Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in the UK on October 23, 2015 and in the US on November 6, 2015.

SKYFALL the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”

“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes.

Barber added, “We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure.” He added, “As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze.”

Pascal and Lynton said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.”

Got there just before me!

Great news that Mendes is back.

2015 seems quite far away right now, but that extra time should guarantee a great film.

Yeah, I personally would prefer a film between these two with a different director than this long of a wait.  But I also agree that this does give them the time necessary to hopefully deliver on all fronts.

So how sure are we that Roger Deakins and Thomas Newman are returning as well now?

The wait ain't that long, I reckon it'll have a similar production to that of Skyfall. Some early, early stuff this year, with filming set to begin towards the end of next year, and the film will be out by the fall of 2015. With Mendes back, I'm sure Deakins and Newman will be back too.

Good news, along with the release date.  Three years between films is a more realistic time frame to put out quality product.  This will be the first time since Dalton/John Glen that Bond has had directorial continuity between films.

Nice to see this finally cleared up. I was really hoping that we would have a director staying for a while again.

It will be quite a long wait, but for Bond movie it's always worth it of course.

So how sure are we that Roger Deakins and Thomas Newman are returning as well now?

Well, Deakins replaced the late Conrad Hall as Mendes's regular DP (with the exception of AWAY WE GO) and Newman has scored all of his films (again... with the exception of AWAY WE GO). Unless Bond 24 is a low-budget, naval gazing, indie affair, then we're safe to assume that both Roger and Tom will be back.

I did like Newman's score for Skyfall, but admit I love David Arnold's scores and would like to see him back, but I can't see Mendes working without his usual composer.

Great news. Don't forget that by the end of this year, we'll start seeing the casting, details, then comes set stills, and all the good Bond fandom. Can't wait to follow the progress of the next film.

So really, it's only about a half year before we see something of Bond 24, even less time. Didn't Skyfall start filming in November 2012?

2011 is when filming began.

Regarding the release date, It'll have opening on Nov. 6th, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man as it's competition.

Likewise. Sad to think Arnold won't be returning, but Newman will do a good job. And Bond 24 is in very good hands with Mendes :)

Jumping ahead here, but I DO hope they get someone else for Bond 25. The Bond franchise has an underwhelming history when it comes to third outings:

John Glen followed For Your Eyes Only & Octopussy with A VIEW TO A KILL

Lewis Gilbert followed You Only Live Twice & The Spy Who Loved Me with MOONRAKER

Terence Young followed Dr No & From Russia With Love with THUNDERBALL

Guy Hamilton followed Goldfinger & Diamonds Are Forever with LIVE AND LET DIE. Okay, exception to the pattern. But his third-in-a-row film was THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
