The plot about M sounds a bit TWINE-ish.

And the film's being shot in Istanbul..and Berenice Marlohe looks a lot like Elektra King ;)

"As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat"

This sounds great. Alludes to some spy-work and I would love for MI6 to be the actual target and Bond saving them.

Agreed. I love tragedy in movies that are based really close to home. Somewhere you thought you felt safe. The Battle of Hogwarts is a great example of this. So's the VR scene in Die Another Day. Also, something else I love with established characters confined to small roles suddenly fighting for their lives. Think Maggie Smith in Deathly Hallows Part Two. Brilliant stuff.

Yes, once again "it's personal", but c'mon, this plot has potential. I'm sure any problem any of you might've had with TWINE had little to do with the idea of making M an integral part of the plot, and a lot to do with the execution of said idea. Until the release of this film, there's little to be worried about and much to be excited about, if you are a Bond fan.

Skyfall. I like writing that, hehe.

Interesting how so many of the rumors we have heard over the last few months have turned out to be correct.

It is isn't it. I think the producers intended stuff to be leaked. I feel that after so long, they wanted to create as much hype as possible, and it worked. The only thing I feel that they were upset about getting out was the title. The 'worst kept secret in the whole of London.'

With what we heard today about 'Skyfall' being emotionally linked to something in the film, and the synopsis about M's past, I think that during the film either Judi Dench's M is killed or taken off duty, rocking MI6 and maybe leading to even more of a character development tool for Bond, but also maybe scaring Eve (Harris) off duty to becoming a secretary, aka Miss Moneypenny.

I think Judi Dench's M is now in her final film in a story that could shock as well as deliver the suspense and twists like 'Casino Royale'. Albert Finney is drafted in as the new M for Daniel Craig, be it for just this film until the MOD appoint a new Head, or simply like Bernard Lee did, appear for a few minutes of the films and then be done.

I doubt Finney will be the new M. He is only 2 years younger than Dench so i don't think they plan to use him for several films.

Maybe she will have to go down in the shade for a while and he will replace her?

Or M comes under suspicion and while 007 is investigating Finney starts incompetently revamping MI6 until 007 exposes Finney as a higher-up in Quantum?

Or Finney is M's husband/lover and turns out to be a higher-up in Quantum (an idea I proposed once before).

I know, Mendez said Quantum isn't in this film, but still...

Seeing as now we're looking at "M's past"...is Helen McCrory playing a younger M in flashbacks? I'm looking at photos of her now and I see a definite resemblance to Judi.

"If you're a Bond fan," [Ralph] Fiennes told me when I confessed my 007 obsession, "then you'll be happy. I can tell you that John Logan has written a fantastic screenplay and [director] Sam Mendes is a class act. They're doing something quite special I think. I think they're going to be great for Bond."

Interesting. Just read this on Digital Spy. Very reliable source.

"Skyfall will see Bond at loggerheads with his boss M (Judi Dench) as a figure from her past emerges."

Now, to me, this sounds like someone emerges, not something. Someone from her past? Fiennes? Finney?

Well certainly age-wise, Finney would fit that bill. I don't see how Fiennes could play a present day figure from her past, unless she used to babysit him.

Well how old is Fiennes? 50-ish? Nothing says she was young when she knew him. If we take Fiennes' character as being roughly around the same age as his actor, if she knew him when he was in his 20s/30s that places it anywhere from the mid/late-80s onward, which still allows for the Cold War theory, and that may not even be the case. It could be she knew this person ca. 2001, although that certainly seems unlikely.

Possibly! Fiennes as an-ex 00 agent? Presumed dead after 'Operation Skyfall' failed, but has now returned to exact his revenge? (Sounds all a bit Trevelyan/Goldeneye, I know, but the personal angle against M would make it a bit different).

How about this: Fiennes *WAS* 007 prior to Craig/Bond taking over the number at the start of CR. He did a personal favor mission for M (possibly like the FYEO short story), but it went bad, '007' was believed to be killed, and M covered it up to protect herself. This would even tie in to some CR dialogue : "I knew it was too early to promote you (because we had a perfectly good 007)" and "I understand 00s have a short life expectancy" (Bond knows damn well what happened to his predecessor).

Thanks, very interesting interview. I like this bit too...

“…this (Skyfall) is just a great piece of screenwriting and the human drama at the centre of this is quite affecting. And it's full of amazing stunts and action sequences."

The line about the affecting human drama at the center is really intriguing, especially as a sort of off the cuff remark as this seems to be. I've never heard anyone regard a Bond film like that (I'm sure someone will either correct me or say it's just PR, but I think he means it). This is really exciting. I'm really curious about what they have in store here. The relaxation of the press conference and all of the positive word surrounding Logan's script bode very well indeed.

In light of the fact that Fiennes is an avowed fan of the Bond novels, one of his comments is very interesting:

Will he get to join in on the stunts and action sequences? Fiennes took a long pause. "I can't answer that question," he said. "I don't get laid, that's for sure." That might be a clue, or it might not be.

Now, if you're only familiar with the cinematic Blofeld, that won't ring any bells. But a literary fan will recall the fifth chapter of Thunderball, where it says about Blofeld, "He didn't smoke or drink and he had never been known to sleep with a member of either sex." I still have my doubts, but that comment really makes me wonder. Could Fiennes be signalling to Fleming fans that the rumor is true?

Hmm, I think that's reaching a little bit. I think its certainly a clue that he IS involved in the action in some way. Maybe he's letting us know that his character has no genitalia? Let the "Fiennes plays a robot" rumors begin!

When was the last time a Bond villain had sex on-screen? Elektra did, but only because she needed to be close to Bond.

I'm not adverse to another Bond movie that's deeply personal to Bond. That said...

I would like another Bond more like Dr. No one of these days. Just a straight up thriller involving Bond finding the threat and going through hell to destroy it. Isn't that what the OO section is for? I guess I'm just tired of how everything has to be all "This time it's personal." You know?
