That hardback cover is great. If I didn't know it was Bond I'd think somebody was trying to be James Dean.

Why would they use a CR shot? The U.S. seems to get the lesser of the picks sometimes. Oh, who am I kidding, I will probably get both.

I agree, the US cover looks cheap compared to the stylish British one. Why on earth would they use a pic from Casino Royale??? But whatever the cover, I'm getting it too! :(

I prefer the UK cover greatly, because it is a picture of what the book suggests, Bond on set.

I completely agree. Why use a Casino Royale shot anyway? :(

I really do preffer the hardback.

How the heck am i supposed to put that paperback with the CR picture with my nice CR hardback On Set book? Looks like I'll be buying the UK one.

I'm wondering if that US paperback will be the final cover. With both the DAD and CR "Bond on Set" books, Amazon showed only prototype covers. Doesn't make a lot of sense that they'd use an image from CR, nor not use a photograph for a book of photography. It wouldn't surprise me if the UK cover is also the US cover.

Good point.

What it also a bit odd is that the Amazon.com site had a completely different cover up a few days ago for this. I didn't report on it then because the image was really bleached out and almost impossible to see, but it included the following image of Craig as Bond on the cover:

Posted Image

And now it's gone.

It just occurred to me the image on the US Bond on Set is almost exactly the same as the cover for The James Bond Encyclopedia, also published by DK. Would a publisher really release two James Bond books only months apart with the same cover?

Sadly, it seems, books with words are not the requirement these days in the world of 007.

The last "making of" book (TWINE) was a real disappointment with very little insight into the actual filming process. I guess that's why they switched formats. The Bond on Set books show the filming process very well without having to resort to uninspired journalistic-style prose. I own all making of books for Bond movies and once you've read them, you only come back for the pics (except, that is, for Roger Moore's fascinating LALD diary). I almost never pick up TWINE A COMPANION from the shelf.

Speak for yourself. While I don't pick up the TWINE companion daily - the "making of " books from LTK-TWINE are good resources.

Sure the TWINE companion was a bit weak, but that doesn't mean you should throw in the towel and say "Eh, just give me photos." You honestly would rather have that then something that delves into the film making process, interviews the principals, shares their thoughts on what's important in a Bond film, gives biographical information, etc.?

Yes, an official making of will always be the sanitized version of how the film was made, but I'd rather have that then just a set of pictures.

In an ideal world we would have both. I wish they would bring back the fan magazines they put out for most of the Brosnan series from Starlog and Titan.

Ah, so there's the special edition once again.

$300 though? No thanks. I'll find it cheaper elsewhere.

I wouldn't pay a quarter of that price. For a limited edition novel, maybe, not likely. For a book of photographs on the making of a film? Never. If you got authentic cast autographs or something maybe, but not for just that.

And even so, it's a monumental mark-up. The list price (when this Collector's Edition was actually on Amazon.co.uk for a short while was £75.

Why so much excitement about a movie? I am sorry. I am new to this site and am a big James Bond fan. But with the world's financial institutions crumbling around us (a good plot for a future Bond novel) and most of us about to lose a fortune whether in funds, investments or savings, how can any grown-up be so focused on a Hollywood movie?
Emma

Worry not sweetpea.

People on this forum all divide their time equally between this and the worldsproblemsforum.org.

In fact I am popping over there right now.

A Bond film is a two-hour vacation for a lot of people from their problems in the world.

And some of our problems with the world have to do with something we dislike about a Bond film. :(

Love this cover. Looks more James Dean than James Bond*, admittedly, but very cool.

*Or perhaps Depeche Mode circa VIOLATOR.

Very interesting cover choice. Barbara is really shaking things up in the Bond universe. I´d say she taking control is the best thing that could happen to the franchise.

Erm...its a hobby, an interest, a way to pass the time? Not everyone cares to sit around and be depressed about life. I myself just got out of a three month depression after accidentally stumbling across TWINE on tv late at night.

:) :) ;) Three months? You were lucky. I have DAD inside some box somewhere with something on top so I can´t see the cover of it. One glimpse of that and I would never get out of bed.
Seriously, escapism is the way to go. Long live Bond...the anti - depressive miracle! :(
