Favourite Bond film: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE or CASINO ROYALE

Least favourite Bond film: A VIEW TO A KILL or DIE ANOTHER DAY

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 2

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: About the same.

Most memorable moment: Bond at the opera.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Any scene between Bond and Mathis.

Which part of the film interested you least?:

What surprised you most about the film?: How confusing many others thought it was.

Most amusing scene in the film: Bond changing hotels.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Bond getting drunk on the plane.

The film's biggest strengths: It's unapologetically different from what we've seen before.

The film's greatest flaws: I would have liked one or two more scenes with Mathis. Don't know if that's a flaw though.

Additional comments: QOS feels like the sort of 'quick and dirty' mission that we're used to seeing Bond just finishing in the teaser (in the movies) or reflecting on (in the books). Very important to Bond's development as an agent and human being, seemingly less so in terms of the villain's grand scheme or plot of the story.

I've no idea if the filmmaker's planned it that way, but I think it was tremendously ballsy to do it. I think the movie works best as the second half of a double feature with CASINO ROYALE.

Favourite Bond film: From Russia With Love

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): From Russia With Love

Least favourite Bond film: Licence to Kill

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 3.5

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 3 times

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: It was about what I expected.

Most memorable moment: Bond explaining to Corinne that Yusef is just using her for information. Her very quiet "thank you" as she leaves the room with her head down was the perfect end to that exchange.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The opening car chase.

Which part of the film interested you least?: The airplane chase/free fall scene.

What surprised you most about the film?:
The death of Mathis. I managed to stay spoiler free before seeing the movie so this one was a shocker to me.

Most amusing scene in the film: Toss-up between teachers on sabbatical winning the lottery & Bond dropping Camille off after she got "seasick." :(

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Bond dropping in to see Mathis at his villa to ask for his help.

The film's biggest strengths: Craig put in another strong acting performance.

The film's greatest flaws:
The editing cuts were too quick in places, most notably the Tosca scene chase through the restaurant intercut with the opera.

Additional comments: It's about time MGM updated their opening logo so it's in high def! Also, while I really missed the gunbarrel at the beginning of the film, the opening car chase & Arnold's music for it were perfect.

Favourite Bond film: The Spy That Loves Me

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): Why again you ask? The Spy That Loves Me

Least favourite Bond film: Cossino Royal/Quantom Of Solace - both bad, not really Bond films. I have sorry for this but is what I have think.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 0.07

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 1

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Well, I don't like Dancial Craig but the worse als I expected.

Most memorable moment: Joke of lottery winnings

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Kissing Agent Fielding.

Which part of the film interested you least?: Car chase, titles, music, action, story - the all of this.

What surprised you most about the film?: How speed the cutting was is! Zo fast, no?

Most amusing scene in the film: The hotel lottery winnings scene - so funny.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: I have not read much of the books but say the bit where Bond is in the plane getting drunk. This is straight from the novel.

The film's biggest strengths: Well, I like the action in Sienna. And parachute jump.

The film's greatest flaws: Dancial Craig - he is a thug Bond, no klass, no Bond theme, no gunbarrel at the beginning, no descent title song (why ken they not get back to Shirley Bassey - she could so such god job), no Moneypenny, Q, gadgets, humour - just some Roger Moore humour, please. At the end, Bond is not doing the girl Camille. He should be and then caught by M! This would have humour, no?

Additional comments: Bond must be Bond in movies. Not other thing - so Bourne. This is no of right. Is is wrong so for to ask for Bond to be the back? I agree with this person here -

Favourite Bond film: Goldfinger

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): On Her Majesty's Secret Service or Casino Royale

Least favourite Bond film: Octopussy

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 5

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 5

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: About the same

Most memorable moment: Rope fight, calmly waiting for Slate to bleed out, the death of Mathis, personal kill tutorial, "I never left."

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Anything featuring Mathis or Leiter

Which part of the film interested you least?: Title sequence

What surprised you most about the film?: The quickness of the editing, the death of Mathis, the level of negativity from fans

Most amusing scene in the film: Mathis trying to talk on the phone at the same time as the taxi driver is rambling.
"I'd rather stay in a morgue."
I'm also amused by how Craig is always casually tossing things aside, even entering his hotel suite and throwing his keys across the room.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: "The villains and the heroes get all mixed up."

The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig and the acting from everyone else involved.

The film's greatest flaws: The editing of the action sequences was quite jarring upon first viewing.

Additional comments: QoS is fantastic. Top 4 with a bullet.

Favourite Bond film: LICENCE TO KILL

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): GOLDFINGER

Least favourite Bond film: A VIEW TO A KILL

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4.5

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: Twice.

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Better.

