Like many fans, I've always wondered if George Lazenby, had he done more films, would have become a better Bond over time. Sure, it's just speculation, but just imagine what might have been! :D

So, now, without futher ado, coco1997 and I present to you:

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971)

It is the summer of 1971. George Lazenby, after some weeks of serious convincing and soul-searching, has fired his agent, and is now starring in his second Bond film. The new film, "Diamonds Are Forever", is sold as a direct follow-up to the series’ previous cliffhanging entry, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The film is helmed by returning director Peter Hunt, who imbues the film with energy similar to that seen in OHMSS. It stars George Lazenby as James Bond, Charlotte Rampling as Faye, Robert Rietty as Seraffimo Spang, Lewis Collins as Jack Spang, Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, Desmond Llewelyn as Q, Bernard Lee as M, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Glover as Wint and Gore, Roger Moore as 008, Ricardo Montalban as Francisco Scaramanga, and Ilse Steppat and Telly Savalas returning as Irma Bunt and Blofeld, respectively.

The gunbarrel opens up on a nighttime scene as a limousine drives past the camera. We cut to a distant figure, dressed in a trilby and business suit, walking out from the shadows. He lights himself a cigarette, and watches as a man comes out from a building to talk with someone inside the limo. As the man nods in reply to something unheard, the limo pulls away, and the figure drops his cigarette and walks forward; as he does so, we notice he is wearing a wedding band. The figure comes behind the man, Gebr

I was simply stating my opinion on why i dislike his draft of the film.
I thought he wanted feedback?

In my opinion, being happy with how DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER turned out is certainly not a reason within itself to dislike this particular script. I am also happy with the way that movie turned out, and I'm not going to decide whether I would or wouldn't have liked this idea better, as that's impossible to say. What I will say is that there are lots of interesting ideas here which fit the tone of movies perfectly. So, good job! :D

Excellent post and far better than the film we ended up with. Just ANY reference to the events of OHMSS would have changed DAF.

However, as a Fleming fan, I've always been surprised by the fans insistence to see a revenge-driven follow up to OHMSS. If you recall the Fleming follow-up, You Only Live Twice, revenge was the last thing on the mind of Bond. He was broken, and M was on the verge of firing him. It was only the intervention of Molony that gave Bond back some motivation in his career.

And even when Bond found Blofeld and Bunt, it was only by chance, and he kept the information to himself.

I think a revenge-driven sequel is what we automatically expect in the Hollywood world, but actually, I'd prefer to see a sequel more along the lines of what Fleming originally intended.A broken Bond returning to sanity.

I did thoroughly enjoy your alternate past, Mr. Blofeld. I have no doubt I would have very much enjoyed this film, and indeed, enjoyed it more than the DAF that we actually wound up with.

Lazenbyland, you make a compelling argument and indeed, I would like to see something like this. Sadly, we can't take this step yet with Bond22; but I would like to see back to back Bond films (that is, written and shot as one) that covered such a two-part storey arc.

Why, thanks again! I'm glad so many here wish George Lazenby had had a better chance at Bond. :P

Now, what of the cast list? Did you agree or disagree with my choices? Who would you have chosen? :D

I have two "complaints"-I think bringing Scaramanga into DAF is a waste of a good character. Better to be left for his own film. Second, not enamored of the idea of Roger playing 008 and getting killed off.

Actually, in TMWTGG (the novel), Scaramanga is mentioned as having been a hired gun for the Spangled Mob, so I thought it would be interesting to see how his time with the Mob parlays into his vengeance on Bond in TMWTGG (the movie).

As for Roger as 008, it's similar to Clive Owen as "Nigel Boswell 006" in The Pink Panther; the so-called "Anointed One" humoring audiences by appearing in bit parts as related characters. :D

Thank you very much! :D

Actually, you've got me wondering, now; is there any way to contact Robert McGinnis on this?

Oh and the PTS Kicked [censored]! :D, if this were a movie, it would probably be rated 'R'. :P

Why, thanks! I think they would have allowed this sort of thing under GP back then, however, considering the "guy-falls-into-processor-bloody-snow-comes-out" scene we got in OHMSS. :D

Did it give you any ideas for a new video? Suffice it to say, I'm a big fan. B)
