I've got four UK paperbacks (SF, BF, DOD and HG) and two international editions (HG and BRC) - which I use mainly just as stand ins until I get the UK paperback editions. That's enough for me.

Check out my HG gallery, Qwertz. There's a HG proof with a cover band that matches the final hardcover, and one that is different. I won't know much more about it until I get it.

I got this second proof and it is indeed different. The cover, as I said above, is an earlier design. This proof also has more text on each page so it's shorter overall. It's a little more finished than the other proof as far as chapters headings and page numbers go. Very interesting find. :(

I did see a set of three signed YBs (the sticker said signed anway) in a branch of Waterstones on the weekend with £10 off. I think it was about £20.

Mark, did this set have a slipcase? Does anyone know if this was the same as the set that appeared in Borders earlier this year?

Yes, it had a slipcase. I think they were paperbacks, I didn't really look too closely at them to be honest.

In Waterstone's? Weird. I thought they were a Borders exclusive.

Very cool (forgot to comment about this earlier)!

Yet another rarity to keep an eye out for.

This set?

These came as a total surprise to me. Very nice set. I'm hoping we'll see more collections with the release of BRC in paperback.

You're quite right; it was Borders in Kingston. One bookshop's much like another to me!

In fun to go into the stores and eyeball all the current YB books on the shelf to see how they've changed with subsequent printings. These kinds of changes you can only know with on the ground intel. :(

When I was in the UK last May, I did this and was surprised to see later editions had revamped the covers and enlarged Charlie's name. Also, later editions have different ads on the inside flaps and sometimes different extracts in the back. I hear HG's later editions have the BRC blub as permanent part of the cover art now (instead of a sticker). I'm hoping at some point there will be an HG that drops the gold sheen and is just yellow like the large print.

This is a far less rewarding exercise here in the U.S., but I still do it. I did discover that later printing of SilverFin contained an extract for Blood Fever, which the first did not (and later printings are a little smaller).

This is correct.

I know what you mean - I often wander into a bookstore and check out the Bond books for precisely that reason. I have no real intention of re-buying them, but it is neat to see new ways of marketing the series (the enlargement of Charlie's name is well-deserved).