Most memorable moment: Bond popping open the DBS's trunk to reveal Mr. White inside, flipping the stalker off his motorcycle, Mathis' death.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Everything from the moment Bond discovers Fields' oil-drowned body to the closing gunbarrel was sheer perfection. :(

Which part of the film interested you least?: While the airplane sequence was well-done, it went on a bit too long as it had quite an easily-predicted ending.

What surprised you most about the film?: The overall tone and feel of the film sets it apart from any Bond film before it. This is why I find it difficult to compare it to the others.

Most amusing scene in the film: Elvis tripping down the stone staircase and Fields' "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!"

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Bond killing Slate.

The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig as James Bond, a totally unique look and feel to the film, two absolutely beautiful female leads and a refreshingly textured score by David Arnold.

The film's greatest flaws: The pacing, especially early on, very little character development for Dominic Greene and Fields, and the DC-3 dogfight may have gone on a bit too long, as well.

Additional comments: A genuinely unique Bond film whose director chose to make some very bold creative choices which may not sit well with everyone, but they do with me.

Favourite Bond film: Casino Royale
Best Bond film: Casino Royale
Least favourite Bond film: Die Another Day
QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4.5
How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 1
Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Better than expected.
Most memorable moment: The Tosca sequence. Dreamlike and wonderfully bizarre.
Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The "attack" on the desert hotel.
Which part of the film interested you least?: Rooftop chase.
What surprised you most about the film?: The pace of the film. My heart never stopped pounding (and that's only a very slight exaggeration).
Most amusing scene in the film: The hotel switch. This got a big laugh from the audience.
Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Bond giving Camille advice on how to take a life.
The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig. The serious tone. The visceral nature of the action sequences and the overall "sweep" of the film. Some very nice, subtle character moments.
The film's greatest flaws: The frantic editing during the action scenes. Those sequences really, really pulled me in, but I would have liked a bit more coherence, scope and scenic composition.
Additional comments: What a compelling, strange, freaky, wonderful ride this was.

Is all I can say is well done EON for a fantastic Bond movie. I've just got back from the cinema and I rate it 10 out of 10.

Simply put I haven't enjoyed Bond so much since the Connery days!

Craig is smashing as is the film!

Favourite Bond film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Least favourite Bond film: A View to a Kill

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: Once

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: About the same.

Most memorable moment: Opera sequence, Bond cradling Mathis as he dies.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The end sequences – Bond escaping from MI6 men, the assault on eco hotel, Bond confronting Yusef, meeting M outside in the snow, cue gun barrel.

Which part of the film interested you least?: I suppose the dogfight and freefall. I’m not sure if the freefall is suited to a Craig film, but they pulled it off good enough.

What surprised you most about the film?: How brave the Bond team are to put work out like this. I’m glad they did. They’ve come a long way. I liked Dominic Greene too. After hearing about apparent limited screen time, I think it was just about perfect.

Most amusing scene in the film: A supremely confident and casual Bond throwing Greene motor oil.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Bond after downing six Vesper martinis.

The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig’s performance, the taut unfolding plot, beautifully shot locations, the title cards. The run time is about perfect - any longer would have been too much.

The film's greatest flaws: I’d have Bond spending more time with Fields. And maybe remove one or two action sequences and add a little bit more dialogue. I thought the action was quite good, though. Not up to Casino Royale’s standard, but still decent.

Favourite Bond film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Best Bond film: I would call Thunderball the quintessential one.

Least favourite Bond film: Die Another Day

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: As Bond films go, a fairly nondescript 3.

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 3

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Not quite as good as I might have been hoping, but about as good as I expected.

Most memorable moment: The confrontation at the Andean Grand Hotel. The final shot gets an honourable mention as well.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Roughly the mid third I would say, from the build up at the Opera on culminating with the face off with Greene at the fundraising party.

Which part of the film interested you least?: The action scenes in general. The aerial dog fight in particular, the Mitchell and boat chases being somewhat less tiresome.

What surprised you most about the film?: The unexpected homage to Charles K. Feldman’s Casino Royale. I trust that was what the exchange about Mathis’ covert name was all about?

Most amusing scene in the film: Bond’s sole line in the pre-title sequence also seems to be the most amusing one.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Some of Mathis’ lines aside, for some reason Bond’s arrival in Port au Prince made me think of the Savannah La Mar sequence in The Man with the Golden Gun. His surveillance of Greene’s warehouse, the dialogue with Leiter and the confrontation with Yusef also pulls some strings.

The film's biggest strengths: The cast ranks among the series’ finest. Some beautifully composed passages such as the brief interrogation scene and the Bregenz sequence. Arnold’s score works very well from time to time.

The film's greatest flaws: Sketchy scriptwriting, peculiar pacing with plentiful of less than involving action scenes. Some memorable quotes do not quite compensate the generally stilted, exposition heavy dialogue. The strangely unaffecting, fiery finale.

