Good to hear that Mendes and Co. are putting lots of time, effort and attention into shaping the final draft of the script.. This was something that was not afforded to the producers and Marc Forster on Quantum of Solace due to the writers' strike and it showed. However, I'm starting to get antsy and impatient as to when we'll get our first hints of the locations for Bond 24. Does anyone remember when the stories of Bond shooting in India (for the train fight in Skyfall, which ultimately ended up in Turkey) started popping up? My memory wants to say it was probably about this time in 2012 when we started getting in reports.

I just think it's fantastic how hands-on Mendes is through all of this. It's also reassuring that he recognizes that an excellent script is what matters most, and I'm extremely confident he and Logan can deliver on that front. My guess is the action scenes have been roughly sketched out and they're making minor amendments to the script in lieu of those sequences having more of a shape than they had before. I think location scouting may just be getting under way, and my guess is we'll be getting the first few rumors as to where they will be shooting in a matter of a few weeks. I'm assuming the press conference will take place in October again, so things will be kicking into high gear very soon. Exciting stuff!

Mendes is clearly right on the whole "hole in the boat" analogy.  Hopefully this time around they make sure that there are no holes in the plot/script this time around.

I'm excited to read Mendes being inspired by Craig's theatre work, giving Craig something substantial to chew on to really show off his talent. I have high hopes.

I have a lot of confidence in Mendes´ abilities to draw a magnificent performance from Daniel Craig and to get Logan to create an airtight script.

Then again, Mendes knows exactly how to give great interviews and manipulate the press.  And I don´t know any director who does not want to push actors and writers to deliver their best.

But... "Skyfall" had lots of time to get a perfect script.  It ended up with some obvious contrivances.  And how substantial can Bond´s character be challenged without the story losing the innate Bond feeling?

I hope Mendes and Craig won´t fall into the trap of making Bond too important and dramatic.  There are limits to this, and rightfully so.  The comparison might not be right but I would not want Indiana Jones to dig too deep into his psyche either.

My guess is we'll hear something around the beginning of November as was the case with Skyfall. The casting announcements will coincide with release of the title a year out from the film's release.

Maybe its just me but it seems like they never tire of complementing each other as if their talent is the ultimate power in the universe. These people are great at making news out of nothing, plot holes... Wont there almost certainly be plot holes?...

That seems to be a convention of the movie business, and Mendes in particular is a quintessential "luvvy". He seems to genuinely enjoy the puffy interviews and promotional shmoozing. He's the total opposite of Craig. When Craig is doing promotional interviews, he looks like he'd rather be having another round with the carpet beater.

I haven't been seeing much information lately on the new Bond but I just wanted to get some more stuff going here. Just recently, possibly a few days ago Sam Mendes talked about how seeing Daniel Craig help's him get inspired to work harder on the film. Mendes says that he is working on making the script for Bond 24 to make sure there are no holes in the script and nothing is left. Mendes quoted " For me, so much of it is about script. It's like the building of a bot - once the boat gets on the current, it's gone. If there's a hole in the boat, you're f**ked. So you've got to make sure there's no holes in the boat, and that's what we're doing now."

Mendes also stated he recently saw Daniel in Betrayal and remember how great of an actor he was. He claimed it inspired him to think of other ways to use him. So what do you guys think about the script being put more on notice this time around and what are some new ways Mendes can use Craig? Also include Ralph Fiennes he also stated he is good to use as well.

How come I got my article moved to over here. This thread isn't the same idea as the one that I was bringing up? The information I got was recent this is an old thread.

You mean to say you started a new thread for this? Well, I wouldn't have.

@ SecretAgentFan

Yeah I know I mean I got it around 3am. But this talks about Mendes not merging the films. My article was about how Mendes got inspiration from Daniel's acting? Unless you want this thread to follow under mendes?

The topic was already discussed here - so your post fit in better than standing around lonely in its own thread.

Just realized everyone on these productions is a bit smarter than we get credit for, i mean the whole producer vs. director thing , Mendes clearly showed adeptness with the series so he is gaining leverage in what goes and what stays, in contrast though Tarantino had the wild idea of taking Casino Royale as a period piece if he were to direct while EON clearly did not want and declined him to direct, because -- the series is moving forward and the whole point was the character could feasibly exist as much as possible in our day and age obviously, not going back to a crickety past.

After the Craig era is over it would be an interesting idea to do a one off historical film like Tarantino had in mind. For a one off, you might be able to get a very high profile actor. It was also give audiences a breather from contemporary Bond which I think is helpful in terms of maintaining long term interest in the franchise. I doubt this will happen but I for one would love it.

I think it's a given at some point there will be a period piece. Just as at some point there probably will be a film simply titled 'Bond' or '007'. Tarantino's curse - or blessing maybe? - is just that he came a few years too early with his idea and made it public. Had he kept mum about it and only talked with Broccoli/Wilson in private he might still have a chance doing his thing in the future. Tarantino is only 51 now, he might have twenty years or more of productive time ahead of him still. There could have been a Bond film in that career if he hadn't been too vocal...
