond theme song? Or maybe write one for Sade to sing?

Here's a link to some pictures from the MTV awards show.

Notice that it has been used for three of Brosnan's 007 movies...the current 007 movie makers are devoid of new ideas, look at all the stuff they recycled for DAD.

you know I just watched AVTAK again today.. and I am starting to really love it :)

one thing I really like is that Cubby alloud Duran Duran to do their OWN style!!! He didn't force them to copy R&B or even worse.. rip off the 60's style

why would you get these rock stars in the 90's and make them copy slow r&b kinda stuff..

stuff is a great word.. because it comes off forced and stuffy:confused:

Thank You Cubby for letting artist be themselves.. and change with the music times :)

almost all of the roger ones did that.. and when they didn't it was a nice change :)

I saw A View to a Kill over the weekend and I must admit that ol' Rog doesn't look as old as I remembered him.

Mind you, as I approach his age in the movie I'll be less likely to criticise the fact that he looked too old as Bond.

:: fast forward 20 years - "he's the perfect age for Bond!" ::

'cause he had plastic surgery after octopussy.

he looks younger in 'View that he did in FYEO (he looked old and tired in many of the scenes...i particularly remember him looking horribly old before his mount up the meteora)

btw, i love their title song for AVTAK....the music and beat is great. the only thing is that those who criticize DAD's lyrics should read the lyrics written by these guys...

nevertheless...very 'bondian' sounding song, obviously aided by barry's signature brass.

John Barry really did help the movie AVTAK. That was the first 007 movie that I actually purchased the soundtrack too.

I hate DAD's lyrics because it is so obvious, the words are plain and simple.

AVTAK's lyrics evoke imagery and move so well with the music. I think all facets of "Bond" are incorporated in the AVTAK lyrics. Duran Duran have never written songs that could be classified as "middle-of-the-road". Just compare the lyrics for the 2 songs.

AVTAK:

Meeting you with a view to a kill
Face to faces, secret places, feel the chill

Night fall covers me
But you know the plans I'm making
Still overseas,
Could it be the whole lot opening wide
A sacred why
A mystery gaping inside
A week is why

Until we dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
To fatal sounds of broken dreams
Dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire

The choice for you is the view to a kill
Between the shades assacination standing still

First crystal tears,
Fallen as snowflakes on your body
First time in years
To drench your skin of lover's rosy stain
A chance to find the phoenix for the flame
A chance to die

But can we dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
To fatal sounds of broken dreams
Dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire

When all we see is the view to a kill

And DAD's lyrics??:

I

It never reached number one in the UK - 2 was as high as it got. Great song, though.

yeah he got his eyes done... & his mole removed.

I personally thought he looked fine in FYEO & Octopussy..because he plays the character with wisdom in his later 007 films..

Sean did this as well in NSNA..which was cool!

IF you change your acting around //there is no problem! But if you play him like he is still 37 there is..

I assume Harrison Ford will do what Roger & Sean did in the next Indy Movie.. which is fine :)

A View to a Kill by Duran Duran works because they wrote it with John Barry. Barry then used it later in the film when Bond meets Stacy Sutton at the party at Zorin's chateu. The song sounds like it belongs in the film and the lyrics aren't bad. However, I am not a fan of Maurice Binder's titles for this film. I think that worst thing is the low cut T-shirt

One of the things that I dislike about the recent Bond title theme songs is that the music is so alien to the rest of the score in the movie. Eon hires someone to score the movie and then some pop star to do the theme song. David Arnold and Madonna could have at least created a tune together that could be used later in the film so that the title song was more integrated with the rest of the score. But no, her highness needs total creative control of her musical contribution to Die Another Day. Sigh.
