I was wondering how many of you would be up for a more festive James Bond movie, set around Christmas time? I loved how festive On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was, I really would like a more Christmas oriented Bond movie in the future.

I had a really wiered dream last night, which included a massive house. It was snowing outside and there was a knock on the door, Bond opened it stood with Vesper, and Mathis entered, shaking Bonds hand and kissing Vesper on the cheek. He followed them both into the lounge and he sat down and Bond took his coat. Thats all I could remember but I seem to remember there was christmas carols playing in the background. I woke up and thought to myself that would be a brilliant opener to Quantum of Solace if Vesper didn't die.

I know it's strange but I would like to see this in a future Bond movie. If not Mathis then maybe Leiter visiting and Bond spending Christmas with a lady. Something along those lines. But yeah, I love Christmas movies, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service obviously being a favorite.

Would anyone else like another Christmas Bond movie?

I think the usual November release dates really limit us in this regard. For example, I'd love to see a Bond film set in China during the Chinese New Year, but that takes place in February (late January at the earliest) and although we could suspend disbelief I'd prefer the movie came out a little closer to the real deal. :(

No christmas stuff in a Bond movie.Period. That means having kids and all that stuff plague the movie with their happy, christmas, goodwill, gleeful nonsense ruin the seriousness of the story at hand.

If anyone wants festive season, I strongly recomend watching die hard 1 and 2, although die hard 1 is the infinitely better movie.

If you want something festive at Christmas, there's only one route to go:

Lethal Weapon. Family, Suicidal cops, drug running "Shadow Company" operatives and Gary Busey.

Win, win, win, win! :(

I wouldn't mind it I also think a halloween (season not horror film) bond film would be kinda cool.

I love OHMSS and watch every year to kick off the christmas season.

while it would be interesting I wnat it to seem organic not "let's do a christmas themed bond film"

I watch OHMSS every Christmas (and usually read it). I don't know if we need another Christmas Bond movie but something set on or around New Year's Eve could be really neat.

[joke] Call it 007 in New York and make it real time starting at 10:00 P.M. New Year's Eve. [/joke]

I wouldn't mind seeing a Bond film like that. I liked the atmosphere that OHMSS achieves through its winter setting, and I think that it would be great to see a festive setting again for a Bond film.

The bad thing about On Her Majesty's Secret Service is that when you watch it between January and November, "Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?" gets kinda annoying. :(

My festive movie of choice is Home Alone (1990).

I know that you said you're joking, but I think that that could potentially be the foundation for, at the very least, an interesting and different Bond film.

It could work. I like that Casino Royale and by the looks of it, Quantum of Solace have provided us with a break from the snow that seemed to just be inseparable from Bond for a while.

If done right, with the season festivities merely accenting and moving along the plot (as done successfully in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), then I don't think I'd have any objections.

Agreed. I think that such a film would be great for Craig's last film. I love the tone of OHMSS, and I think that a film in that style would be great as a final film of the Craig Era before handing the reigns over to Bond #7.

I want to see Bond go Christmas shopping in Harrods. He can bump into some criminal mastermind and chase him through the streets of London. They can bump into some kids singing Christmas carols and a Santa Claus collecting money for some charity.

Yeah, I've realised that it should only be watched at Christmas every year. Gives us all yet another thing to look forward to in December.

My Christmas movie is the animated classic, The Snowman (1982)

I actually think the best Bond movie in this regard was Thunderball, which featured Nassau's Boxing Day/New Year's Day Junkanoo festival. Bond, having just escaped his captors, is staggering, injured, through the crowd, looking legitimately panicked, ducking into a random bar and desperately trying to blend in, only to abruptly find Fiona Volpe standing there. The festive setting, with the carnival music playing in the background throughout, really heightened the tension in those scenes. It's a part of the movie that frequently goes unnoticed, but I think it was one of the best parts and even some of Connery's finest moments as Bond.

I'm with Double 0 Ego on this: No Way!

I don't mind having Bond rummaging around in the snow or getting involved in Chinese New Year - like having firecrackers blasted at him, but please no Christmas movie.
Just having rebooted Bond with a tough guy like Daniel Craig, having Christmas in it would be the completely wrong way to go.

I agree. Could be like a Moore Bond, whereby Bond is chasing after Macy's Santa Claus. A fight ensues with Bond eventually throwing him off the 'Woolworth's' building. He could end with the quip "merry ex mass". :(

No. OHMSS has the market cornered on Xmas Bond films, so why mess with perfection?

I am not sure how you would do a Christmas-themed Bond film without making it seem gimmicky or with really any other holiday for that matter, other than as others have said like Chinese New Year or Boxing Day or some local tradition.

And the Die Hard film are always set on a particular holiday. Regardless of what you think of the individul entires, the first two were on Christmas Eve and the fourth installment on the Forth of July weekend (though Vengeance wasn't on any particular day, though).

Something I loved about the first two Die Hard films was there Christmas theme. :)

Some of the early Bond films have been released around Christmas, and they have only taken the chance to tie-in to that with On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. On and the Diamonds Are Forever teaser with Bond walking along a Christmas decoration with presents then doing the gunbarrel. :(

A Cosby sweater, that's what.

OHMSS uses Chrismas very wisely.

However, I could imagine another Bond film taking place on Christmas. How about an attack that is supposed to happen on that day and Bond has to prevent it. Rushing through the festive city, being chased by the bad guys through the holiday decorations, dressing up as Santa Claus in order to escape them...

... wait a minute. "Octopussy" just got the better of me.

The problem with a Christmas set film is that they don't play well for the rest of the year. Imagine watching a film all about Christmas in the first week of January. These things are best left timeless.

Not all Christmas set films only play well at that time of year. Gremlins and Die Hard are good examples of festive films which play well any time of year, and indeed were originally released during the summer.

Christmas also gets a mention in Diamonds are Forever, when Q tells Bond he invented the speech changer gadget for his kids for Christmas.

There is also a mention in Moonraker, when Bond tells Q he should get the dart wristwatch in the stores for Christmas.

In TWINE, there is a character called Christmas, and also she and Bond appear to be spending Christmas in Istanbul at the end of the movie.
