I was about to say... I was thinking "Hmmm, was it something I said on the Universal Export boards?"

The novelization by Chris Wood is much better than the final film. Makes you wonder where they went wrong. In the book, Jaws is villainous, not a Herman Munster clone. Bond doesn't do repeatedly stupid things like repeatedly punching him in the teeth or kicking him in his steel balls, or whatever they were inferring. If Ian Fleming had been alive in 1979, I am sure he would have wanted his name taken off Moonraker, because it sure as hell wasn't Ian Fleming's Bond in that movie. Fleming's Bond would have to wait to come back until the next one, I suppose.

Fleming: "I wanted to make money on Bond and quick."

I think he would have been very happy with Moonraker.

Moonraker would have to be my second favorite Moore film, after The Spy Who Loved Me. Like many others I felt that Moonraker was great up until the final scenes in space on Drax's space station. That was a little far fetched (even for a bond film) for me, but despite this I did like Moonraker very much. I was glad to see Jaws come back, (although he was a little more menacing to me in TSWLM). I thought that the boat chase in the Amazon jungle was much better then the long-drawn out one in Live and Let Die.

First, Welcome Templar. I must say that your English is much better than mine.

Now, my opinion about MR. I used to like it a lot, but now I tend to find it boring and this feeling grows everytime I watch it. It's the worse Moore film, IMHO.

Moonraker, not a complex story but some great scenes. :)

The Centrifuge trainer.

Doberman scene.

Boat scene.

MR Shuttle flying off Jumbo Jet (clever idea).

Great Soundtrack.

Doberman scene music

Jumbo scene music.
The music we hear after Bond's glider has landed. (That music does something to me.)

Anaconda scene music.

Well said! That scene where Bond follows the blonde into the cave and then feasts his eyes on further babes is a great scene.

Everytime I see it, it makes me wonder how much I want to be Bond - specialized cars, freaky gadgets, adventure and like the gentleman quoted above put it - hottest chicks!@

Amen....I wish they had followed Woods treatment more and kept Jaws as a villain.

There are two nasty moments in MR which counterbalance the humour. First when the Dobermen are set on Corinne. This is primarily Bonds fault as she didn't intentionally help him but Drax thinks she has. Secondly, when those nice young ladies lure Bond into the snake pool, they seem to be getting an evil kick out of watching the snake trying to kill him. Forget about Bride of Jaws etc., it's moments like these that make MR such a good Bond movie.

I agree that these are pretty cool moments, but I don't think they manage to counterbalance the jaw droppingly terrible stuff in the movie such as the Richard Kiel romantic love (stop before I gag) movie.

Not to add to the sour points, but don't forget Jaws flapping his arms and falling into the tent; the dart in the paining's backside; the pigeons doing double takes; the killer being so startled he falls off his boat in Venice.

Wasn't it enough to kill off Chang, but we had to see him upside down in the piano with his underwear showing? The comment would have been enough. It just killed the tension of the fight rather than enhancing it. And lastly the fight in the back of the ambulance that ends up in a comic death.

I also like MR, but those sorts of dopey things keep it from being as memorable as it could have been.

Although MR certainly took the humor too far into slapstick, WIT is what has been missing from the last 3 Bond films. Memo to P&W: Wit is NOT pun after pun said through gritted teeth. I think everyone at Eon needs to stop what they're doing right now and go see Pirates of the Caribbean and get a lesson in how to use intelligent wit within a genre movie to create a truly crowd pleasing experience. It's time to take down the action and the angst and bring back the fun. GE had the mix right -- what happened?

Thank you zencat....I said something similar in the Brosnan forum some time bacl. Its time they brought back the "fun" factor in the 007 series.

I think we've had a whole thread about it in fact. Never hurts to keep saying it. I did sense they were trying to make DAD lighter than the VERY serious TWINE. But I don't think P&W understand Bondian wit as well as they do other aspects of the Bond world. Maybe they need to watch more Moore films. :)

Yes I agree!! :)

They did for True Lies! that has "Roger's Era" thumb print all over it! They have the great Charm.. the HIGH action!.. The one liners.

True Lies showed how to watch a Bond film and do it right! When you want to borrow from Roger but still but your twist on the material.. they did it right!

They mixed a great Roger Blue Print! with a "Arnold film" :)

Great Combo for them :)

us too :)

I'll agree that GE is the last well rounded Bond film. TND goes overboard with the action, TWINE goes overboard with the melodrama, and DAD just goes overboard :)

Doesnt mean I dont like them though, still going to insist that DAD is my favorite Brosnan Bond film :)

TWINE always strikes me as being what a third Dalton Bond might have been and I like it. The Brosnan and Dalton eras seem to unite here. But since Roger left, there is something that has gone from the atmosphere of the films, I don't know exactly what it is, a sort of unspoken connection with the audience, both Moore and Connery had this. Something in their personalities comes over on the big screen. I don't feel this with Dalton or Brosnan. There is a sort of feeling of distance. Maybe it's because I grew up with SC and RM and both TD and PB still seem like the new kids on the block.
