Bond's two main opponents in this film could be called very slow and foxy.

Another hint: It's not about the personal characteristics of the characters.

"Bond, reviewing the guesses so far, murmured to himself, 'What's in a name?' and sauntered out of the room."

Your guess isn't correct but is headed in the right direction.

James Bond, who enjoyed puns and was also fluent in Italian, might have said of the two main villains in this film, "I suppose I should call you 'Very Slow' and 'Fox,' shouldn't I?"

I just have no clue

Fox in Italian is Volpe

And "Largo" means very slow.
That was obviously way harder than I thought it was. You never know.
Congrats, jaguar! Your turn!

"My partners have accompanied 007 on his missions before, now it is my turn"
clue: This characters "previous partners" were not actually this person's partners in a James Bond film

Patric Macnee? Diana Rigg and Joanna Lumley both played his partners, and both were in OHMSS before he was in AVTAK.
You forgot that Honor Blackman was also Macnee's partner in The Avengers before she took off to film Goldfinger (and make way for Diana Rigg).
YES!!!
WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!
over to you MajorB!

Excellent clue, jaguar! I hope I can live up to your high standards. Let's see:
Bond visits three islands in this film, though one of them is very very tiny.

Deviousness wins! Exactly right, trs! A tip of the white top hat to you! ("trs. Only trs.")
Your turn...
I feel I should reply with a Goldeneye-modified response of my own, but alas, not to be. Next puzzle:
This was one cut scene that still made the finished print.

Tomorrow Never Dies is the first film to spring to mind, what with the "They'll print anything these days" moment.
Seems a bit too easy for it to be TND though...

Indeed and yes, incorrect.
Current puzzle: This was one cut scene that still made the finished print.

On a chance that "finished print" is at least partly a red herring, could it be the scene in LALD where Kananga cuts Bond's arm (with a better-than-average blood-emitting-knife effect)?
An excellent guess, but not what I had in mind.
