"As for his future as 007, Craig hinted that the longstanding Q and Miss Moneypenny characters may finally show up once again. ‘I think we can introduce Moneypenny and Q back into their roles. We have got to offer them to the best actors possible.’"

Regarding this quote from Craig I think its %99 that we will have Q and Moneypenny in Bond 23. I think like introducing James Bond it will be wise for the producers to introduce Q and Moneypenny.

But who are they going to be ?

I'd choose two of the stars of THE OFFICE:

Mackenzie Crook as Q.

Stacey Roca as Moneypenny. Roca played Rachel, the vivacious blonde who has a brief romance with Tim (Martin Freeman). She can be sexy and funny, is yer typical English Rose™, and if those things weren't enough she's also apparently a member of the British Shakespeare Company, which means she's one hell of an ac-tor. If she isn't cast as Moneypenny I'll boycott BOND 23!

Well now, is it mere ignorance or already a major case of blasphemy on my part, but for the hell of it, I don't care if they ever come back. I didn't miss them and I doubt I ever will. They just aren't necessary in my view. If they really do have to come back, I'd prefer them as serious characters and with as little as possible cheesy moments. Otherwise, better leave them where they are right now.

There is a better chance both or one of them will make an appearance for Bond 23, sure. But given what has gone before, I wouldn't be making definitive statements like this thread title does.

Nothing is set in stone.

But I'll be interested to see how their done. I'm not keen on seeing the characters again, but Craig seems adamant that they take the smart approach - allow the actors to reinterpret the characters. As long as they feel as fresh and interesting as Wright's Leiter, I'm sold.

What would be interesting is if they really established Moneypenny and Bond's relationship by presenting the backstory that Lois Maxwell and Sean Connery had for the characters (that at one point, they'd had a fling). That would frame their relationship in a new, and if done right, potentially poignant way. I'd love to see a bit of Bond having to deal with that awkward tension.

I am quite happy to have them back.
They don't have to be in every film however, especially Q Branch.
They could have the characters in for Bond 23, then take a break for Bond 24 and 25, and have another appearance in Bond 26. No biggie. They have had them absent for 2 films now, so there is no need to have them in every film. Moneypenny could even appear, but just be seen in the background or be summoned by M and just say Yes, and walk into M's room and thats it.
Agree though the casting choice has to be good. Especially if they are stayers. I don't want a Moneypenny actress in Just 2 films or whatever.

Where exactly did they hint at that backstory, Harms? I don't remember that (but that's probably just me).

And I'm all for the characters making an appearance, though I honestly don't want to see them in every outing henceforth. That's grown very, very tired, and they didn't appear in every book, so why must anything be different in the films? As for the characterizations, Moneypenny needs to be much more subtle. The "desirable Miss Moneypenny" doesn't need to try to seduce Bond. As for Q, I'd love to see him not be so "frustrated uncle". Desmond hit a perfect balance in FRWL, so I'm content to see Q remain a professional weapons expert.

Still, Loomis, I do love Mackenzie Crook. :(

I think Peter Davison would make a good Q. I know it's partially due to the fact that he's one of my favourite Doctor Whos, but still... :(

It's not just we are going to have them back. Its "the first introducing" of the characters. They introduced "the line", the gunbarell and now Q and Moneypenny. Back to the old good days :(

It's not in the films, but Maxwell has reiterated in interviews that that was the background Connery and she imagined for the characters and played it accordingly.

The news DOES NOT warm my heart. Quite frankly, I don't miss them. Once EON Productions re-introduce the traditional crap, we'll see a real decline in the franchise again. But I suppose this will make the public happy.

Why is it that people cannot deal with changes or something new? Geez.

Well the truth is they cant go on with either CR or QOS films. He has to change. Perosnal stuff has to end.

However I am with the idea that more serious films have to be done. I mean no more MR or DAD but DN, FRWL, GF...

