Skyfall is one of the 10 films nominated by the PGA, a very good sign that it could have a shot at a Best Picture nom at the Oscars.

Very good news but still have my doubts for Best Picture Oscar nomination due to the fact that the Oscar's don't have to nominate 10 films for best picture.

Why so negative? The Academy has been full of surprises in the past.

I just have a feeling Skyfall has a very low chance of best picture.......the academy seem to like movie that has history and drama feel aka Lincoln and zero dark thirty. I am betting it will be on the list but just dont make in to the top 10.

the PGA could be the one that predict the potential oscar winner! It chooses the artist last year so......... and King speech before so I like the chances

This is very interesting - Scott Feinberg, who has one of the best awards prediction records, currently thinks SKYFALL could get as many as four Oscar nominations. All technical awards, but he also lists Bardem as a serious threat for the best supporting actor category. http://www.hollywood...ctions-8-406092

Interesting breakdown of what's possible - and that 4 predicted nominations does not include best song.

So if Scott Feinberg is correct, we could be looking at 5 nominations or even as many as 6 or 7 with Bardem and other possibilities.

Wouldn't that be incredible?

Remarkable really. When I look back over the last 18 months, and consider all the positive noises which came out about SKYFALL, subsequently leading to our soaring expectations Shrubs - followed by the fact that the movie actually met our heady aspirations - this would be the absolute cherry on the cake. The further news about the PGA nomination has only added to this, and strengthened my resolve about being in the mix for awards season.

The fact that we're actually talking about the possibility of a Bond movie potentially getting a series of Oscar nominations, perhaps even including Best Picture, is absolutely extraordinary, and something that even I couldn't have hoped for.

This is remarkable indeed - if Skyfall ends up at the Oscars, that's a big deal.  Now, there's no way in hell that it will win Best Picture, but the fact that it's there is extremely meaningful, and speaks volumes about Skyfall's quality and the state of film culture.

You're quite right. It's been a great 18 months of conversation, investigation and deduction, toped off with a film that lived up to very high expectations.

A good round of Oscar nominations would be a great big cherry on what has been a delicious cake, coated with billion dollar icing. (that's quite enough cake metaphors Ed.)

I just can't imagine it being nominated for Best Picture.  If ever there were a Bond movie to have a chance it would be Skyfall.  Not only is it a good movie but them throwing the Bond franchise a bone after 50 years doesn't seem completely impossible.

Yeah I agree, I think Skyfall should be nominated, but it won't. Then again, look at Lord of the Rings I mean, it was nominated for Best Picture. So there could be a chance someday that James Bond could be nominated.

Wondering if the announced Bond tribute at the Oscars means SKYFALL is less likely to have received a wide range of nominations. I guess those are unrelated parts of the Academy, but always a chance.

The academy announced this tribute on thursday or friday, before the voting period ended on friday evening. So to this date they don't know how many nominations Skyfall gets. Two guys from PriceWaterhouseCoopers will count the votes now and will reveal the nominees next week.

So one thing (the production of the show) has nothing to do with the other (the nomination process).

Possibly....

And a Best Picture at the Academy Awards nomination?

I do hope so quantumofsolace - just for the acknowledgement, and belief that James Bond isn't totally immune from being acknowledged by the Academy, with a nomination at least. Can't wait for Thursday to see if we've got reason to watch in February...!

A wonderful start for 'Skyfall' in the big awards season with BAFTA - I reckon it has a really top shot at winning all of them, very strong in each with some tough competition.

Each category is one that critics and fans have raved about for the films strong points so I hope to see at least 1/2 wins.

Sadly I think Bardem will have a hard time against Waltz in Django Unchained and Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln

Me too, there some heavy 'Oscar' faves in those BAFTA nominations. Saying that, Bardem is a big award winner too so it could be a close call really.

Have the faith people!

I trust you mean actor, unless I missed something...!  ;)

I hope so too...not long to wait until the big guns are announced! The UK Daily Mail Online have reported with the headline and following:

Skyfall set for triumph at this year's BAFTA awards with Judi Dench and Javier Bardem nominated... but Daniel Craig is left off the list.

Skyfall looks set to triumph at this year's BAFTA awards, with Judi Dench and Javier Bardem both nominated.

While Javier was nominated in the supporting actor category for his role as the villainous Silva, Judi received a nod for supporting actress after reprising her role as M.

But noticeably absent from the nominations was Bond himself, Daniel Craig, as well as the movie's director Sam Mendes.

Skyfall is also nominated for Outstanding British Film and Original Music - a nod to Adele who provided the hit Bond theme of the same name.

article-0-159F3428000005DC-426_634x390.j

The film also picks up nods for Cinematography, Editing, Production Design and Sound.

Among other nominations, Argo, Lincoln and Les Miserables garnered the most nods ahead of the awards on Sunday February 10th.

No, I don't think there is enough VFX in 'Skyfall' that carries the narrative foward, except maybe Silva's disfiguration and work on Skyfall lodge, unlike the big Hollywood giants like Batman, The Hobbit and The Avengers who depend on the use and style of VFX to make characters and the story come to life.

I like the fact it's not nominated for that reason it's not dependant on it enought to count.

Fantastic news, but we shouldn't forget that Casino Royale was nominated for 9 BAFTAs and won only 1, and there was huge critical and industry support for that film as well (particularly after the vicious attacks on Daniel by the tabloid press and internet haters was proved to be wrong). Skyfall seems better placed for some of the categories than CR was (eg cinematography) but I get the sense that BAFTA often think nomination is enough for such explicitly commercial work WON Best Sound NOMINATED Best British Film Best Actor (Daniel Craig) Best Music Best Screenplay - Adapted Best Cinematography Best Production Design Best Visual Effects Best Editing

I somehow feel 'Casino Royale' was riding more of how successful it was for James Bond's return and there was a lot of hype for his return in such a powerful film.

I think 'Skyfall' is riding on the 50th celebrations, but has proved it's technically a better film than 'Casino Royale', with better performances and crew behind the scenes so I hope this is more a factor than 'CR' back with the 1 BAFTA win.

Fantastic news, but we shouldn't forget that Casino Royale was nominated for 9 BAFTAs and won only 1

If you count Eva Green's win for "Best newcomer", then "Casino Royale" won 2 BAFTAs, because Green only did that movie in 2006, so the award was clearly for her performance in CR.
