Eagerly awaiting for this thread to fill up over the weekend courtesy of our wonderful (and lucky!) UK members. As it's unusually quiet on the board for the moment, I'm assuming many of you are occupied by Skyfall as I type this. We all look forward to your yay or nay opinions, hopefully more of the former.

Just got back from my screening and have been blown-away. It feels like classic James Bond, but in touch with today. Excellent.

There's so much going around my head, I need to try think it through and post my thoughts. Basically, every element works - from the settings, the script, the characters and action.

It's easily Daniel Craig's best Bond film but need more watches before I can confidently put it in my ranking of the films.

There is no way James Bond is on his way out.

I can't say if it's the best Bond film yet, I need a few more screenings.

Aside from a fans point of view, I think it's possibly, in general, one of the best James Bond films ever in terms of what it contains, the formula it uses, the acting and the story, I really do think it deserves the praise.

And I can't believe it's the 23rd Bond film...it feels it could be the 3rd of another 50 year run. Fantastic....just FANTASTIC!!!!

Ohhhhh.....I can't wait for the US to see it, SO much I want to discuss with other fans!!

There's nothing on film that's un-neccessary, as people felt about the first act of 'Casino Royale' and the finale, and most of 'Quantum Of Solace', it really flows so well....aghhh, it's great!! There's SO much espionage and tension rather than all out action I was LITERALLY bolt up in my seat watching with so much anticipation how scenes would play out - and the bonus is you can SEE what's happening, rather than choppy, jumpy camera and editing.

Plus Javier Bardem is..., well, I can't find the words for his protrayal as Silva - he's up there with the best. He is SO much fun to watch, but is very menacing, like a needle slowly injecting the film with fear, danger and threat building up and up and up. Plus, he has a trait that is genius - it's haunting and memorable and classic Bond villain...

I agree with you about Adele's theme song, I was also a little let down but not to say its a bad song just a little softer I was expecting.

Went to see Skyfall today with my Son and wife. Awesome. We all loved it. I have long wanted to see a Bond film like this developing the character beyond the sorry days of eybrow raising and clown outfits. Couldnt be happier.

How is Ralph Fiennes? I'm very much anticipating his role.

Brilliant as ever. How he can be hateful and likeable at the same time is still a mistery to me. But he often does that in his roles. A true thespian.

Saw it in IMAX last night and I love it (as did the four others I saw it with). It's very much a Bond film, yet different, new and fresh. Craig proves he's his own Bond - you really can't compare him to what has gone before (I've certainly stopped trying to compare him with Connery). Dench puts in her best performance as M; I don't like her being overused but at least she's used correctly here (and frankly not overused - just heavily used and even that is slightly over stating things, it just works). The girls do fine - Marlohe in particular surprised me with her acting ability; I just wish we'd seen more of her (she's a very classic Bond girl).

Bardem is a fantastic villain; perhaps a bit hammy on one or two occasions, but not excessively so.

The much discussed personal elements (to Bond) that I feared, were in fact not over done. I was worried about this ahead of seeing the film, but I'm content that it was all very appropriate in the context (albeit not strictly necessary).

Regarding the plot, my overall feeling was that this could actually have been based on a Fleming novel - it's that good. The dialogue/monologue is at times brilliant (thank you Logan).

Without spoiling everything, timeline purists may find the final act a bit on the surreal side, but I think it's very cleverly done (albeit something that will no doubt stimulate a lot of discussion over the next year or so). Also, it is that rare thing: a Bond finale that isn't boring and doesn't feel contrived.

This was also a classic Bond in the sense that I felt it would be rather easy to pick the plot a part a bit - question certain plot critical actions etc. But crucially, I don't think that matters at all - the flip side is that it moves with a pace and provides entertainment and that crucial re-watchability.

No doubt Skyfall will enter that elusive pantheon of my top 5(ish) Bond films.

Suffers from some Saturday morning cartoon plotting and could do with having about a quarter of an hour trimmed off (IMHO). Manages to over come its few, but significant, flaws to become an entry the franchise can be justly proud of.

I really don't see it. QoS was highly influenced by the Bourne films, after seeing Skyfall I thought that finally the Bourne comparisons would stop.

Hard to discuss in a non-spoiler thread, but Craig’s early scenes following the titles strongly reminded me of Bourne, as did much of the action (in tone at least).

Well I"m sure its not as noticeable as QOS, I'm not worried about Bourne comparisons anymore, IMO Jeremy Renner is now the American version of Craig and its the other way around.

I think you're doing Fleming a disservice there. There are some gaping holes in the plot of 'Skyfall' - especially regarding Silva - that Fleming certainly wouldn't have written (they're being discussed in another thread).

Now, of course, complaining about plot holes in a Bond movie is usually a pointless exercise. Many of the goofier Bond films have ridiculous plots - so nobody really cares about plausibility. But Skyfall is clearly aiming for a more serious, realistic feel.
