Well, I'll be devouring this latest installment this afternoon.

If you keep an eye out, chapter nine - One Last Sin Before I'm Dead - will be online, too; I'm halfway through it right now, featuring more bad- Bond.

Chapter 8

Bond and Fran arrive in Varna and proceed to flirt, which is quite charming and I can picture Craig's dry tones speaking the lines exactly. The sequence in the Necropolis is suitably atmospheric and would be brilliant on the big-screen. Fran's dead, but the question remains about who shot her - and part of me thinks the culprit could be Bond.

She's not dead, just dying. She gets saved in time, but she wants nothing to do with Bond anymore, which was very deliverate and something I've been planning from the start; I can't remember the last time a Bond Girl demanded Bond leave her alone altogether. I never considered the possibility that Bond shot her, though ...

Chapter 9

The terrific action sequence in the necropolis continues to be very atmospheric. Fran isn't dead - but she's gone from the story for the moment, choosing to walk out of Bond's life. Shame, I was convinced the scene in the lift in the last chapter ("No, don't go looking for them; we're the only ones in the elevator") suggested Fran was working for the Camorra.

Sorry to disappoint on that count, but I really wanted to explore how Bond would react if someone didn't want to be around him anymore because of what he was.

Okay, just so you guys know, I have another assignment due this week - it's that time of year - and exams in three weeks. Hopefully I can finish it off between my assignment and exams (I'll write when I'm taking a break from work), but a this point in time, anything could happen. I estimated there would be nine chapters left, one of which would be in the necropolis, but then realised it was better it break it into two and cut the scene where Bond met Gonchareno, instead skiping straight to Mondadori in the lighthouse, which will be the next post.

No, ti's alright. Hell, I do it all the time; we were doing review questions as exam preparation a few days ago and I completely missed two words in the question, completely changing the meaning of it ... but I'm glad you like the story so far. Hopefully when I finish this one, I'll have more in store. Currently experimenting with a few ideas, including Bond vs. an alien conspiracy, Bond vs. a villain who may not actually be doing something "wrong", and exploring the question of what would have happened if Bond had not been born into an English family, but into a Soviet one instead ...
