BBC News has just reported that Roger Moore is to be knighted in the Queen's birthday honours.

The knighthood is for his UNICEF work, and long overdue in my opinion.

:)

It seems that Sean Connery is not the only actor to be awarded with knighthood. Another 007 will pickup the "Sir" title as the Queen announces her Birthday Honours.

Moore, who starred in seven movies in Eon productions legendary franchise became the longest serving actor to portray 007. However, his knighthood comes not from contribution to the arts, but instead for Moore's work as Patron and spokesperson for UNICEF.

Raising awareness around the world, Roger Moore has been responsible for many of the charities most recent success stories, and his work has not gone unnoticed. Others set to be awarded include soccer-star David Beckham, who will be honoured with an OBE. Also, comedian Billy Connelly and Sting are to be awarded with CBE's.

It was about time! The Sir title fits him as a glove. I remember I got critized on here once because I had called him Sir Roger ... I guess I had predicted it!

GOD SAVE SIR ROGER!

It's about freaking time! Roger Moore has truly honored the late Audrey Hepburn's memory by doing all that work for UNICEF. That alone should have gotten him knighted long ago.

Besides this, as perhaps the Bond that is most beloved, he has been a wonderful PR ambassador for the UK.

Well done Sir Roger!

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

There has never been a person more deserving. Not only has he worked tirelessly for Unicef but he also has done a great deal of charity work for the Variety Club of Great Britain which helps kids in the UK....

The BBC article quotes Moore as saying: "I only wish my mother and father could have been alive to see this day."

I am sure they are proud of you Roger...

I knew this day would come...

When I was reading about Connery's knighthood at the time that it happened and then happened to read about Roger Moore's vast charity work, I knew he would be knighted also. I'm tickled pink that Roger has received this honor!

Also thrilled to pieces to hear about newly titled Dame Helen Mirren! She's a tremendous actress and this honor is very fitting.

In the words of Xen, about flippin' time. Seriously, though, this is great. I'm so glad that Roger finally got this honour. Congrats, Rog. You more than deserve it. :)

Roger has done more charity work than all the other Bonds combined. I think it's such a great gesture on his part that when he left the Bond role in 1985 he turned his back (largely) on the acting profession and instead used his celebrity status to help those less fortunate than himself.
Only Pierce Brosnan (and his cause of the environment) have come close to Rogers level of love and dedication for other people.

Sorry - that's a really offensive pun

OK, sort of sorry

Anyway, back to the point - chap deserved it years ago for the delivery of the word "kinky" in TMWTGG - still the single most amusing moment of the Bond series - for services to an undervalued word.

But what Roger Moore has been knighted for is plainly more deserving, so well done him.

"Later this year Moore will be asked to kneel before the Queen in a special ceremony where she will place a sword on his shoulders, confirming his knighthood."

That was on the site: http://www.abc.net.a...ems/s879736.htm
