I think AWTD alienated a lot of moviegoers, myself included.

I think it's fine- it'd be better if they didn't try to push it as 'the rejected song', but it's a very decent fan effort.

I'll agree with that. It gives the title sequence more momentum than AWTD (and frankly, I think the song was created with the title sequence in mind, given how well everything syncs up - I suspect this wasn't some "rejected song," really)....somehow this song makes the title sequence actually look pretty good!

Edit: having read the comments on the video, this was simply an amateur attempt at a theme tune which the artist sent into EON. They probably receive dozens of such tunes for each movie.

But as Vauxhall said, they wouldn't go with an unknown artist.
And in my opinion, lacks some Bond-ish style.

You are sooooo right! Wonder why they did not use it? And who is doing the singing? It sounds like Dame Shirley to me!OMG I FOUND THE UNUSED QUANTUM OF SOLACE THEME!

If you actually bothered to read the thread, you'll find out why:You are sooooo right! Wonder why they did not use it? And who is doing the singing? It sounds like Dame Shirley to me!
1) It's unsolicited. We have no idea who sung it, and when was the last time an unknown artist landed a Bond theme?
2) It isn't even original. Most of the lyrics are just lines repeated from CASINO ROYALE.
3) It doesn't go anywhere. Instead of actually trying to be a theme to fit the film the way Anoter Way To Die does, it's just a throwback to the days of Shirley Bassey.
4) It's probably fan made, and doesn't at all fit the tone of the film.

This posting as well as the song and its accompanying get my coveted "Seal of Approval for BullS.". This is a fan song, like all the other amateurish "unused themes" that pop up. Do not be fooled, you've been warned. Spread the word before it gets out of hand.
So warned. Cheers, Cat.
Still, I like it and it highlights to me how bad AWTD really is when an amateur's effort is way better than the professionally commissioned job. It's maybe just the Bassey-esque sound influencing me.
BTW ocwolf68, the movie wasn't rejected.

So I take it you want a tired old song about Bond from the point of view of his lover the way GOLDENEYE, TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and almost every other theme was? A throwback to the days of Dame Shirley that while nice as a forced death march down memory lane, is an ultimately disposable song tha won't be remembered for years to come? At least the likes of YOU KNOW MY NAME and ANOTHER WAY TO DIE tried to be orginal and follow a lyrical theme, like the risks associated with being a Double-Oh Agent (Cornell) or the need for Bond not to trust or rely upon anyone but himself (White/Keys). That fan-theme does not suit QUANTUM OF SOLACE as it doesn't reflect what happens in the film; rather, it tries to pass exposition in the form of dialogue from CASINO ROAYLE off as being meta-referential, and it's exceptionally awkward.the song for bond23 should be in the veins of this . but much more refined. extra style added
See, Dame Shirley is like Michael Jackson's BILLIE JEAN: she's uncoverable. I have never heard a cover of BILLIE JEAN that could be said to be any good; the closest I've come was Chris Cornell giving it the Leonard Cohen treatment, but there was still light years between it and Jackson's original version. Dame Shirley is the same: you can't make a Bond theme the way she did without it being obvious that you're trying to be Dame Shirley.

This song should indeed have its own separate peddle-bin....
