Ooh, I agree with 'Gangster Squad' looking good - Josh Brolin is a pretty decent actor, very likeable I think. A very under-rated genre now, the gangster film, so this does look pretty explosive!

I think I'll try make this my first 2013 film.

I really do want to see Gangster Squad. I wonder if the scene of them shooting through the theater screen will be removed? But my first movie of 2013 will be Zero Dark Thirty.

Yeah that's why the movie was delayed. It was supposed to come out this september 2012, but because of the theater shooting they took the scene out and had to do reshooting so now the movie is coming out early 2013.

That scene was in a GANGSTER SQUAD trailer I saw at the movies recently, so I guess they've kept it in.

Hmm, interesting. I do thought I heard something about it being omitted, but maybe not.

No it was taken out. That's why the movie is released in 2013 instead of 2012.

Well, I think I can cross one off my list for 2013.  A Good Day to Die Hard looks absolutely horrendous.  Are they really even trying at this point?

Were they really trying for Die Hards 2 and 3?

Looks like 'Zero Dark Thirty' opens up close to my area tomorrow! Going to see it tomorrow as long as I'm not busy. Hopefully it makes up for the bummed out day I had today.

I've given up on the 'Die Hard' films now, it's getting out of control from what the original trilogy were about. I could accept 'With A Vengeance' and actually is my favourite one. It doesn't stray too far from the winning formula and is exciting, current, real and funny. 'LFODH' started to become a generic action film, and 'AGDTDH' looks like one even more.

Zero Dark Thirty - 5/5

I'm going to be adding this to my Top Ten 2012 list. I'm posting it this thread as well since the wide release is in 2013.

Ten Years. Two Wars. One Target. Osama Bin Laden.

What a phenomenal film this was. I will say, the wait was worth it. This film is better than 'The Hurt Locker' by a leap year, and it's very powerful. I was amazed at how they were able to cover a whole decade long operation dedicated solely to finding and killing Bin Laden in a 2 hour and 40 minute film. The last 30-45 minutes of the film is easily the best as it's the SEAL Team 6 raid on Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan and from what I've read in books, seen on television, it's 100% accurate. The raid was shot so well too. I really like how we were able to see through some of the SEALs Night Vision POV during this sequence. Very well done.

The whole controversy of the film being pro-torture is despicable. I refuse to share my political views and other governmental views, however when you're interrogating someone who may have information that can lead to the most wanted man alive and torture is the only option, the "No Torture Allowed!" rule just went out the window. It's unfortunate that torture does exist, but in some cases it's the only thing that can work and lead to more information.

Every actor/actress really brought it and shined in the film. For me, Jason Clarke stole the show with his performance and should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. Mark Strong's first scene is fantastic and gripping. Jessica Chastain's character is great, but I just felt she fell flat of capturing it (if that makes sense lol). I really wish they were able to keep their first initial choice, Rooney Mara, because I think she would have done a great job.

I was also surprised at how well Alexandre Desplat's score was. I'll be honest, I hate his scores. I find them generic, boring, and repetitive. I was kind of hesitant and upset he was chosen to score the film. I feel someone like Harry Gregson-Williams or Marco Beltrami would have been a better choice. After listening to some of his score and hearing it in the film, I'm blown away with his score for the film. The score playing on the Stealth Chopper ride to the compound is so hauntingly tense it's brilliant. I would love to see him nominated for Best Original Score at the Academy Awards.

All in all, It was interesting to see a new and fresh war/political/action thriller film that doesn't just take place on the front lines of a battlefield. This film will be remembered and won't be forgotten any time soon.

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

This film opens a Pandora’s boxes of political discussion. Before 911 the U.S. hadn't been attacked on their own soil since the war of 1812. 911 was a horrible tragedy and resulted in the deaths of a few thousand which it turn created two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq killing hundreds of thousands. There were no WMD's, OBL was in another country altogether and they went into Iraq against the authority of the United Nations. All in good fun. ;)

The film was entertaining IMO, felt like a Bourne film meets The Hurtlocker but with Navy Seals. At times the film tries to be emotional at which I can't help but laugh, luckily those scenes didn't drag on. I can’t wait to see this again, the second half of the film feels like to me simply brilliant directing. At over 2 and a half hours long I never felt bored, I was completely bewildered by how well done everything seemed to be. The dialogue alone is worth seeing this film again for IMO.
This film is one of a few films better than Skyfall this year. Kathryn Bigelow should direct Bond 24!!! Bigelow makes Sam Mendes’s Skyfall seem like a direct-to-video film.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really liked this film. I agree with you about Jason Clarke whose character I couldn't stop watching when on screen. I didn't care for Jessica Chastain's character all that much either but another big name might have taken me out of the film, so to speak.

The pacing of the film was superb. I too never felt bored, or tired, just interested in it all the way. I would definitely add Bigelow on the list of future Bond film Directors, because she really showed it with ZDT.

I agree with your views on Clarke and Chastain all the way, so it was a good thing they didn't go with someone like Angelina Jolie or Sandra Bullock to play her character for the reason you stated. That's why I think had Mara stayed on board she would have been great for the film, the only big film she's done is 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', and I think she she could have pulled it off for ZDT.

I'll be going 20-40 minutes out of my way next week (as today is the last day at my local theater) just to see it again.

Really dissapointed the US versions of 'TGWPWF' and 'TGWKTHN' are being pushed back into 2014 at the latest, I watched the Sweedish versions lastnight and fell in love with them more than I ever thought. Really loved them and just made me want to see the US version even more with DC.

Noomi Rapace is a fantastic actress.

I hope we hear developments soon about these.

And 'Gangster Squad' is out today - going to see that next week for some classic B-movie style action! :D

I too really want the US version of the films out. I want to see where Zaillian and (hopefully) Fincher continue to go with the franchise, not to mention More of Craig and Mara in their respective roles.

I think the problem is though that the first movie didn't do so well as they thought that's why the other U.S versions have been pushed back.. :/ and I was reading a review of Gangster Squad and they didn't like it very much.. though I am still going to see it, but I hope it's good.
