I'll definitely be getting this one. I loved the Casino Royale 'On Set' book. It was simply gorgeous. I am a sucker for a really good photograph book!

Me too. But unfortunatelly I don't have the DAD Bond On Set one. :\

The last "making of" book (TWINE) was a real disappointment with very little insight into the actual filming process. I guess that's why they switched formats. The Bond on Set books show the filming process very well without having to resort to uninspired journalistic-style prose. I own all making of books for Bond movies and once you've read them, you only come back for the pics (except, that is, for Roger Moore's fascinating LALD diary). I almost never pick up TWINE A COMPANION from the shelf.

Speak for yourself. While I don't pick up the TWINE companion daily - the "making of " books from LTK-TWINE are good resources.

Sure the TWINE companion was a bit weak, but that doesn't mean you should throw in the towel and say "Eh, just give me photos." You honestly would rather have that then something that delves into the film making process, interviews the principals, shares their thoughts on what's important in a Bond film, gives biographical information, etc.?

Yes, an official making of will always be the sanitized version of how the film was made, but I'd rather have that then just a set of pictures.

Unless one's going to get exceptionally researched text (not likely), I find you can accomplish the same goal by pictures alone. Don't get me wrong, I have them all from LTK onwards. I'm one of those who don't cry "why didn't I buy this when it in print and cheap?" but after TWINE I really enjoyed the new format. For the record, I find the John Cork docummentaries REALLY bad as in made by amateur fans with no real talent as docummentarians. I'd rather have the full home movies with a running commentary. Film is a visual medium and I find the more I read about it, the less time I spent watching movies.
Now, there was once an exceptional making of book with hardly any pictures in it that's pure gold: Roger Moore's diary of Live and Let Die. I'd rather reread than that than being subject to rewatching the Weakest Bond of all!

I don't have that one either, but if it's as well done as the CR one, I'll have to find a copy.

Part of me says 'oh stop it with the collector's editions', but then if people want 'em, why not?

Yeah, there always seems to be that core group of collectors out there that dig these (myself included).

Have to admit that this particular book seems kind of an odd choice to be issued in a collector's edition considering it's merely a making-of movie book at the end of the day.

Will be interested to see some pics of it once they become available.

I'm usually in the camp that gets excited about 'special' or 'collectors' edition Bond related books, but so far I'm not too excited about this one. Maybe I just need more details or some pics... Time will tell...

I have just had a notification from amazon.co.uk that they have cancelled my order of Quantum of Solace Bond on Set, saying the book itself has been cancelled. Looking both on Amazon.com and amazon.co.uk I see it has disappeared. Anybody have a clue what has happened. And is this book no longer going to be published?

Is it possible that the premium priced collectors edition of this book has been canceled?

I think that appears to be the case. I bet this ends up really hard to get if it is published at all!

Not the regular edition, no. Perhaps this collector's edition will have a release date change or something else that warrented removing the current amazon listing.

Retail price is $22.00 and £25.00, respectively.

So making it in effect half price in the US...?

Thought this was a bit odd too, but then I noticed the UK edition is a hardback, while the US is a paperback. Can only guess the price difference has something to do with that.

The Bond On Set books are really great. I liked the photos from the CR book. Hope the QOS one will feature some pictures from Austria as well :(

Chapters has cover art, but it looks very Casino Royale, so it may just be prototype artwork.

I think it probably is just prototype. They wouldn't release a shot from Casino Royale to front their cover, would they?

I'm hoping it's just prototype art. For a book where photographs are the main focus, I'd like something different than the Casino Royale teaser poster for the cover.

The UK cover is shown over at MI6, suitably moody.

Strange how the paperback includes a shot from Casino Royale. :)

I like the look of the hardback though, very moody picture indeed. :(
