I don´t think they will just reprise the 40th anniversary-strategy (which was okay IMO, but it was a different time).

SKYFALL will probably not celebrate the anniversary with in-jokes - but with a terrific film, a mix of old elements and new ones.

Then there will be the documentary, a blu-ray collection and several books on Bond. Probably screenings of the Bond films in select theatres.

And why not? If people don´t want to buy this stuff, then don´t. Some will. It all depends on how much you want to immerse yourself into the celebration.

Me, I´m looking forward to it. 2012 - the Bond year. Wonderful.

Well, where are all those guys who insisted on having a Bond film in the anniversary year in order to celebrate that?

I'm on the fence, but it's got to be a certain "less is more" sort of nod IMO.

I loved the Q Branch scene in DAD. It was just kind of neat to see all the old toys. However the line I liked best was just the simple exchange.

Q: "Your new watch. That'll be your twentieth I believe."

Bond: "How time flies."

For some reason it hit me right.

I wouldn't mind some bit between Bond and M. Maybe some reference to the history of MI6 or the Double-O section being an active part of it "for over Fifty years".

Just thoughts.

Yeah, but Daniel Craig's Bond would probably shoot it.

Mind you, that does mean that the pigeon could do a double-take and say, to camera, "That never happened to the other pigeons...."

I didn't think about this at the time, but TSWLM was the tenth film, on the fifteenth anniversay of the franchise.

Apart from rehashing YOLT (and better, in some ways), the only nod to its predecessors was to pack the film with veteran actors in new roles. That's the way to acknowledge a milestone.

TLD didn't even do that on the 25th. As mentioned in an earlier post, EON simply made the best film they could, discretly rebooting the series in the process.

Like Moore, Craig is making his third appearance on a significant anniversary. We've been promised a 'classic' Bond, with some surprise character appearances. That alone should be enough.

I hope they won't ignore the 50th Anniversary. It will be the franchise;s lost IF they do. Just look all those Star Trek fan out there and what they get in the marking of stuff. they still have the comic books and so on. Now in the comic books they get the option of some time seeing the Chris Pine Capt. Kirk and sometime the William Shatner Capt. Kirk. Of courser not Much of the red color movie uniform. Here in the U.S. there are not much Bond stuff there are no monthly comic book or a four or six issue graphic novel, nonsport cards, action figures, key chains, t-shirts, bubble heads, shot glass, toy cars and so on. Just the last Star Trek movie they had a lot of stuff out in the market in stores like FYE and now closed Suncoast own by the company that ownes FYE. Even Disney do their own Anniversay at the which ever theme park. when it was Walt Disney's 100th birthday they had a celeabration. I don't know was it at every park. But there was nothing special being sold at Target, Costco, Walmart, Best Buy, ToysRUs or Sears. Maybe only at the parks. We bond fans should be able to have something big like what Disney fans(which I'm also) and them Star Trek also get. HELL THETY HAVE STUFF OUT IN THE MARKET EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO ANNIVERSARY AT ALL OR A NEW MOVIE OUT. THAT GOES THE SAME FOR STAR WARS ALSO.

Let's put it another way, if Eon is willing to milk Goldeneye wii/Goldneye Reloaded for two years, than they are going to milk the 50th anniversary.....as they SHOULD!!!

Jim's comment on the 25th Anniversary of The Living Daylights made me think of something. They are making a documentary so I wonder if Sir Roger Moore will do a documentary ala Happy Anniversary 007 for 25 years. Or why not Brosnan? Would be great to see that.

Not as the primary theme, but through subtle backgrounds (somehing like Dr No's hand, the orient express, the golden girl, a harpoon, a volcano, a bride - preferably all replaced by something more original in the actual sequence). Importantly it would be in the background, not distracting from whatever theme the actual sequence has and its relation to the film itself.

JAMES BOND actor Daniel Craig has been offered a multi-million pound deal to become the ­longest serving 007 of all time.

It would see Craig, 43, star in EIGHT of the spy flicks – one more than Roger Moore, whose seven appearances spanned 12 years.

Legendary Bond producer Michael G Wilson said: “Daniel’s been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a ­terrific man. The fans love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part.”

Chester-born Craig, below, is currently shooting Skyfall, his third Bond film. And in an ­exclusive interview with The People, Wilson told how he would love him to do five more.

He said: “It’s certainly something we’ll be ­discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall.

“Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he’s a film maker’s dream.