Additional comments: In many ways quite a commendable Bond film marred by a fair amount of flaws, some of which are mere distractions while others regrettably undermine the film’s ambitions. The film seems to aspire for a greater deal of drama than it manages to successfully convey and feels a touch pretentious on occasion. Still, I appreciate the production team’s ambition to try something different even if I do not think it was pulled off in a particularly able fashion.

Favourite Bond film: Casino Royale

Best Bond film (if different to your fave): On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Least favourite Bond film: A View to a Kill

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 3

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 1

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Not better, worse or same - different.

Most memorable moment: The death of Mathis.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: Reunion and plane ride with Mathis, arrival in Bolivia et cetera - when it, emotionally, kicked off for me, that is.

Which part of the film interested you least?: The Port-au-Prince bits.

What surprised you most about the film?: Despite knowing that Forster was on board, the little artistic touches (the editing of the opera sequence, the use of sound in same sequence, the graphics of the title cards). And the scene in which Bond and Camille see the farmers use up their last drop of water - Bond witnessing the direct effect of a villain's plan on the population is, I think, a first.

Most amusing scene in the film: Talamone reunion with Mathis.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: As above.

The film's biggest strengths: Great acting by Craig, Dench, Wright and Giannini especially. Classic pre-title sequence, surprising in its ballsiness. Excellent location work. Good production design. Interesting graphics.

The film's greatest flaws: Rushed narration aligns us with Bond's experiences, but ultimately leaves one drained. Not really sure if that's a flaw though. Uninspired musical score. Some glaring implausiblities that we do notice despite the film's frantic sweep. Some gratuitous action scenes (the boat chase). The real conflict with M climaxes almost before it begins.

Additional comments: QoS is a bit like The Big Sleep, in its deliberately murky plotting. It's never just generic; it fascinates rather than conventionally entertains. Marc Forster is unrelenting in the goals he has set for this film - he takes it all the way without worrying too much whether it's still 'Bond'. He seems less sure about the humour. The film is not as dear to me as the early Bond movies, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale, but it does have some amazing firsts.

Best Bond film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Least favourite Bond film: Octopussy
QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4.5/5
How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: Three times
Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Exceeded expectations.
Most memorable moment: The Opera sequence.
Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The Opera sequence, the Siena bits, Bond’s escape from the hotel and the final scene.
Which part of the film interested you least?: The dogfight.
What surprised you most about the film?: The style, I was expecting it to be visually stylish but it has a really cool editing style as well.
Most amusing scene in the film: There isn’t much to a muse. I LOL at one bit every time, but can’t remember which…
Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Drunk in first class.
The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig.
The film's greatest flaws: Over use of Vesper’s name. Either you get this from the first conversation, or you don’t. I felt they over emphasized the Vesper angle a bit too much. Also the line uttered as Bond jumps on the bonnet. Badly delivered but also just a bad idea in the first place.
Additional comments: Clearly I loved this film, but I understand that some may hate it. Some call it marmite; I’d say it’s more like a nice, runny camembert – too strong for some but ultimately an acquired taste. Bite into it, somehow (despite the smell) expecting your normal mild gouda and you’re in for a shock. But give it it’s time and perhaps you’ll learn to love it.

Best Bond film: Casino Royale
Least favourite Bond film: The Man with the Golden Gun (or Never Say Never Again, if we're counting that)
Quantum of Solace rating out of 5: 4
How many times have you seen Quantum of Solace?: Just once so far
Was Quantum of Solace better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: About what I expected based on reviews, but worse than what I'd hoped
Most memorable moment: The Tosca sequence
Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The Tosca sequence
Which part of the film interested you least?: The opening titles and title song
What surprised you most about the film?: Its artistic, stylistic direction
Most amusing scene in the film: Bond and Mathis sparring after Fields snubs Mathis
Most "Fleming" bit in the film: The character of Camille and her motivations
The film's biggest strengths: Exceptional performances from all involved; stylish direction at times; dark, often murky, themes throughout
The film's greatest flaws: At times, jarring direction during action scenes; awful title song and forgettable title sequence; frantic pacing - the film needed space to breathe; Minority Report-esque MI6 headquarters
Additional comments: There's so much right with Quantum of Solace, but it doesn't come together like it should. I suspect it will improve with time, but it will never surpass Casino Royale in my eyes

Forgive me for tagging along just after your post Tarl! :( Everyone, don't miss Tarl's post just above. :)

Favourite Bond film: Casino Royale. QOS isn't far behind at the moment.

Best Bond film (if different to your fave - you may, of course, cite QUANTUM OF SOLACE): Not different to my fave. :)

Least favourite Bond film: The World is not Enough

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 5

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: 3

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about
the same as you expected?: Better. That will be a film in which I find new things with each viewing for a long time.

Most memorable moment: Bond sees Greene, Greene sees Bond, the music rises, Greene nods, Bond walks off, the chase is underway.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: The opera sequence, followed by the Yusef scene.

