Well the battle of the reboots has a winner :

BATMAN BEGINS total worldwide gross : 371.9 million
CASINO ROYALE worldwide gross after just four weeks : 376.2 million

http://www.boxoffice.../alltime/world/

Awesome. :)

And after looking at some figures on Box Office Mojo, it seems CR will likely pass DAD by week's end in the running tally, at least unadjusted, if present trends continue. If only you-know-who was even bothering to touch these inconvenient numbers, I'd love to hear her spout rhetoric about ticket price inflation and whatnot. :P

Hmmm well DAD is probably another 2 weekends away, but yeah it will happen. This weekend CR will pass MI3 (which like Bond, made 2/3 of its money outside the USA), and Superman Returns. And yes all these pesky record-breaking numbers are really showing what a successful boycott its been :P
Its a near-certainty now that CR will see higher admissions than all four of the Brosnan films. Wouldn't that be embarrassing for you-know-who?

Heh, I meant compared to how much DAD had made by this same point during its domestic run. By the end of its fifth weekend, it was at $138.5 million, which CR could very well match, seeing as the gap has been narrowed to less than $2.8 million from an initial $6.2 million. But now that I look at it again, I think you're right anyway. :P

Anyway, sorry for the confusion. :)

I remember when alot of us were just hoping it would do relatively the same business as the Brosnan Bond films.

But this... :)

And I thought I was being wildly optimistic with my $150 million US and $350 million international predictions. :)

Casino Royale passed 390 million worldwide.

http://www.variety.c...7...yid=13&cs=1

It should hit 400 by the end of the weekend (or it'll be very close).

dinovelvet, do you really thing CR will have more admissions? I certainly think it will make more money, but not sure it is selling more tickets.

More admissions than the Brosnan movies? Yeah I think its on course to. Christmas and New Year should see some good solid box office business, we should know in the first week of Jan whether its going to happen or not. Numbers for DAD were still being calculated well into February, so there's still quite a way to go yet.

I doubt that boycott had much of a negative effect on the film. On the contrary, it perhaps raised even more awareness for it.

Well I think napier was being sarcastic - there has obviously been no boycott whatsoever, in fact it is likely to make more money than all four Brosnan films, which would be rather embarrassing for "them", wouldn't it.

They certainly seemed "assured" early on the boycott would be a success.

CR collected another 35.6 mil overseas this weekend, bringing its total to 266.6, plus the US current total of 137.5 = 404.1 million. This puts it past MI3 and Superman Returns to be the 6th highest grossing movie (worldwide) of the year.

Just another $28 million or so to beat DAD's $432 total, which it should do by Jan 1.

@dinovelvet

i cant seem to add up those figures. Boxofficeguru.com had the overseas tally at 258m on the 13th of December with a worldwide total of 389 on the same date. Also the figures in the variety report are alarmingly like last weekend's numbers.

Not sure they have compiled an accurate report there. I would have estimated CR to have taken in around 25m this weekend bringing its overseas total just past DAD.

Really? Hmm, I guess we should wait and see what boxofficemojo has to say, they are usually the most accurate.

I'm rather perplexed by this line though: "Pic is $55 million short of setting the franchise's record, but has surpassed 2002's 'Die Another Day.'" ... ? Not sure where the 55m they're talking about is coming from. Are they talking UK? I don't know. I wish at had specific stats for the UK for the previous 20 films. :)

Well, having looked at the article again, those are last weeks numbers (i knew 35.6 looked familiar..)so Variety must have messed up its updates on the website. You can see that from the 5th paragraph where it says that the total cume after 4 weeks (its 5 now) is 266.6, which actually is last weeks figure.
Plus there is no mention of Eragon which debuted worldwide this weekend.. waiting for a confirmation and will post the new figures

I see what you're saying. Last week IIRC it was at about 245-246 for overseas gross. We'll have to see what BOM says tomorrow. So if it really hit 35.6 then it would be more like 280 meaning a ww gross of about 417.

I'm actually confused. About midweek they said it was about 258 as you stated.. now Hollywood reporter is saying 21 million more..to get up to 417. I wonder if it was 35.6 for the week and 21 million since the 13th when Variety reported the 390 million number. Confusing..

Variety says 418 now.

With four major movies released this week, each taking 2k-3k screens, CR is on the chopping block as far as theatres go, its losing 849 theatres (which still isn't as bad as the losses Deja Vu, Unaccompanied Minors, and Deck the halls are getting), leaving it at 1588 venues, so it will no doubt be parting company with the top ten this weekend, unless perhaps everyone goes crazy for Bond on Christmas day!
On Thursday, CR hits $140 million in the US; By comparison, DAD had $142, and still had 1875 theatres over its Christmas weekend, with only had one new wide release to compete with (Catch me if you can), whereas CR is up against newcomers Rocky Balboa, Night at the museum, The Good shepherd, and We are Marshall (whose bright idea was it to put another feelgood sports drama up against BALBOA?). So DAD had a bit of an advantage as there was more theater space available, it remains to be seen whether or not CR can nudge past it, I think by Jan 2nd we'll know for sure.

I'll be doing my patriotic duty and seeing CR for the 2nd time tomorrow and i am taking my brother and a friend along.

And i also plan on seeing it a 3rd time too with a different friend.

I bet that Brozza will secretly be hoping that this isn't going to happen. Let's prove him wrong!

I really want CR to beat DAD!

Finally knocked off it's NUMBER 1 position in it's fifth week after being in top spot for 4 straight weekends in Canada to land at number 3 for the week.

Here:

http://www.tribute.c.../box_office.htm

Canada's $18.5 million accounts for about 12 percent of "US Box Office" thus far putting Canada as the 5th top country for Casino Royale after the US itself, the amazing UK and the traditional strong hold of Germany followed by France.

If it does nudge past it, it will be because of Canadians who kept it Number One for 4 weeks and not Americans who kept Happy Feet Number One for the first 3 weeks.