Were they really that good though? Old is a good term for it though, you've got those characters in nearly 20 films (yes I know Q was absent from one of em), why can't we just go on like we are now? I want the "new" days, not the "old" ones.

This Craig fella knows what he's talking about. :(

Q might take a bit longer, but I'm sure Moneypenny will be in the next film.

Anyway, Roger Allam for Q and Elize du Toit for Moneypenny.

Whatever happened to Samantha Bond? Is She not coming back?
To Be Honest I didnt like her moneypenny, however in all respect she is a verry talented actress.
My favourite was Louis Maxwell, I'd like to see a new moneypenny based on her performances :(

I'd rather have moneypenny back than Q and to be honest, even if they were brought back, if they were reimagined to be more serious characters, critics and fans will still complain. Personally, I like my Q the way he was in Dr.No and in FRWL and with regards to moneypenny, I'd like to see Bond playfully try to make advances towards her and it is she who playfully brushes him off. As long as the slight sexual tension is there and the chemistry is good, it's fine wih me.

Well yes they were good. If we had CR or QOS its because we had the other 20. Also as Craig stated he loves to have the "classic touch" back. There is no way that they can go with CR forever. The personal stuff is over. Back to mission and back to all the classics.

I am sure that Craig wants to "reinvent" all the characters and other 007 images. He wants them all be his.

I love Moneypenny and I look forward to her coming back into the films. I can wait for Q, and in fact, if he doesn't reappear during the Craig Era I'd be okay with it.

As for the casting of Moneypenny, I have this love affair with Christina Hendricks of Mad Men. I’d love to see her step into those shoes.

I'm not overthusiastic about the return of Q to be honest, unless the actor is spot on. Desmond Llewellyn was Q and I think it should be left at that.
No disrespect to John Cleese, but I would positively vomit if we have a resurrection of the style of embarrassing buffoonery that was the R/Q character accorded to us in TWINE and DAD. If P&W are writing the script IMO it could spell disaster.......

Generally agreed, however, I would like to see Q back, but more serious. I liked his bit in FRWL, GF and TSWLM especially.

That would be brilliant, awkward tension transforming itself into witty dialogue that actually just supports the tension. Things unsaid, things said but not meant. Doubt and, above all, loads of forced rationalization. Love that idea Harms :(

And what would Major Boothroyd say anout the two astons Bond turned into junkyard items? That would also be interesting to see and it would serve as a bridge between the two films that preceeded Bond23.

And why not introducing Albert Finney as Sir James Moloney, with the cigar and the Churchill look?

Brave new world ahead of us all :)

I love Hendricks, easily one of the sexiest women alive and hat red hair of hers (which isn't her natural colour btw) is a huge turn on. She was my ideal choice to play MJ in the spidey movies. Anyway, I can't see her as moneypenny, one, hendricks is too damn sexy and two, she's american. However, she's definitely Bond girl material though.

I've got Moneypenny reimagined as being played by an afro-caribbean actress in one of my film outlines for the Craig Era. She's a bit frosty to Bond when she meets him, he flirts with her but she thinks that flirting with one of the grunts is below her althought she clearly likes the attention he gives her.

Mark my words,

Given where this franchise is going, if the characters of Q and Moneypenny appear In the new Greengrass Bourne 4, you'll definitely see them in Bond 23. :( Same with a gunbarrell in it's correct place.

Q the actor who put the tracking device in bond in Casino Royale

Moneypenny the brunette who was in the "Bond's been Poisoned Scene"

Oooh!!!

I cannot remember the actors off the top of my head, but would love to hear what others think of this suggestion. :) Sounds highly inspired AND logical! I would be impressed if indeed this was the gameplan all along...

God, I hope not. Q always made Bond redundant by knowing exactly what Bond would need for his assignment - it's a wonder MI6 just didn't bother with Bond and instead went straight to Q and asked him what was happening - while there's not a single Moneypenny scene that you couldn't cut without it negatively affecting the plot.
