My girlfriend, although a big film fan, is not really into Bond. She went to see Casino Royale a) to see what all the fuss was about and :( because of Daniel Craig. She enjoyed it so much she subsequently bought the dvd, explaining that she enjoyed the whole Bond/Vesper story and, at times, "managed to forget" it was a James Bond film.

We went to see Quantum of Solace. This time she enjoyed it far less as it was "more like a traditional Bond movie"... so a bit of a back-handed compliment I guess!!!

I overheard people saying it was too violent, too confusing and, while ok, was not a patch on Casino Royale.

This is probably just me being a humourless git, but how did you know they were Moore fans?

I either knew them already, spoke to them briefly before or after seeing the film... or they were wearing their Roger Moore eyebrows and detachable mole. :(

But seriously, in my experience, one of the first things people mention when discussing Bond is who their favorite actor in the role was. Then again, some of the people I know who most loved CR cite TSWLM as their favorite Bond film, so maybe Moore fans are just a diverse lot. :)

Well, of course. I love Roger as Bond, and I love Daniel. And Sir Roger says in his book how much he enjoyed CR and he couldn't understand the bad media Daniel got when he first got the role.

A friend of mine actually liked it; then again, he liked Oldboy, as well... :(

Enough said. Thank you for the dots!

Some comments that I can remember (More or less) from friends and family.

- That wasn't as good as Casino Royale
- Too much action
- Daniel Craig is still cool as Bond(Male) Sexy (Female)
- Its like one action scene ends and another one begins
- Where's the fun gone ?
- That was nice and edgy
- I love the more intense, Bourne like action.
- What was the plot again ?
- No Q and Moneypenny in this one as well.
- No gadgets again, when are they going to bring them back.
- That Car(Aston Martin) was cool

Brother:
"Better than The Dark Knight."

Friend:
"Terrible movie. He didn't even say "Bond, James Bond" once."

Friend:
"Good movie. Not as good as Casino Royale."

Friend:
"Awesome. So glad they're out of the crap they were in back with DAD."

Friend:
"Did Elvis' pants fly off before he blew up?"

This is a common issue. The thing is I know what people mean, but at the same time, it's high time for some serious Bond movies. Maybe the next actor to play 007 will have more "fun" movies?

It all goes to show: you can´t please everyone. So don´t even try. Stick to your own ideas as guidance.

And that´s what EON thankfully does.

Judging from what the current actor has said I think he'll be making a 'fun' movie next time.

I don't imagine that the humour will be drastically different from that of the last 2 movies. I don't want them to change the tone of this great new era. Maybe, as someone else has suggested, 007 will be enjoying himself a little more in the next one.

After one screening yesterday, I overheard an exchange the strange couple I sat behind were having about their awkward teenage son -

Mother asked son: Do you like that guy? (Daniel Craig)
Father: He thinks he can take him.
Mother: I think so, too.

The father was also confused by things in QoS because he hadn't seen CR. "Guess I should've seen the first one."

One of my friends at uni said he loved the edgy feeling Quatum Of Solace has. He said that after Casino Royale, it's his favourite Bond film. He's not a huge Bond fan, but he said Craig's turned him into one!

Among casual movie goers (family and non-Bond-fanatic friends), I finding just about everyone was put off by the close in quick cut action. Any conversation about the movie stops dead at their initial, "I just couldn't tell what was happening."

I sometimes couldn't tell what was happening. But I was wondering if that was the point.

A friend came to complain with me like if I hired Daniel Craig! 'Your Quantum movie sucks! there's no plot, and this james bond is awful, pierce brosnan was like a dream and this guy is nothing exotic!'

I lol'd.

It's a complaint I don't get it, because I found QoS to be one of the most fun Bond movies, and certainly the most fun movie of the year. I also consider it one of the funniest.

I think many people confuse "fun" with "doesn't suit my individual preference for lighthearted fantasy." Just because it's relatively dark and semi-realistic doesn't mean there isn't humor or it isn't escapist adventure. It provides endless thrills, suspense, and a sense of wonder... which I considered "fun" last time I rode a roller coaster.
