It's easy to see why "Another Way to Die" was chosen over this (if indeed this song was ever actually in the running). For one thing, AWTD is a lot more original.
As our very own Zorin might say, this song sounds like a fan's (dirty word, fan) idea of what a Bond song should be like and not Eon's.

I agree. Almost every other line of the song is taken directly from CASINO ROYALE: "I have no armour left", "No soul left to salvage" and "Whatever I am, I'm yours" to name a few. While a lot of people hate it, I think Another Way to Die works really well because it captures the essence of the film: it's a little erratic, it's dirty in places, and the lyrics go beyond the usual theme of being written from the point-of-view of a Bond Girl and start exploring the concept of Bond's world and the underlying theme of him having to rely solely on himself. Not bad, but it sounds like someone was trying to write a standard-issue Bond theme song. There's no originality to it whatsoever. The chorus is rather weak - sounds a little like "Surrender" from TOMORROW NEVER DIES, but not as good.

This, on the other hand, is simply trying very hard to be a repeat of Dame Shirley's Bond themes. It's kind of like Clive Owen's latest string of films, where he's quite clearly trying to be Daniel Craig. The song just regurgitates dialogue from the previous film, and while it doesn't help that it doesn't match the on-screen images, it doesn't really offer anything but a throwback to the days of old, hoping to capitalise on their success.
That said, I think this was actually performed by someone as opposed to being plucked off the internet or recorded in a bedroom. It's got a prety high production quality, and the lyrics suggest it was written with QUANTUM OF SOLACE in mind. It may have been a genuine entry, but as was stated, it's pretty obvious that this song was probably dismissed straight away.

Quite. "Another Way to Die" does, at least, attempt to be about something. It tries to match a particular film.
This, however, is a fannish Bassey wannabe that might as well have been written for any of the Brosnan flicks. It really is quite desperately unoriginal.

I really thought this was the undiscovered, unused, proper theme song for THE QUANTUM OF THE SOLACE-aaah.
After all, it sounds exactly like a Bond song with Burly Chassis singing, brass stabs, dangerous stranger lyrics, premiering on You Tube, anonymous artist and conveniently written for the title sequence. Oh, and it's much much more fannish than the eventual song written which was, let's face it, far too original and contemporary to be Bond!

Although it's far more musically cohesive than AWTD.

A million times better than AWTD, but that doesn't say much.

It's not even that aware of itself. It just thinks a Bassey clone and a bit of bombast makes a superior Bond tune.Sixties vocals, but very eighties backing track.Oh dear god, the eighties strike back!

Let's leave it to the filmmakers to source the 007 music providers.
I've got two words for the creators of this - creme brulee.....(one for THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMAN fans amongst our fraternity).

"Goose, it's Cougar"
"Merlin, what's up?"
etc.
Actually, it's very "world pop" ish, like the 1988 Seoul olympics music meets the theme tune from Mysterious Cities of Gold via Shakira.
AWTD is still a very poor song though (in my opinion), although I think it's intentions were splendid.
