Weak!
Of course it's way too early for a title, but I thought we just might get a casting announcement.

As Nigel Small-Fawcett might say, " Damn...DAMN!! " it appears to have been a false alarm..
He obviously has a highly developed sense of shall we say drama?

Feels a bit samey after the Mediterranean city locations of the last two films.

I guess it won´t look samey.
Also... may the Italian location point towards some Quantum connection again?

Possibly, although, even as much as I'd love for EON to actually continue on with any plot thread from Quantum of Solace, I'd be surprised if Mendes continued on with something from that film. I think that it would be, unfortunately, more likely for him to want to put his own spin on SPECTRE than to bring bring back the organization from the film that nobody seems to like.

It looks as if there is going to be a bit more filmed in Italy than a car chase in Rome.
We can now add Lazio and Campania to the possible Italian locations, with filming in February and March.

Lazio
Campania

According to local media the site of Campania which will host the filming of Bond 24 is Caserta: some scenes of the upcoming film will be shot in the Palatine Chapel in the Royal Palace of Caserta.
Sam Mendes was so impressed by the Palatine Chapel that changed the script to set some scenes of Bond 24 apparently.
A crew of 500 people is expected for filming.
The site has already been used to film Star Wars, Mission Impossible, Angels and Demons.

I'm not sure that it is not a hoax, though : as I have been able to find out , it seems that the news was spread originally from the newspaper "Il Mattino di Napoli", but I found no trace on its website.

PS.: great work Shrublands!

Is that the official Facebook page for the Royal Palace of Caserta? On the 29th September they posted.
+++ Dopo Lucas (Star Wars), Tom Cruise (Missione Impossibile) Tom Hanks (Angeli e Demoni) nella Cappella Palatina della Reggia di Caserta si girerà James Bond con Daniel Craig. Prevista troupe con 500 persone +++
If it is the official page for the palace, I'd bank on this being true.

Unfortunately it's not the official page for the palace, it's a website of local news from Caserta and its region.

Same news about Caserta, but a little tidbit: photo of a production office for B24 in Cinecittà near Rome!

I think we can now consider the news official: the mayor of Caserta, Mr. Del Gaudio, has confirmed that B24 will use the Palatine Chapel as a location.

Fantastic stuff.
Doubt they'll take the same approach, but the Caserta Palace doubled for the Vatican in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III. It looked great though.
This is the Palatine Chapel specifically mentioned in the articles:

if they using Palatine Chapel what could be used for? It could definately be double for something else

By the way, it also doubled for the Vatican in "Angels & Demons". I'd say it's either that or.. villain's residence. Anyway, very interesting news.

I know in the actual story it was set in Sotheby's in London, but I think that location would be good for the auction from 'The Property of a Lady'. They'd obviously have to do something about the alter.

Perhaps the palazzo of Count Baldassarre di Blucampo.

Beautiful, and reminds me of the double o briefing in Thunderball.
I wonder what are the chances they are going their just to reuse the one liner, 'when in Rome'