Which part of the film interested you least?: The boat chase. Would interest me more if the climactic end was a bit clearer. I keep hoping *one* more viewing will explain it all. ;)

What surprised you most about the film?: How long it seemed despite the short running time. I mean that as a compliment. It was an exhausting ride.

Most amusing scene in the film: Elvis gets his pants blown off in death. LMAO!

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: The way Bond finally deals with Greene, followed closely by how he butts in on Quantum's meeting. Very "early Fleming Bond," throwing his weight around like that.

The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig, the major supporting cast, brilliant visuals, Elvis the anti-henchman, the treatment of Bond as a three-dimensional person.

The film's greatest flaws: Lack of clarity in details during a couple of action sequences (end of the boat chase for sure)

Additional comments: I fully expect to notice and appreciate more and more with each viewing of QOS. I have so far, and there's lots to go. I'll be looking forward to having the film at home so that I can catch *every* word of dialogue, examine every quick shot and savor the rich cinematography even more.

Favourite Bond film: Licence To Kill

Best Bond film: From Russia With Love

Least favourite Bond film: Dr. No

QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 3.5

How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: Twice

Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: Worse. It was certainly more disappointing.

Most memorable moment: When Bond shoots Mitchell.

Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: For action probably the PTS, otherwise Bond spying on Quantum at the opera.

Which part of the film interested you least?: The killing of Mathis.

What surprised you most about the film?: How short the car chase was. From what I'd heard beforehand, I was expecting something that could possibly rival Bullitt, The French Connection, and Ronin, but because of the editing and the shortness of the chase (due to the accidents during filming?), it didn't happen.

Most amusing scene in the film: When Bond strolls into the Andean Hotel and says that he, Fields, and Mathis are teachers on sabbatical who have just won the lottery.

Most "Fleming" bit in the film: Probably the Camille character who is the classic bird with a wing down.

The film's biggest strengths: The acting, most notably by Craig and Dench, the concluding scenes in Russia, and the music.

The film's greatest flaws: Putting the gunbarrel at the end; the tight cropping, shaky cam, and super-quick editing--particularly in the action scenes; a totally inadequate, uninteresting, and unthreatening henchman in Elvis; the killing of Mathis and compounding it by throwing him in the dumpster for no good reason; and no "Bond, James Bond" line.

Favourite Bond film: "Casino Royale" (with "Quantum of Solace" in hot pursuit)
Best Bond film: same as above
Least favourite Bond film: "Diamonds Are Forever"
QUANTUM OF SOLACE rating out of 5: 4.5
How many times have you seen QUANTUM OF SOLACE?: three (and counting)
Was QUANTUM OF SOLACE better than you expected, worse than you expected, or about the same as you expected?: I was careful to avoid spoilers and try not to pump up my expectations, given how much I love "Casino Royale"; I didn't want to feel disappointed simply due to unrealistic expectations. After first viewing, I felt a bit let down; too much flew by too fast for me to take it all in. Second and third viewings have been far more satisfying, and as with "Casino Royale," I find something new each time. So I've gone from having a sort of "meh" attitude to absolute delight with how "Quantum of Solace" turned out.
Most memorable moment: tie between Mathis's death and Corinne's face as Bond explains who Yusef really is
Which part of the film did you enjoy most?: the opera scene
Which part of the film interested you least?: none; they all held my interest
What surprised you most about the film?: how confusing it seemed on first viewing, and then how it all came together for me the second time around
Most amusing scene in the film: when Bond says he, Mathis and Fields are teachers on sabbatical who just won the lottery, M asking Bond if he could avoid killing every possible lead, and Leiter telling Bond to get moving
Most "Fleming" bit in the film: when Bond comforts Camille in the burning hotel room, when he leaves Greene out in the desert with nothing to drink but a can of oil, and when he confronts Yusef
The film's biggest strengths: Daniel Craig and Judi Dench
The film's greatest flaws: editing in some of the action scenes is a little too "breakneck pace" for my tastes
Additional comments: "Quantum of Solace" is a complex film that probably won't satisfy everyone on first viewing because, as I discovered, there is so much to take in. So my initial discontent with the film has been replaced, in subsequent viewings, by an even greater appreciation of what this film achieves. After one viewing, I felt this film was merely adequate as a follow-up to "Casino Royale." Now I consider the two films to be essentially one story told in two acts. And I love them both almost equally.

A drunken Bond was a first for the series

Nope, he is certainly drunk in the Hamburg hotel in Tomorrow Never Dies when drinking neat vodka.

I didn't really think that Bond was drunk in Tomorrow Never Dies, he doesn't sound it and he's walking in a perfectly straight line. :(

I wouldn't even say he was tipsy.

Awwww, I love that one (of course, there are probably people who love "Diamonds Are Forever").