“A lot of people have said Daniel’s been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can’t argue with them. He’s doing a great job.”

Although Wilson did not reveal ­financial details, it is thought that any future appearances would each earn Craig more than the £8million he is ­reportedly being paid for Skyfall.

Casino Royale, his Bond debut movie, took over £300million at the box office to become the most profitable 007 film in history. Wilson, whose stepfather Cubby Broccoli started the film franchise in 1962, said fans were in for a treat with Craig’s appearance in Skyfall – comparing it to the finest work of iconic Bond Connery who made six official Bond films.

The 69-year-old New Yorker said: “The director Sam Mendes and Daniel are taking it back to a 60s feel – more Sean. I think that’s what the fans wanted. Wilson has been producer or executive producer on 13 Bond flicks and is now co-producer with his ­step- sister Barbara Broccoli. Speaking at last Monday’s premiere of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which stars Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, he said there are big plans to mark the Bond films’ 50th ­anniversary in 2012.

Several events are set to coincide with Skyfall’s release next winter, including an extravaganza featuring all the actors to have officially played the spy. They are Connery, 81, George Lazenby, 72, Moore, 84, Timothy Dalton, 65, Pierce Brosnan, 58, and Craig.

Wilson said: “We’d really like to get all six together. We’re trying to find a way for fans to celebrate with us ­because they’ve been the reason the Bond films have been the success they have.”

One plan is to open up Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Wilson said: “We’re looking at ways to show off sets from the latest film, as well as props and perhaps give movie master classes for film fans.

“At the moment these are just ideas so you’ll have to wait and see. Whatever happens it will be a special year for Bond fans.”

I absolutely adore Craig as Bond, but I don't think forcing him to do 5 more Bond films (after Skyfall) is necessarily the best idea... I mean, look at Roger Moore in Octopussy and AVTAK.

Bond pushing 50 is very dangerous territory, but I guess there's a good chance that if anyone these days could pull it off it would be Craig. The alternative way to view this would be the potential for getting a few years with a Bond film each year or filming two or more Bond films at once a la Back to the Future or Lord of the Rings (if a good direct sequel idea could be hatched) which has me kind of exited now!

(obviously the downside of the multiple films at once would be the Matrix sequels... but I'm trying to think positively)

Much as I love Craig, keeping him on for five more films doesn't necessarily sound like the best of ideas unless they start shooting them back-to-back. Although this story is coming from the same paper that pulled an interview with Judas 2.0 out of their so I'll believe it when I see confirmation elsewhere.

I hope they go all out in terms of merchandise and that all the films will be on Blu Ray as well as updating them with new extras if that is possible.
This is a big anniversary deal I think but not everone here seems to think that.
The golden anniversary does mean something a little extra and I hope they do it justice.
As far as the new film I dont think they should do any reference material at all.
Just make it the best Craig Bond so far and not to edit it too fast.

Sounds like the anniversary celebration will focus around events outside the film, but around the release (publicity - yay!). I like the idea of getting all of them together. Lazenby will show up for a fiver, Moore and Dalton will be happy to. Craig is being paid to, so doesn't really have a choice. Not so sure about Connery and Brozzers, tho.

Not really that was only the 5th film it appeared in (Goldfinger, Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies are the previous ones) The Omega Sea master's watch has appeared in more films! Its appearance in the film was very much a reference to the previous films as his acquiring it was meant to show him become more like "the Classic Bond"
And its very clear that they are not ignoring the anniversary (all this talk about Skyfall being "a classic Bond" return of Q and possibly Moneypenny) It may not be the Die Another Day style tribute but maybe more like The Living Daylights (the return to Fleming/ early film roots, the return to an Aston Martin for the first time since OHMSS and little lines like M telling Bond that '008 could replace him' were all acknowledged as being tributes to the series history but not in the over the top style of Die Another Day)

You got to wonder If there are merchandise, what will there be. Of course there has to be the Blu-Rays, but what other stuff and will it also be sold in the U.S. or just the U.K.. Since The World Is Not Enough, there have NOT been a Bond movie magazine from Starlog, it just like they did not have one for Licence To Kill. IF not Starlog will some other movi magazine company release one. Surly DK Publishing will update their Bond books.

Yes, it was a direct reference to Goldfinger, because Bond clearly describes it as a 1964 Aston Martin.

They crammed in as many references in DAD and many of them were as subtle as a hammer to the head
